Thank you Maldo......finally ! Something that actually works removing paint and deck stain. After I spent $ 1500.00 on dumb liquid stain remover, including all the top brands, hiring professional deck cleaners I smartened up and went to You Tube for more information. Diamabrush did the job in 2 days. It cost 60.00 and a sander 40.00 at Lowes. Amazing !

I've used both. And both work great. The Diamond wheel can be "very" abrasive. Lightly glide it across the decking to prevent swirls. I use them to remove peeling and flaking stain. With a good restraining job it can look brand new again.

Do you recommend taking off all stain on board, or just smooth flaking area and touch up stain? Have water based that flaked in some areas

My Son and I were strolling through our local Lowes and we happened upon a display of these. There was a sign attached to the display with a price of $7.95. Having just bought one a few weeks earlier he knew the actual price was $ 57.95. We grabbed three apiece and proceeded to the checkout. Upon ringing everything up the price came close to $400 including other items purchased. Playing dumb Im Like WOE! Explaining the signage that said $7.95 she went and looked and it was there. She honored the price and we got 3 apiece for less than $30.00 each. I don't feel so bad for them when a 2x4 costs $12.00!

Great vid! Thank you. Ive got a very similar set up. My deck is 9 yrs old but looks like a 30 yr old deck in some spots. The builders used the same type of paint (im the 2nd owner) and the rot in some spots is unbelievable. Its like the paint traps all the moisture and creates pockets of decay. Again thank you for the info
@maldo72
@maldo72 3 жыл бұрын
yes that paint creates moisture pockets and rots the wood (the product does not soak into wood all it does is covers it and as the wood expanded and contracts it does not strech with the wood creating cracks and fails trapping water between the wood and paint .. i am not sure i it was not prepped correctly before application but i would never use this to paint deck ... and what a mess to get it off ... that's why i used the Diamabrush it save my ass in time and energy and saves me the hassle of renting a big machine for this project. $100 bucks for two disks well spent money...

I used one to strip a 12 x 7 varnished deck then used it to "grind" exterior sanded stucco-like paint from a concrete wall, about 3' high and 10 or so foot long. I still have it in my angle grinder bag with about 20% of the tooth left. I'll get one more small job out of it, someday. Great tool! Just don't expect a sanded floor finish from it.

Best product on the market! Paid $60.00 for the 4 1/2 in disk. I would have paid a $100.00! This disk is no B.S. Definitely need a respirator not dust mask, eye goggles not glasses and wouldn’t hurt to have a fan to blow all the dust away from you. I restored a painted deck and this saved me weeks of stripping off paint. I tried scraping and psi washing with a turbo nozzle not even close to what this tool will do!

I'm not a painter, rather handyman. Customer's house is a mansion cabin in the woods. She is a widow on a fixed income and can't afford a new deck, as I first suggested. I know her well enough after many years of working on broken things at her place, to know she prefers a cheaper solution than spending the money to replace things that need replacing. it's often a chore to explain things to her about doing it properly. I have learned that my way is not always what she wants. I have done tiling, doors, windows, and a slew of other fixes for her. This week I'm taking many layers of paint off the last section of an OLD deck this week. Completed large portion of deck last summer, finishing smaller deck this week. using 60grit flap discs. I was looking for other options, as the flap discs last about 15-30 minutes. I just saw, harbor freight has Warrior 60grit flap discs this week for $1.99/ea. I'll buy ten of those. YES, it's takes the wood off if I push too hard, but this deck must be 30 years old and has cupped areas, for areas that go 1/8" deep, and require grinding the wood down to get the old paint out. I cannot justify a $50 wheel that can't handle screws. and I will go back and pull old screws out and install hex screws after I take the paint off. I explained many options to the customer. she decided she likes the new look in the deck boards after grinding the paint off. Which has a distressed/worn/beat up look, NOT smooth. As a woodworker, we call it character. it gives the deck an old worn look, but reveals the fresh wood below the layers of paint and worn wood on top. and this deck is a GIANT wrap around deck. replacing would cost $25,000-$30,000. not an option for her. Giving the existing deck new life that will out last this customer's life. And someone else can replace the entire deck boards after she passes away. Last summer I used a deck sander first, cost $300. I ended up only using 20grit. b/c a majority of the deck boards were badly cupped after 30 years, it didn't do great. Took off about 50% of the paint. I hired a kid to help me bring w/ flap discs. Took a week. Sometimes it's not about the BEST way, but rather what makes sense for the customers based on their age and income. I can stain the deck every year for her for a few hundred dollars. it'll be fine for her until the next owner decides what they wanna do. It took me a few years to relax into allowing myself to do things for customers on the cheap. I don't always like it, and find it frustrating, but I end up with customers that wanna tell me how to do it cheaper, while also telling me it's acceptable for them, even though I strongly tell them I would never do it that way. I've had to learn to bend in this way. I think it's a good practice to be able to do what the customer wants rather than what I want.

i will have a up coming video on this question ... this disk is the same as 80 grit sand paper .... for i did not have to sand it any more after because i uses a solid color to re-do the deck after i sanded ... if you were doing transparent stain etc you could go over it again with 120 grit to make it perfect but again this is a old deck and the wood was not perfect wanted to hide some of the imperfections of the older pieces of deck board

I have used it and I really found it to be awesome. The issue I had is that the blades came out from the disc and one hit me in the chest and left a really significant bruise. The company said I was getting to close to the side of the disk and the plastic was wearing the plastic off. I asked why don't you make the disk of metal? and was told it is a dollar and cents issue. So I bought the vacuum guard and unfortunatley cant get as close to the edge as I would like. However it does take the paint off like I have never experienced.

Don’t sand with 120 grit. 120 is too fine and will not prepare the wood to the proper profile to accept the stain. Better off using Diablo 60 grit random orbital net style. It’s faster and will open up the wood much better for that stain to penetrate. 120 will compress the fiber. Great video showing the dimabrush though! It’s an awesome tool that saves a ton of time.

If you got it back to bare wood I’d probably use a semi trans oil for the floor. Would need maintenance pressure wash and reapply the semi trans every 2-3 years. But it’ll never peel. Can use same on railings or just use a solid stain color on railings like white which can look nice with stained floor. The solid stain on verticals last unlike on a horizontal floor

I used a buffer and a 7” pad with 60grit took it out fast best part is a buffer you can control the speed a grinder could get little dangerous! Not for me but a novice would hurt themself 200%

I would use this on a vertical surface or a smaller area. For a large area like this a drum sander would have made this a gravy job.

1, you should unplug the angle grinder before changing discs, if you value having all your fingers. 2, random orbital sanders with 60 grit paper is MUCH safer, much cheaper and works just as well. Run a hammer along the deck and sort out all the loose nails before you start sanding. A deck that size should take you less than a day. Oh, and get one of those dollar store yoga mats or knee pads for this kind of work.
@maldo72
@maldo72 3 жыл бұрын
I started out with 60 grit sandpaper and in theory yes using 60 grit would seem logical but with sand paper it wears out super fast and gets clogged with the thick paint used ... with this disk zero clogging/burning paint ..
@maldo72
@maldo72 3 жыл бұрын
yes used knee pads before I shot the video ... it was at the end of the day really tired and the knee pad straps were hurting the back of my leg that's why I took them off ... (I had cheap knee pads)

there were no nails used and the paint was so thick could not see some of the screws plus who ever put the screws in stripped the head making it hard to remove... used a sanding disk to file them down flush with board

I have immediate recent experience with this and 100% guarantee you that no random orbit (or detail sander) with 60 grit paper (or even 40 grit) works this well.

thank you for watching.. the reason why the first disk was worn down so much ... was because I was hitting a lot of screws that were popped up and covered by the thick layers of paint that i could not see... if you were just removing paint it should last a long time
