When backing up, you didn't account for backlash??

I’m not sure if you always have to account for backlash unless it is an already used insert. I believe, and I’m just a rookie so take what I say with a grain of salt, but I believe you can move in small amounts once an insert has been put on and the backlash has already been accounted for. I think you can decrease the diameter without the backlash if on the same insert wear you began with. Another note, I think a lot of people have trouble with backlash I am one of those so when people make videos like this it is important to show that because it’s so crucial and it’s a pain in the ass if you overshoot with the backlash.

This style of boring head in proper working order does not require backlash compensation. You are able to adjust size + or - to within .0001 as long as the boring head has not been damaged by not loosening the adjustment screw before adjustment.

Yes you should account for back lash by bringing it all the way back off then readjusting. You want to always be making your adjustments to make the hole BIGGER. So it should ALWAYS be clockwise. If you have to go counter clockwise you should be taking the backlash out. All the kieser heads I’ve used you MUST take out the backlash.
