Being able to see each of these 3 knots tied one after another in the same video really helps to simplify the tying of these knots.Thank you once again for another great video to increase my learning ability. I am always thrilled each time I go on KZbin and see that you have posted another video that will help me in the art of tying knots.

Glad if I can be of assistance. Would like to do videos more often, but work with ropes and knots takes most of my time.

I agree. It's fantastic to be able to watch a master patiently demonstrate these knots over and over as one's own clumsy attempts gradually come together. This is how young boys learned their craft in the days of sail.

Excellent. So my confusion regarding the Footrope and the Diamond was well justified, they are the same knot but reversed. So my question is why would I use a Diamond instead of a Footrope, as they seem to do the same job. I have a bias for the footrope because I first discovered it by myself while playing with a crown knot. I then searched Ashley till I found it was a Footrope knot. It was a whole new revelation when I discovered it could be doubled and tripled.

If used for example in lanyard for dittybag, in Diamond the strands come out near the rim but in Footrope in the middle.

Philip Le Masurier Depending on what you want to do afterwards - usually the Footrope tightens better as an end knot by way of having the crown cinching the cords together. If you were to follow with a sort of crowning the diamond knot might look and lay better. Think of the MWK where all strands also come out of the individual bights often followed by a crown sennit. This also may be ruled by how the knot starts in relation to how the strands come into the knot ie out of the previous braid or knot. There are more 2-stranded or 3- or 4-stranded stopper knots which are being diamond structured and also have a footrope structured counterpart like ABOK #781 and 783 or the ABOK #782 and ABOK #784, as well as ABOK #734 and 4-stranded 4P 4B Rosebud knot (Tom Hall's Western Tack Tips) aka 4-stranded Crown & Diamond knot.

Like Ashley you believe a foot rope knot is an upside down diamond knot but that is not so as one is the other inverted or inside out if you tie a foot rope knot and then roll the crown down over the wall you get a diamond knot

Marriage, they say "tied the knot" ; my friend wears it around his neck, that his wife made on their wedding night. Can you show us how the marriage knot is tied?

It is not about the model of knot, it is how you tie it. It should hold forever! Tied mine some 30 years ago and it still holds perfectly. :)
