I'm relatively new to crocheting but if you only use TWO colors, would that eliminate having to cut the yarn?

Yep. For this sample I used some older yarn that I have had. It is from Hobby Lobby. It is the Yarn Bee Soft and Sleek. I used the following colors: Bruschetta, Viridescent, and White.
