This was an interesting, informative and entertaining video with excellent videography and narration. Simply put, civilised countries rely on these very highly engineered pipes for potable water and sewage removal and processing along with countless industrial, manufacturing and agricultural usage. Life as we know it simply couldn't function without such underground networks. The test pressures were quite remarkable, I would never have imagined that the pipes would be subjected to such high proof pressures. It certainly instills confidence that these pipes will continue to give decades of trouble free service.

I've always wondered how the die is held in place inside the extrusion tube. How to hold it in place while there's continuous flow around it, without causing a break in the circumference of the tube during extrusion. I'm guessing its held early in the molten flow stage, a blade bracket of sorts, thin enough to allow 'healing' to occur beyond die location?

At 9:33 in the video you have a safety issue. You need to have your workers wearing at the minimum safety glasses when testing your pipe in the fashion. Although it would not be likely but if that piece of pipe were to fail while being compressed it could cause injury.
@sef22737 жыл бұрын
GaSmokeEater I seen that too. Plastic can shatter and throw pieces lol
@Cptdingus6 жыл бұрын
This plastic will not shatter because they most likely use vent canisters to suck the impurities out of the pipe while being extruded . You can feel pvc that has vent in it it has a sand paper texture and also it was most likely impact tested before being qc'd and also just looks like they are slightly applying pressure to see how much stress it takes to start to compress it not fully squishing it like the tests they show for the larger pipe where they flatten it and it does not shatter or even tear. The gauge only showed it being compressed .05 or so from what I saw .

11:37 why don't they put those smaller blue pipes into the larger green ones and have room for twice the load?
@Cptdingus6 жыл бұрын
3DPeter because the customer would have to get them out you would double the load to the banding and scratch or ruin your perfectly in spec pipe . Not to mention the inner pipe would be loose if not banded length wise
@3DPeter6 жыл бұрын
they could tape the end to prevent scratching, and then tie it up with a rachet that goes throuh the pipe, so that it can't fall out during transport, and weight can't be an issue, because a truck can haul far more heavier loads that that.
@Cptdingus6 жыл бұрын
3DPeter that would cause a hassle to the customer on their site . And cost at least 5x in banding lengthwise in every pipe rather than just wrapping them . just standards of how things are done we never did it where I had made PVC pipe

The pipe has the same dimensions as cast iron pipe. If a city is replacing its cast iron water or sewer mains with PVC, they may not have the funds to replace it all at once. By making the pipe the same size as a piece of cast iron pipe, they can directly replace sections one-by-one.
