I am glad some company's wind tunnel test with a rider on the bike. I mean why exclude the biggest drag factor that may change how air flows on some of the frame? Many quote there frames are x faster then another frame but exclude the effect the large mass on top has

I don't know about the weight, but I know aerodynamics can make a huge difference. The Mythbusters proved this with a car they made. They took a Ford Taurus, covered it in clay, and then added golf ball style divots into it. It got better MPG despite all the extra weight from the clay!

Hi. I would like to buy one. The place where I train has a lot of speed bump. Do you think this frame is enough strong to support many hits on these bumpers? Thanks.
@hayabusa274 жыл бұрын
Alexandre Senas speed bumps won't affect this bike, the triangle area that sits closer to the front wheel bottom is safe enough once it goes over bumps
@radiantlandscapesphotograp15258 жыл бұрын
No wind tunnel data comparison posted. We'll see how fast it really is once there is some DATA. Also the frame isnt exactly shaped like an airfoil, as most are nowadays, so you are not really taking advantage of the lift gained in a yaw. Although going fast you never see a yaw greater than 10 degrees, I wonder what type of yaw-related CFD computational analysis they did. Nothing really beats wind tunnel tests though.

O don't know if someone mentioned this, but in Kona you can't use a full disc in the back because of the cross winds. It'd be too unstable.
@Michelle_Schu-blacka7 жыл бұрын
I feel like aerodynamics on bikes is a moot point... As soon as you dump a meat bag on it, you have an instant sail and instant drag.
@schweet11986 жыл бұрын
I sorta feel the same... I think there's far more drag hitting the person's head, shoulders and legs than what the bike itself is catching.
@mamneo25 жыл бұрын
@@schweet1198 totally, drag force is directly proporcional to the area exposed to the air flow. A rider generates much more area than the bike, thus generating more drag. That certainly does not mean that making the bike as aero as possible it's not important.
@kyleessex63018 жыл бұрын
the big reason they don't use discs in kona is because the cycling leg of the race is unprotected and is prone to very strong winds

What's the maximum allowed cross section ratio for triathlon bikes? 17:1?
@shanemaiers65988 жыл бұрын
There is more to a bike than just aerodynamics, the bike will be much heavier. Especially if there is a disc wheel on the back, making it a bitch on the climbs. Also, what are the cornering and handling characteristics? Its not just about out and back, races are won and lost on the climbs, descents, and in the corners. Finally, i bet it will be a monster to control in a cross-wind because of it large surface area.
@phil23708 жыл бұрын
They tested the cross winds and nothing happens, doesn`t have to much influence. Also Disc wheels aren`t allowed in Kona (due to the danger of cross winds)

m8, starting point is now lower, also afaik, the chinese frame and wheels manufactures use open moulds, so i question where the hell they would get the mould for an Andean. There are actually some manufactures that make their own moulds, but i would question whether anyone would ask for a chinese Andean. After all, despite the title, you can't use it in TTs(when the UCI is involved) and not a lot people want a bike that radical, even though it might be crazy fast. I think it would take 2-3 years IF the Andean sells like hell you migth find a chinese copy. Wouldn recommend it though, cause a missing seatstay is too risky for me from china. My carbon frame for my MTB is doing fine, but a bike like the Andean is a diffrent story

About Kona, yes they are not allowed to use disc wheels there, because the crosswind is to strong. And about the Disc Brakes, actualy, the wheels will become more aero with disc brakes, because now they can produce wider wheels , since it does not need the area for the brake, and a wider wheel has been more aerodynamic, the coming years will greatly change the aerodynamics of the bikes due to disc brakes. And like was spoke here, in Kona this bike will be difficult to control , because of crosswinds. It will probably be a heavy bike, but to plan courses it does not matter much, since the weight makes more difference in long climbs . That if it is not extremely heavy of course. And come on, your bike is really nice, one of the most beautiful in fact , especially in the case of a average price bike, not a expensive one. These days you have posted about your work on instagram , fixing bikes I believe, you could launch a video about it! maintenance tips etc. Great video, nice topic!
