If you chop off the top 15 rows of the upper deck, you can't replace it with anything, since the heat radiating from the metal roof makes it almost impossible to be up there (which is why the D-baacks cant sell those seats). Also, the Coyotes were kicke out of Gila River Arena in Glendale, not the Footprint Center in downtown Phoenix.

Coyotes used to play in the arena now called Footprint Center, when it was under a different name, but it had many obstructed view seats in the upper deck.

@@HighpointerGeocacher The Footprint Center was originally known as America West Arena (the first of at least four corporate names it has had). When it was being designed, Jerry Colangelo asked the Roadrunners hockey team if they wanted to play there. The 'Runners declined (they liked the Coliseum just fine, thank you) which is why the rink that eventually was put was for ice shows, and not hockey, with a stage at the north end.

I'm a huge Diamondbacks fan and I love Chase Field, I practically grew up going there to games. It'll be ashamed to see it go, so I hope something gets done to where it can last longer. Especially since the D-Backs are pushing for a playoff spot right now.

"Last longer"? Fenway Park is 111 years old, and the Red Sox think it's still good until 2061. Chase Field is only 25 years old, and they think it's bad? They don't build 'em like they used to!

Chase field is very salvageable, it just needs a much needed renovation. The upper deck is very dated. The center field batters eye and jumbo definitely needs changed.

Also, when the stadium was built in the 90s, one of the county supervisors who voted for the sales tax that funded it took a bullet in the behind (which is still there 30 years later) for her troubles. This is TYPICAL for Arizona, where "tax" is a four letter word (since the locals tend to spell it with two x's).

Chase Field is in an awesome location right in Downtown Phoenix along the light rail line. If they want to build up a stadium district, these are some empty land south of Lincoln street. Chase Field has become too iconic a piece of the Phoenix skyline to move out of there.

The roof issue's have not been fixed. The seals and cabling system needs to be completely replaced. The bigger issue not mentioned is that there seems to be no interest from any other city to build a new stadium for the Dbacks. Tempe likely is out due to the failed vote on the Coyotes. City of Scottsdale has said they have no interest and the 101 fwy corridor in Scottsdale is actually tribal lands has tons of issues if they try to build a stadium there.

Ginger, you should go see Chase for yourself. Sure, the exterior isnt that attractive but the inside is pretty cool. The windows that open is a cool idea. Huge upper deck looks awesome!

Philadelphia has had a "stadium district" since the 1960's, although it was created as a destination only for the stadiums. Most of that part of Philly is an important warehouse/distrivution district and it's a good location for a such a district. They built a big restaurant/club building where the Spectrum, the old area, had been. There is a large park across Broad Street with a 9 hole golf course. But it's hard to see much else developing in the area, as it's bounded by highways and other barriers. I haven't heard about this recently, but there was a plan for the Sixers to move to a new arena in Center City, which sounds nuts to me because the parking and traffic capacity in the area is completely inadequate.

I’ve been to a number of parks and i like chase field. And with kids… they need to move the sandlot area to the 300 seats in right field and make it 3x as big. Then use the current sandlot area and make it a huge party/bar, adults only. Yes, the center field view and be improved, but not necessary now. That’s aesthetic. Do it when team wins more steadily. Of course the club/private box seating can be greatly approved. Overalll…Most parents just want a chuckecheese atmosphere/babysitting area. Need more of that. And more standing room only hangout areas in 300 seats. The last game I went to was hot as hell. It’s like the AC doesn’t work or they aren’t running it enough. Then again… this is a desert. It should be expected. And it was like 115+ for over a month this year. So blame god, not the facility.

ENOUGH with asking cities to renovate your ballpark pay for it yourselves stop threatening to move to a new city you cheapskate owners. If you need help building a new stadium from that city then yes but they should pay at least 50%. But for renovations pay for yourself, and no more having the city or state foot the bill for the entire stadium. These guys have enough money.
