VUSXX dividends are partially (80%) tax exempt in my state NJ, and gives higher interest rate than my Fidelity. No brainer. Thanks DNE!!
@bigcelery333 күн бұрын
Even better news regarding VUSXX, the 80% exemption was for the 2023 tax year as VUSXX made considerable investments in repurchase agreements earlier that year which are not state tax exempt; hence only 80% of dividends were tax exempt in 2023. In the 2024 tax year, all investments in VUSXX were either t-bills (the overwhelming majority consistently greater than 96% all year) or US government obligations, so per Vanguard's website update on January 22, 2025 for state tax exempt data for their funds, all 100% of VUSXX dividends in the 2024 tax year will qualify for the state tax exemption when you file your tax return for 2024.

For my Schwab brokerage accounts, I just buy SGOV if I want to park money. I live in a state with income tax, and SGOV is 96.45% state tax exempt. Plus being an ETF, you can quickly buy and sell throughout the trading day, (in case the market tanks and I want to quickly add some IVV or an individual stock) unlike buying into one of Schwab's money market funds, which ties up your money until it's bought or sold at the end of the day.

His name is David Lebryk and he wasn't ousted, he resigned/retired. DOGE requested access to payment history to perform an audit as this guy oversaw the ~6 Trillion dollars/year disbursements. Lebryk either got offended that someone wanted to look over his shoulder or he's corrupt, either way good riddance. An organization with that much financial responsibility over our tax dollars ought to be audited on a regular basis.

I stopped buying zero coupon T-Bills since we are in an economic environment where short-term rates will slowly continue to drop. I started buying treasury bonds with the highest coupon via the secondary market using Fidelity. I'm only buying while they are below their maturity price. This means they have a maturity date 20 to 30 years in the future. Typically, I can only buy 2 at a time per order. Sometimes I have to cancel the order if it doesn't fill within seconds, then place the order again and it fills very quickly. I have no idea why that happens.
