When he checked the seal he already had it all on and he turned the entire SCBA off which is very dangerous. When I check my seal I do it when only the mask is on and cover the hole with my hand.

@@D_V_.746 _"why you are not completely screwed if the integrity of the mask is damaged whilst operating in a hazardous atmosphere"_ Sorry I'm late to the party, but I'm curious; Is that because of constant over-pressure compared with the environment? The way you explained it, I can't help but compare it to my CPAP/APAP device. Constant pressure means the only air reaching my face is air coming thru the device (as long as it pushes, anyway. The mask has inward check-valves so I don't asphyxiate in a power outage).

I have a question the bypass valve should be on or off during the use of the equipment? by the name bypass I understand that should be used in case that something is not working right. is this correct or wrong. Thx!
@lukewright11927 жыл бұрын
You would check the gauge at the start. ? It would be pointless running through all these checks if there wasn't enough air available. It would waste valuable time taking it back off and putting on another B.A..
@kaigrundmann92776 жыл бұрын
Luke Wright yes of course. From what I know you check your equipment every day and again on the way to the fire. The last check is for your own safety ( you dont say, all of these steps are for my own safety *facepalm* ) just to check if everything is really alright

Why do firefighters use gas tanks instead of a gas masks (filter)?
@supertrinigamer3 жыл бұрын
Because of temperature, and no filter can provide adequate airflow immediately while also safely filtering out everything.

Is the same air used in diving compressed in to these BAs?
@davidjameswatson41314 жыл бұрын
up to a certain distance, at deep distances oxygen become toxic i believe, just search at what depth is compressed air safe underwater
@davidjameswatson41314 жыл бұрын
66 metres (217 ft) Depth at which breathing compressed air exposes the diver to an oxygen partial pressure of 1.6 bar. Greater depth is considered to expose the diver to an unacceptable risk of oxygen toxicity.

Although it is recommended to put the mask on and the hood after, you can also have a good seal when the hood is on, before donning the mask. Just need to set the straps correctly.

one thing stood out to me here, once opening the airflow from the cylinder, fully, he proceeds to close the valve by a quarter turn. I have never seen this, in my 2 years of HazMat / Environmental Emergency Response on the field. Even in my SCBA training, this is not something we do. Can anyone explain the reasoning behind this? Im open to taking on a new technique if its actually beneficial.
@TetsuGS2 жыл бұрын
It’s to prevent backseating it’s applicable to most valves that prevents damage and possibly failure over time
