Living in Vegas one of my favorite Bond flicks for obvious reasons. I go down to Freemont quite often and replay this scene over and over when I'm down there. The Mint is no longer around (I believe it is the place you can get the Deep Fried Twinkees now). Don't see Jackie Gaughn's Plaza and The Pioneer Club is no more, Vegas Vic the smoking cowboy is still there but he now stands on top of a gift shop.

As luck would have it, the family was on a short vacation in Las Vegas and visited Freemont Street the night of the filming. We didn't stay around long, but everyone you see on Freemont Street stood there for hours to watch the actual filming. It was a great experience to see some of it. I like the movie because I saw a little bit of movie history being made.😊

Bill Hickman who drove the Dodge Charger in Bullitt and the Pontiacs in the French Connection & The Seven Ups was the driver who performed the jump over the cars from the parking lot. The previous stunt driver destroyed two mustangs trying to do it. They were down to their last Mustang; they called Hickman in to do the stunt and he got it on one take. Showed why he was known as the best stunt driver at that time.

On my way to a party today, I drove thru this same area! Waited forever for a red light to turn green, and started to drive all across Fremont street to find my way to that party. I managed to make it with no problems. I didn't know if I had a Bond moment or not. Traffic is alot hectic on the new strip than Fremont street!

I love how the second director basically threw up his hands and gave up on crowd control during this scene. People are just all over the sidewalks, barely off the streets with no restraints as cars nearly fly into them. Another part of America you will never see again.

The chase scene featured here will hopefully be used in the upcoming epic movie version of the classic 1991-95 NBC sitcom series of “BLOSSOM”, but the movie version will be using the title of “JAMES DEAN VERSUS NICK RUSSO”, and in place of the 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1, the 1969 Dodge Charger known as the General Lee will be fleeing from the blue and white 1970 Ford Custom police cruisers of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department as well as the black and white 1971 Ford Custom cruiser used by the Clark County Sheriff’s Department due to the fact that Las Vegas is in Clark County, Nevada.

Guy Hamilton recently revealed the reason for that error. The exiting from the alley was filmed first and the entering came second and when they realised it and Chubby Brocolli refused to let Guy "fix everything".

Just FYI - This chase on Fremont Street (many years prior to it being pedestrianized), during the course of which 007 passes several famous casinos, notably the Vegas Club, Binion's Horseshoe, and the Golden Nugget, on multiple occasions -- and in both directions! -- without making enough U-turns to make sense and without making enough turns, period, to have been driving around the block....well...the whole scene seems to mess with the space-time continuum!!

+zizzfilm Well,. that and the fact that it's possible to flip a Mustang from one side to the other side in a narrow alleyway right? :)
@jasongoodacre
@jasongoodacre 5 жыл бұрын
vinceoniep the car flip from right to left was due to a continuation error. The entrance and exit were filmed at two different locations and a second stunt driver who was French was used to doing the stunt on opposite wheels.

The Utah State Troopers and the SLCPD (Salt Lake City) officers were villains in the 1983 drama movie of “SAVANNAH SMILES”, just as the Chicago PD and the Illinois State Police were the villains in “THE BLUES BROTHERS” in 1980, and even tv producers occasionally make police officers the villains as they did in the 1963-67 ABC drama series “THE FUGITIVE”, not to mention that the police officers for the city of Nashville, Tennessee, became the villains when they separated a boy from his father on orders from a private investigator named Matt Greenwood as played by the late actor Lance LeGault in the episode titled “DOWN HOME COUNTRY BLUES” on “SIMON & SIMON” in 1985. Even in the classic 1979-81 NBC adventure comedy series of “BJ & THE BEAR” portrayed the greater majority of the police officers as villains, depending upon the storyline of the episode in question, and the same thing goes for the classic 1979-85 CBS adventure comedy series “THE DUKES OF HAZZARD”.

When each and every portion of this scene is re-enacted for the upcoming epic movie “JAMES DEAN VERSUS NICK RUSSO”; the movie version of the classic 1991-95 NBC sitcom series of “BLOSSOM”, the police will become a house divided against itself as Blossom Russo herself together with 1950s movie icon James Dean are being hunted by the police thanks in part to the social influence, political connections, and thensome of a Dr. Lawrence “Larry” Sunderland (for which an uncredited stand-in will play by filling in for the late actor Lloyd Bochner).
