You’re telling bs they arent worthless they are very mich rare and expensive and because one company owns most of the diamond industry it doesn’t mean they raise the price artificially they cant put out that many diamonds they are very very hard to dig up in mass simce they’re also rare they just can’t put out that many if them its like saying a car company is artificially raising prices cause they dont sell as many cars as a plastic cup company sells plastic cups

Diamonds are not worthless. But the prices are inflated. I used to work in the jewelry industry. If you want to obtain diamonds for less, then look for a diamond supplier that wholesales diamonds to jewelers. Then make up a fake name for a jewelry business and order using that name as your business name. This is how I obtained a diamond that the jewelry store would have charged me $5000 for, for only $1200. Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat all affect value. Generally, diamonds are not terribly rare or valuable. You can get a fairly large industrial diamond for a few dollars. But it will be ugly in color as most diamonds are. it will be cloudy as most diamonds are. And it will be crudely shaped as most diamonds are. But diamonds that are of a desirable color are more valuable. Diamonds that are devoid of visible flaws are more valuable. Diamonds that are larger are more valuable and when they are cut into a perfectly formed shape they are more valuable. It may take a stone cutter hours to make a large rough diamond perfectly shaped. To say that diamond is worthless is like saying your house is worthless because trees are common.

@wscamel226

@@ekklesiast Yeah I know but it's still the same thing! And it's iritating! Because they not only have monopol, but also they can prove that their product costs much more even thought it's possible to get it much cheaper. The fact that they put so much work into it just makes it so much worse! To get you an idea of what I mean: Imagine you have bricks. Normal bricks normal price. But then someone finds a method to make these bricks that is 10 000 times more expensive and sells it for a price that is 20000 more expensive because "they are more exclusive" or something like that. And they ensure that the regular bricks aren't sold as their by randomly checking if it's their product by convincing regular people that their product is worth much more and if someone will sell fake brick someone will find out and you will be in trouble. So everyone checks. And because everyone does so, everyone does so. So what I mean is basically that expensive method is just more expensive without any significant rise in quality which make it worse but also it makes fake value for something that shouldn't have such value. And if you don't care about all of this at all here is the final nail in the coffin: Digging for diamonds makes probably more CO2. This destroys climat.

Jewelry stores are not charities. A business does not exist so that people can trade items back and forth without any gain. Do you work for free? Of course jewelry stores make a profit. @@i.8356 I worked for Tiffany & Co. for a decade and I make jewelry as a hobby and sometimes sell. I also had a flea market booth for years specializing in antiques and collectibles and it astonishes me to no end how so many people simply do not understand about how a retail business operates. Here is an eye opener. Most retail businesses are not Walmart. The vast majority do not have billions of dollars in buying power in order to get good deals. The vast majority cannot survive on a 5% markup like Walmart or Home Depot does. If a jewelry store has a price tag of $1000 on a used estate jewelry piece and they paid more than $300 for that item then they are not actually making a profit. Did you think the $700 difference is profit? Jewelry stores have to pay rent, utility bills, labor, insurance, advertising and a number of other expenses. If you sell your grandmother's ring to a jewelry store for $100 and they put a price of $300 on it they will be offered $200 and they will accept it. Out of that $200 of course first comes the $100 they paid for it. Then they will be paying $25 in rent and another $25 in labor and another $25 in other overhead. If they are lucky they got a profit of $25 out of that ring. To do that it has to sit in the case an average of three months. Then out of that $25 they will be paying taxes of around $8 so the amount they put in their pocket is around $17.

@@nunyabiznez6381 That's Bs and you know it. Rent and labor aren't even factors for buying/reselling jewelry. A single attendant could make up to 5 sales within a single hour, making that rent and labor for that hour paid for more than 5x over. Rent and labor aren't that expensive, or McDonald's wouldn't even exist. High value products bring in a lot of cash. There's a reason why their annual revenue is 4 billion dollars despite not having that many stores and only 15k employees. That's $266,000 in profit per employee per year. In comparison, Walmart makes 500 billion in profit with over 2.3 million employees. That's $217,000 in profit per employee. If Walmart had the sales Tiffany does per employee, they would rake in over $600 billion per year. 100 billion in this context doesn’t seem like a lot, but it is.

Don't remember the video, but once I saw that diamonds are so easy to make in a lab, and they are basically identical to the real deal, almost more valuable depending on the context. Might not be exactly like that, but it goes to show that a lot of things only have value because we let it have
