honestly yuri on ice was the most life changing anime i’ve ever watched. idk what i would be without it XD

Same, it was huge for me when I watched it. So, when it somehow came into my conversation about anime with my cousin and he spoke negatively of it, I felt pretty upset inside. I had to pretend I didn't know about the show. He said, oh, that show is a yaoi (he said it with an annoyed voice very slowly). I'm pretty sure he's homophobic after that. The thing is, yaoi often has a lot of unhealthy relationship tropes so that's why I'm not interested in it. I don't watching romance where people make out a lot and more in general to be honest. I prefer that the characters interact casually more for some time. So, seeing that happen between two guys in a sports anime was shocking to me.

I had seen the spoilers when I finally got my own phone. I watched it about a year later after ignoring it. I had been unsure due to being aware of the fanservice scenes( Victor standing up naked in the onsen with only a convenient object covering him). Mainly that to be honest. But then, they trained, talked, got to know each other while sitting on the sandy beach on a cloudy day. I was quickly drawn in to that. They hung around each other a lot. Yuuri made his theme for his performances on Love. They kissed after an incredible performance. They went shopping and exchanged rings in front of a church. I was so amazed. That's what true love is. Their love for each other. On the side note, as a band nerd(flute player) I loved the music in the show. The instrumentals, just so pretty.

So I just realized something- in the newest episode, the whole crowd was stunned and thought Yuri doing a quad flip was absolutely stunning. A quad flip is Victor's signature move, and at 1:23, Victor is on his left foot and jabbing back with his foot to launch him up for his quad flip. So if Yuri copied his Grand Prix performance perfectly and it went viral- Why did no one think he knew how to do a quad flip? It could just be a wow factor, like they weren't expecting it to be in his show where it was. But Victor made it sound like he never knew how to do it in the first place.

That's really interesting to think about. Maybe the context in which Yuuri did the quad flip - one a live stage, as the very last jump to make as well. A lot different from Viktor's routine! That could be the reason!

That's what I was thinking. =O I was also considering- since it was Victor they showed doing the Quad Flip in his World Championship performance, it could have been that Yuri brought down the difficulty of some of the jumps in his copying. But if that were true- I don't think it would have gone as viral as it did, considering his friend was screaming and celebrating that it looked JUST like Victor. So I really think he DIDN'T do triples instead of quads. I think it's purely just the wow factor of doing Victor's signature move and that the flip is a turn where you turn INTO the side where you launched yourself from to get the rotation. Whereas in dance- I find that difficult to do and the fact that it was at the end of his performance and he was supposed to be tired.

That could also be an probable theory.... but I agree with you in saying that people were really surprised by his performance so that he most likely didn't lower the difficulty. I also think that if Yuuri copied Viktor so much, that he would probably have the majority of those jumps down in a practice setting. But it could be a completely different case of Yuuri when he performs live just because of his nerves and jitters!

it's likely because its the final jump, meaning yuuri has no stamina left to execute such a difficult quad, or should have. But he managed anyway, meaning technically that quad flip would be harder than the one in victor's, even if he flubbed it, just because of how late in the program it was. It's the same reason jumps placed in the second half of a program get you more points, its just harder
