Greetings from Scotland! I should say right away that that was the very tip of a gigantic iceberg! Here, Diana was 18yo. She is 19yo currently but I've been following her since she was around 13yo. Diana is a natural Dramatic Contralto so the lower registers are her comfort zone but she now has a 4 octave range and it's increasing. She also naturally sings with polyphonic overtones so it sounds like many voices at the same time! Diana's birthmother had multiple miscarriages but when Diana came along, she seemed to hate her. She verbally and physically abused her, trying to drown her and belittle her. It all culminated when (at 3yo) she dragged her to a bus stop with a broken collarbone and abandoned her, saying "Survive if you can" A passing relative took her in but because she cried constantly (naturally with a broken collarbone) she took her to the authorities who removed Diana from her birthmothers care and placed her in an orphanage. For almost 2 years Diana never gave up hope and she knew that she was meant for something better. (This story is in her Wikipedia entry) Finally her new mother (Irina Ponik, who worked as a masseuse there occasionally) Signed her adoption papers and took her home. She vowed to pay Irina back for her kindness. Irina had a real struggle because Diana had obviously been badly affected by the experiences and at 5yo, she had a very bad stammer. It was recommended that she be taken for singing lessons to help this and immediately it was recognised that Diana had perfect pitch and an excellent ear for music and songs. 1 year later, at 6yo, Diana was performing solo on stage! This young unique phenomenon sang everywhere and anywhere she could, working constantly to earn money for the family who rescued her. At 13yo she held her 1st solo concert and one of the songs she sang was in a very rare Sephardic Jewish/Spanish dialect, a song called "Me Voy" (I'm leaving) with a power and emotional commitment that staggers belief! kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y2rClGichdekpNE She was already winning every contest in Russia and other countries that she could get to. Jennifer, for you and all those in your audience that may not know, this performance took place on September 25, 2021 and was the first performance during the inaugural season of a new Russian vocal competition called the "ShowMaskGoOn". Diana's cover of the Elvis Presley classic Can't Help Falling In Love, demonstrates Diana Ankudinova has developed into a true contralto voice type. For those that don't know female voice types, a contralto is the lowest kind of female voice, and a true contralto voice type is very, very rare. During the beginning this first performance you can here Diana’s low contralto sound, and a common question is asked about Diana's vocal range because vocal range is one of the primary defining factors used in determining a female singer's voice type. In 2017, at 13, her vocal range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5. Diana has said she is not happy with her lack of a higher vocal range, and this lack kept her out of the more prestigious music academies. Diana, along with her vocal teacher decided to work extensively on developing her higher vocal range. In September 2021, during this performance, at age 18, (now 19), her vocal range was again measured and the work she and her voice teacher put in is paying off. Her range was again measured during this performance and her functional range now goes from a low of C3 to a high of B♭5, giving Diana almost a 3-octave range. But, it's not simply how low she can go, it's in the exceptional quality of her tone in her lower range. It's in the roundness, fullness, the depth of her voice, and in her ability to create, access and use an enormous amount of resonance. Diana's ability to create and use this resonance further defines Diana as a "dramatic contralto" and a dramatic contralto is the deepest, darkest, and most powerful contralto and is the rarest of the rare contralto voice types. The question most people have is, how does Diana do it? How is it possible for such a young female singer to achieve such a low, rich, deep, and profound sound? Without the ability to actually scope her vocal tract while she is producing those low notes to see what is happening within her vocal tract, the general conciseness is simply attributing Diana's ability to her winning the genetic lottery, meaning she was just born with unique vocal anatomy. Diana's vocal folds (vocal cords) appear to be longer and thicker than most female singers. Her larynx also appears to be larger and her pharynx similarly appears to be longer than other female singers, plus she has a large oral cavity. When combined, this unique vocal anatomy gives Diana Ankudinova the ability to produce these low, deep, rich, and full sounds, but without actually scoping Diana's vocal track to verify, there is no way to be 100% sure. To really appreciate the vocal progression of Diana's contralto sound, listen to "Rechenka", a Russian folk song she sing's in her native Russian for a vocal competition for disadvantaged teens called "You Are Super!" during their 2018 Season when Diana was 14 years old. You can hear the beginning of Diana's deep and rich lower range and a mature sound for her age. Next, listen to her cover of Chris Izaak's, "Wicked Game" the following year in 2019 when she was 15 years old during the 2019 Season of "You Are Super!". Diana Ankudinova a year later is just about at a true contralto vocal range but not quite there yet. Diana Ankudinova won both the 2018 and 2019 seasons of You Are Super. Diana also has mastered a singing technique known as polyphonic singing which is extraordinary for someone so young. A singer that has mastered polyphonic singing can create one, and sometimes two, different tones at the same time which adds to the harmonic overtones and undertones that can make it sound like more than one voice singing. It is this polyphonic ability that some people mistakenly believe Diana Ankudinova is using some form of artificial electronic voice manipulation or is using some kind of pitch correction software to alter or adjust her sound. Others believe another person is singing in the background off stage, or Diana is lip-syncing over a previously recorded vocal track that was altered or modified. No artificial manipulation of Diana's voice is happening at all, and no one else is singing off stage, nor is she lip-syncing to a vocal track. Other voices and music you are hearing all vocal backing tracks used to fill in and round out the performance along with the musical score. Diana Ankudinova and only Diana Ankudinova is singing Can't Help Falling In Love. Female singers usually don't reach their full vocal maturity until somewhere around 24 to 28 years of age while some do reach it sooner, and others, later. Diana Ankudinova's vocals have already developed well ahead of schedule in reaching vocal maturity, and some vocal professionals believe she has already reached her vocal maturity, but the jury is still out. Diana Ankudinova during this competition was the first to perform with her cover of "Can't Help Falling In Love" during "TheShowMaskGoOn!" competition. During Diana's performance, the judge on the top row, the first to stand up is the Russian opera tenor, Yusif Eyvazov from Azerbaijan. He was invited to participate as a special guest judge for this competition. Yusif Eyvazov is married to the world-famous Russian soprano Anna Netrebko. At the end of Diana's performance, she receives a standing ovation from all her fellow competitors. One of her competitors is Julia Parshuta who is a well-known contemporary Russian singer and is the blond woman standing in the center row dressed in red. She looks totally shocked at the end of Diana's performance, puts both hands on top of her head, and looks totally bewildered and is in total disbelief. Julia Parshuta, in addition to the other judges now know, at some point, she and the other contestants will have to compete against Diana Ankudinova, who everyone now recognizes as a generational talent. Finally, Diana won this competition.

You are right, but just one thing: I think she was the last one to perform. You can watch the 8 minute clip on her own youtube channel (there is sadly no longer of the show, at least to my knowledge). And one of the judges say, that he has to redo his points now. Also both the hosts (one admits he was also crying) says the only thing left is counting the points or something.

Arts and crafts, photography, acting, comedy, and I recently found out that my singing voice is actually kinda ok ;-) All of that is to say, yes, I have some understanding of art. Theres a long version where all judges, peers, explain how moved, truly moved they were. The guy who stood up is a seasoned world class opera singer as is his wife, and he had truly poignant observations and advice. They all did. Here are three reasons why Diana (the Queen of Goosebumps) doesn't sound human. First, she is a contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice.
