Greetings from Scotland! "How is that possible?" This young lady is totally, absolutely unique in the world of singers. Diana can combine her light and dark tones so she can sound deep in her head voice or light in her chest voice! She can do this AND create polyphonic overtones at the same time. MANY people have tried to explain or describe how she can do this, but the reality is Diana was born with the special vocal apparatus and abilities that no amount of training can produce. She is unique, beautiful and unique!

One of my favorites by her is from the "Show Mask Go On" entitled "Oh' It's Not Yet Evening" kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZe3moShf9d_n5I. It's an over 300 year old folk song about a Cossack warrior who dreams of his death in an imminent battle. On Diana's face you see sadness, anxiety and pain of the soul of the Cossack warrior. One would swear she borrowed that soul to perform the song. I'm not sure how many people appreciate the emotional gasps she produces here that absolutely melt me. BTW, you're hooked!!!

The story is that it was her aunt who picked her up at a bus stop where she had been abandoned by her mother, suffering a broken collarbone from her mistreatment. She was 3 1/2. A daughter of one of the women who volunteered to work in physical therapy at the local orphanage convinced her own mother to adopt this little girl who spoke only stutteringly. It happened, and the adoptive mother sent her to a speech therapist who suggested singing as a therapy. Obviously, they discovered something incredible. And someone incredible. Your are correct in opinion of her work and its effect. Thanks for your fine reaction. 👍 Please allow me to suggest a method of studying Diana Ankudinova's magic. After she performed 2 songs in the competition, including this one, the judges asked her to do a song in her native language. She chose an ancient ritual ballad about an orphan being forced to marry and leave her home. She goes to the nearby river to seek solace, bemoaning her fate to the small river. Diana Ankudinova was only 15 years old at the time of this performance of Wicked Game. The vocal competition Diana took part in was called “You Are Super” and it took place on May 12, 2019. During this performance some reactors were saying it sounded like Diana was using Auto-Tune during this performance, or some other kind of electronic vocal Manipulation. The general consensus of many other reactors, recording sound engineers, and actual vocal professionals, not just reactors, all say no. NO auto-tune was added or used, nor any other form of electronic voice manipulation. What many may not know is this, Diana Ankudinova has learned, mastered, and uses a vocal technique known as polyphonic singing and a singer that has mastered the polyphonic singing technique can create an additional tone which adds to the harmonic overtones and can makes it sound an octave above and sometimes an octave and ½ above, which can sound like more than one voice singing. This performance was her second appearance on the “You Are Super”, vocal competition, Diana Ankudinova won the previous year in 2018. The 2019 season of the show was called a super-season and consisted mostly of winners and finalists from previous seasons. As the 2018 winner, Diana Ankudinova was invited back, and she also won this 2019 super-season. Many true vocal professionals were saying during this performance Diana Ankudinova was displaying all the hallmarks of her becoming a true contralto voice type, plus her musicality and stage presence was well beyond the ability of the vast majority of 15 year old girls during her “Wicked Game” performance. Diana was abandoned by her mother at 3 1/2 years old with a broken collarbone in winter. Her aunt took her to an orphanage thinking she was retarded due to stuttering badly. Whilst there she was adopted by a wonderful family who were advised to take her to singing lessons to help with her speech. The rest is history and is still unfolding.

I think that her broken collarbone remodeled and informed that area of her neck and affected her larynx maturation into the polyphonics she has. Ive seen early childhood injuries result in the bodies over protection and defensive tissue response in contusions and effects it has. Any way she was given great takent and a gift to make up for the extreme hardship she had in her beginnings. Everything she. Does is magical. Enjoy the ride.
