The duduk is such an interesting instrument, and she mixes her voice perfectly with it. She reserves her fine vibrato, and does her own backing vocals. And the effect is just...Wow. If you haven't covered her most recent public performance, she did the only live singing at the Russian equivalent of our Oscars. It is a song composed by a recently deceased conductor/composer made for the poetry written by another. She sings as the back screen displays names, profession, and pictures of all those in the industry who have passed over the last 2 years. This time she shows how to meld a beautiful vibrato with an almost shocking emotion. The response of the audience to this magnificent moment is living proof of the effect. The Duduk makes a thoughtful and melancholy sound. The soft tones emanate a magic that casts its spell over and over again. The unique sound of the Duduk has now fascinated the whole world. * The legend of Duduk: The young wind began to play with a beautiful tree on the mountain, wonderful sounds flew over the mountains. The prince of the winds was annoyed by this and caused a great storm to rise. The young wind tried to defend his tree, but his strength was not strong enough. He fell at the feet of the prince of the winds and asked him not to destroy the beauty. He agreed, but at the same time punished him: 'If you leave the tree, it will be destroyed'. Time passed, the young wind got bored and rose once into the sky. The tree died, leaving only a branch that was hit by a gust of wind. A young man found this branch and cut a pipe from it. But the voice of that pipe was sad. Since then the Duduk has been played in Armenia: at weddings, funerals, in war and in peace.
