Hi Lucie, I think it's hard not to be impressed by this performance. If you don't feel anything here, you're dead. A singing teacher once commented on this song that if he wrote down all the singing techniques Diana uses here, he would have a list of all the singing techniques. The song is about an orphan who is about to get married and goes to the river to talk to her parents and ask for their blessing. The river is the connection to the world of the dead. The celebration can be heard in the background. That's the swinging part of the music. You probably already know that Diana was in an orphanage. It seems to be her song. Hence all the emotions she expresses admirably here. Diana's acting, the scenery, the dancers. This is musical theatre - at its best. I've seen several Russian's sing this song, famous ones...and nobody adds the darkness, intensity and color Diana does. It's almost a different song because mood is so much more intense and dramatic with Diana's vocalizations.

There's another prior performance of "Rechenka" (The River) where she was much younger. I think that performance was even better and more mesmerizing than this one, despite the fact that her voice wasn't as mature and stable as it is now. That said, I think she was only 14 or 15 years old at that time and at one point the dancers picked her up and set her back down, which made it even more impressive that she kept her singing so stable and beautiful. Diana is a force of nature!

One video of Diana's, in my sight, is a total masterpiece the like of which I don't remember ever seeing before in my long life. It's a must see for anyone that loves singing with unending emotion. The background of the song is essential to know. The title of the song is "Ornery (or "Fastidious" or "Finicky") Horses". The song has nothing to do with horses in reality - the horses are being used as a metaphor for life. The author of song is begging the horses to slow down (he is aware he is approaching death), but, at the same time he is whipping them along (his chaotic lifestyle) - he knows that his lifestyle is taking him to an early death, however, he is unable to change it.....the composer of the song, Vladimir Vysotsky, was a singer-songwriter, poet, and actor as well as an alcoholic & drug addict and died in 1980 at the age of 42. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqabmopvd8iKo7s . Look her up on Wikipedia. She was adopted by her physical therapist. She rarely does this song when doing others. Because it takes so much out of her emotionally. After the trama of her childhood. She basically had (PTSD).

Zdravim zase po case...:) U tehle pisne je znacne lepsi si vzit jeji prvni vystoupeni v soutezi, kdy ji bylo zrovna 14 a mela tam velkou produkci. I zpevem to bylo vtazne lepsi, akorat tam neni preklad. Ta produkce hodne dela k pochopeni o co tam jde. To co Diana v tehle pisnich pouziva (bohuzel tvori zatim jen malou cast jeji produkce) jsou tradicni samanisticke pojeti zpevu. Diana je puvodem tatar a ma k tomu velice blizko. A ve svych vystoupenich dokaze tenhle tradicni samanisticky duch pouzivat na zesileni jejiho velice vzacneho hlasu... Jinak tahle pisem je skutecne o vyvolavani ducha mrtve matky nevestou...

The first time she performed this Russian folk song, during one of her first (successful) competitions, it had a more theatrical quality, and her singing was more precise. I recommend listing to that version. She was only 14 years old, at the time.

Каверы Дианы постоянно переворачивают песню под нее. Думаю ,с ней работают талантливые,знающие ее оранжировщики. Ее версия "Реченьки"на шоу "Ты - супер" более удачная,но видимо там глушат за авторские права. Изначальная версия "Реченьки" в современном варианте была в исполнении Аллы Пугачевой. Но это очень разные оранжировки. Традиционная народная версия‐это третий вариант.🙄
