"That day"
On April 27, 1994, I took my mother's hand
for it was a new day in our land.
She was 68 and I was 41
and as the morning sun
made it's daily run,
we walked slowly step by step.
The roads were abuzz
but our minds were clear,
a new day in our lives was here.
On wobbly legs she entered the hall
but with head held high...
She
suddenly looked so tall.
I watched as she made her cross,
as we regained the dignity that we have lost.
That day on April 27, 1994,
I took my mother's hand
for it was a new day in our land.
