I agree that people are entitled to like whatever kind of music they want and It seems like the younger generation is more focused on competition and numbers, but it's important to remember that music is not a competition. It's about the art and the expression of the artist. That being said I understand that you have a competitive spirit so let's focus on the facts! Not many artists can match Diana Ross' level or brand of success. And here's why: Diana Ross had many number-one hits in different decades including the '60s, '70s, '80s, and '90s. During the '90s, her career went global internationally with top 10 chart hits and songs that went up to number two on the charts. Recently, from 2017 to 2020, she's had four number-one dance remixes on the Billboard Club. Diana Ross has had hugely successful tours all the way up to 2023. She also has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and two lifetime Grammy achievement awards. Ms. Diana Ross is a professional singer, mega superstar, and an excellent contender to be put back in the Guinness Book of World Records for this alone."

It's only because Ross voice doesn't shower you like a church voice. Ross voice is elegant, clear, soft, and mesmerizing, and the people who runs the music industry wanted her to sing a certain way, act a certain way, and record material that they wanted her to sing and therefore they took away her airplay on radio and put her music on the shelf in America after the mid 80s because she did not conform. Whitney Houston did not pose a threat to the gods who control the music industry and therefore was showcased, highlighted, and pushed to the forefront because she was more of a yes, person, when it came to her recordings. Ross took control of her career, like it or not, Ross said it's my way or no way,and she made that clear when signed that Meg contract with RCA after leaving Motown. That set the tone for the music industry to try and dismantle her career. She was not willing to deal with this crazy American music market and took it for what it's really like. Ross did not suffer a best in her popularity, selling albums, and sold-out concerts overseas. That is what's wrong with Music today. You only know what America puts in front of you, and it indoctrinates your mind to ping one person music against another. People are indoctrinated thru education, media, church, and how they think and perceive the world. It's sad! However, Ross has not lost a beat. She is still a success to this day. While Whitney has one of the most beautiful voices of any pop artists, especially during the late 80s thru 90s, Ross exudes the complete embodiment of what a Megastar is and possesses and shows the resilience and longevity that very few artists male or female has ever had in this business. She still reigns Supreme!

Thank you. I had never seen the part, I think it was her being interviewed after the Grammys, give such a heartfelt comment about. Without a doubt, Clive Davis references Diana as the type of Diva he would emulate. Whitney’s early hits were written by Michael Masser and her legacy as the ultimate Diva inspired Whitney’s timely legacy. When Diana won the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, Whitney presented it to her. Apparently, she and Whitney sat together all night and celebrated with a fine vintage wine!, too bad it wasn’t televised.

No! That is not exactly true @joeclarke6973 ..So, I disagree with @joeclarke6973's statement that Whitney Houston changed her stance. She actually expanded on what she said, which is a part of growth. I don't think it's fair to use that against her. Many young people don't understand what Diana Ross represents, which is why they may attack her in favor of other artists. It's important to educate others about the significance of artists like Diana Ross, regardless of whether they inspire your generation or not.

@@PoliticalFunk007 Also, let's not forget, she was reared by Cissy Houston founder and lead vocalist of the Sweet Inspirations that worked/toured with Elvis Presley, but also grew up around legendary songstresses like her idol Aretha Franklin, her cousin Dionne Warwick, her Godmother Darlene Love, ect....Whitney becoming a legendary songstress herself had all she needed right there. I personally think because Whitney never gushed over Diana, like she did Aretha, some Diana fans feel a certain way. Diana was never known as this great voice, like an Aretha, I think that may have more than anything painted how she initially saw Diana. Furthermore, her only connection to Diana so far as the media painted things was "crossover" even though some think Whitney wasn't. It was Whitney, like Diana, having mass appeal not just to black people, but white people as well. Being embraced across the board.
