There was something about them doing The Happening here, that just seemed to have the energy and sound of the '60s Supremes. I don't think I'd ever heard of Diana doing that song in her live act before 2000, since she last did it with the group in 1969.

Here's a little bit of interesting information about this tour. Scherrie Payne stated in a radio interview that it's Motown who owns the name "Diana Ross and The Supremes" and thus Diana had to lease the name for (according to Scherrie) A LOT of money to bill the tour in this manner. Diana obviously sealed that deal before Mary and Cindy had signed off on the project, figuring it was inevitable that they would sign. When that didn't happen, I'm guessing she had to scramble to find "some/any" Supremes to get her money's worth for the leasing of the name DRATS. A fact, use it as you wish.

The world didn’t end, but The Supremes did. Losing Flo was rough, losing Diana was death - all you had left was the least popular original with two replacements who kept being replaced. They were a group, yes. They made a few good records, yes. Were they The Supremes? NO - and the public made that loud and clear their album sales were terrible, they did not draw well in a lot of their live concerts and pretty soon their bookings were getting to be of lower quality and lower prices.

This proved that Diana is nothing short of miracles. She can share the stage with the Supremes and work with them even though she didnt perform with them in the 60's . I think, in going to this show, that this concert proved to the USA...and Canada, that there were more supremes , Not just Mary, Flo and Cindy. There were 8 Supremes total and everyone seemed to have forgotten about that....until this tour. Way to go Diana! I am gonna see her in NYC this May.....I cant wait.

I think Mary deciding not to do the tour had less to do with money but more to do with the growing feeling she was going to be treated like the hired help, not an equal and getting equal respect, and she simply did not have the heart to face that prospect. Why the tour was stopped remains a mystery; it was doing good business and getting excellent reviews. Both Scherrie and Lynda said Diana Ross treated them royally and continually expressed appreciation for their talents and their conscientiousness. The tour being cut short was something they did not anticipate other.

Some blamed Diana for the failed concerts. I didn't. I will continue to see Diana in concert. If you look on KZbin, you will see Diana singing @ Royal Albert Hall (4 Queen Elizabeth), Vienna (Placido & Jose), England (Prince Charles) & Italy hosting the Opera Awards. Australia, Istanbul, Holland, South Africa, Monaco, etc. She is international all by herself. She hosted 2 AM award shows. How could Mary possibly expect the same salary when she doesn't have the same resume. Makes no sense.

too bad i wasn't able to attend this concert. i had bought tickets ahead of time for the show scheduled at the Arrowhead Ponds here in Orange County, CA. but unfortunately, the tour had ended before that date. it would have been great to see diana (and the supremes) do songs like "i hear a symphony" and "the happening", two songs of which she never performs at her solo concerts during her supremes medley segments.

I know this was 14 years ago, but I'm not saying this because I love Mary Wilson. Mary stuck by her principles and asked to be treated fairly. Throughout the Supremes career with Diana Ross, Mary did as she was told by Motown, didn't create any problems within the group and when she finally ended up going solo in 1979 she worked hard to get her voice back. It wasn't easy for her. I've seen her many times in concert and she has a lot of talent. If she truly needed the 4 million dollars she would have swallowed her pride and been there. But, it's apparent that Diana Ross wanted to have the stage to herself. They are not even standing together. I agree with Mary. She was able to overcome a lot of obstacles. Good for you, Ms. Wilson!

She wouldn't have had to pay for anything, not a gown, a meal or any of the 5 star accommodations. Well, Mary got the last laugh when the show was cancelled due to poor ticket sales. People wanted Mary and Cindy there too, hence the lack of public interest. Instead of introducing a new generation to the Supreme's music, Diana's greed resulted in a flopped tour. It had to be tough on her big ego. It is just such a shame that she sullied the Supemes name because of her actions.

It was never meant to be a reunion. It was about Diana paying homage to The Supremes. In concerts she' d usually sing a medley of Supremes songs rather than the songs in their entirety. This tour it was decided that The Supremes years would get a bigger focus and that Diana would sing Supremes songs that she doesn't often perform. The promoters suggested that they hire Mary & Cindy for this segment. Mary turned down $4 million, wanting the same as Diana. Mary's ego & delusion must be huge!

Thank you, Bonnie. The Supremes consisted of Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson, and Diana Ross. Not just Diana. I loved the three of them together. Levi Stubbs was the best male singer at Motown he didn't disregard the original tops, Obie, Lawrence and Duke, now that's integrity and respect. He was offered a solo deal his answer was if it's not for the fellows it's not for me. All of you speaking ill of Mary, join a group and allow everyone to ignore you and act as though you're not even there on stage and minimize everything you do to nothing and look deep within your heart and answer honestly that you wouldn't feel some type of way. Proof was in failure of ticket sales people wanted Mary and Cindy there as well. They all contributed.

I'm not trying to sound mean here, but for me Diana Ross was always the Supreme supreme, she had that voice, she had the charisma the looks the superstar X-factor.. I honestly was never interested in who was backing her up, I only wanted to see her then & I only want to see her now... I'm more than happy for a couple of "supremes" extras to be thrown in for nostalgia but as long as there's Diana's voice, the songs will always be legit. I'm not saying that Mary, Flo or Cindy weren't brilliant in their own right, they were, but Diana Ross is the one still standing after all these years, so surely she must be due some respect for her longevity alone! Mary's book did feature her relationship with Diane and what happened to the Supremes and Mary revealed that she there were things good and bad that she didn't put in her books. The fans wanted to see Mary Diane and Cindy reunite and perform live. Mary revealed that she didn't say no to the final offer which was between 5 and 6 million she was told by the promoter that he would have to check with Diane and the next day Mary was told the train left the station. Mary wanted her Diane to settle their differences and work as a team with Cindy. I can't recall how it came up, but buddies and I agreed that we would put on a sequin gown and sing "baby, baby" for a lot less! If you knew these guys it's quite a funny and scary vision! No disrespect intended. I love all of the Supremes and had tix to RTL in Boston which was cancelled. Anthony Smith Mary didn't let Diana do anything back in the sixies apparently you didn't know or don't know that each of those girls had and equel turn at singing lead, they kept going from one to the other trying to score a hit now that's the facts and finally it came time for Diana to lead again and they were given baby love a left over song on the Motown rouster that no one liked not even the Supremes all the other artists past on it they where the no hit Supremes so Berry Gordy made them sing it because they where at the bottom and had no choice ,and it was Diana's turn to lead and baby love became a monster hit for the Supremes and the rest is history. They never looked back again , so Mary let Diana shine us a bunch of crock. Berry said why would you try to fix a wheel that's not broken .Berry has said the girls would come from a concert and Berry wanted them to go into the studio and record new music , Mary & Flourance would very often say to Berry they were tired and would go home while Diana would go on in tired or not and do the recording anyway..So Mary let what and this kept going on so Berry finally said the other girls are not as fervent as Diana , so that why he( Berry) decided Diana is showing in her actions that she is willing to work, and work hard to be a star so Berry decided to eventually make Diana a solo star and staying in the group is really not fare to Diana who's willing to work to be star , even a solo performer and the rest is history. So I ask again Mary let Diana do what ? O and a note: Berry said to Mary as late as when Berry did his stage version of the Motown story he said ("l can hear your voice lessions have finally paid off after all these years.") " You're staying on note now." So I asked 1 more time Mary let Diana shine where?

The audience expected Diana, Mary and Cindy to sing, not Diana and some 70's Supremes and because of the lack of appeal of Diana singing along with these 70's members (MEANING that Diana decided to go on with this concept) there is some talk about the "hate" and resentment between Diana and Mary.

The miscalculation was that the ticket prices were too high for what was being presented. i understand the cost of the orchestra and the additional back-up singers, and other overhead, etc. but there wasn't enough interest by the public in an arena level tour just to hear extra Supremes songs sung in their entirety. The drama that could have been created with a real reunion......albeit one with Cindy, who never sang on any big hit the group had.......might have sold more tickets. But Mary had her own agenda, valid or not, short-sighted or not and Diana and the promoters made their move with the other former Supremes.....great singers, yes, but the public was not interested in the singing as much as they were in the reunion.....which never happened. i had tickets for a cancelled show and drove to the venue and was turned away. Didn't get the news that it was cancelled in time.

MARY WAS DISRESPECTED AND SHE DID NOT WANT TO GO BACK TO BEING DISRESPECTED ALL OVER AGAIN. SHE WAS A GROWN WOMAN NOW WITH HER OWN CAREER AND HER OWN FANS. IF THEY WANT DIANA ROSS AND THE SUPREMES(AS AN AFTER THOUGHT) LET THEM DO IT WITH SOMEBODY ELSE. ABD THE WHOLE SHOW FOLDED AS IT SHOULD HAVE. " THE SUPTEMES" SHOULD HAVE BEEN TREATED WITH DIGNITY.AND RESPECT.

It was the chemistry THEY produced Together, with each individual part just as important and attractive! The efforts were deliberate to blur that out to focus on ONE, which rightfully COULD'VE been EITHER ONE of them. HOLLYWOOD focused on Flo! MOTOWN flirted with focus on MARY, and it's Evident in many pictures and stagings! Berry focused on Diana! They could've and should've ALL been Stars, because that's what they WERE! 😉

This is a concert that should have never taken place. Mary and Cindy should have been there...period. A tribute should have been made to Flo. The Supremes are not the Supremes without Mary (the quintessential Supreme). And, Diana....she's not the singer she once was. She has lost the magic. Sorry. But, Diana made a grave mistake by leaving out the REAL Supremes. I'm glad the concert eventually failed.
