Diana Ross performed at the iconic Kennedy Center in Washington DC on January 9, 2020. Singing songs from her amazing music book, she gave her fans some of their most beloved and favorite music and among them was this gem, "Voice of the Heart." She dedicated it to one of her biggest fans who was sitting in the front row of her show and it became one of the highlights of the evening.

I was at the Friday night 1/10 show at the Kennedy Center. When I bought my tickets, I thought "if dreams come true maybe Diana will sing "Voice of the Heart". I hardly believed it possible, but dreams did come true. I recorded it too. I have that moment forever, now! A song too long unsung!!

What's up John D. I agree with you. Yes, all 11 songs from the Take Me Higher CD were lit, including two or three of them that did not make the North American release, but were part of the European release or single releases, like "Too Many Nights". The Take me Higher CD was FIRE. Her best CD collaboration after the Diana CD in 1980 and the Boss CD from 1979. This 1995 CD was a GEM!

@@gmoneyhollywood4116 Too Many Nights is a great song that got zero airplay in the US. You Make Me Feel Like I've Never Loved A Man Before, Voice of The Heart, and Only Love Will Conquer All are the songs that I love most of all on this album. They are among the best songs she ever recorded. It is unfortunate that she has limited her current sets only to her Supremes stuff and certain songs from her 70s and very early 80s material. She has some gems from her 70s repertoire that she doesn't sing anymore. And some nice ones from the late 80s and 90s too.

@@FallacyAsPraxis, yes, you are right on that tip as well.You are right about the cuts you mentioned from Take Me Higher. However, you left off Don't Stop, If You Are Not Gonna Love Me Right, and Let Somebody Know. Some of her 70s music that she does not perform anymore is No One Gets The Prize, Baby Its Me, and Something on My Mind. From the 80s, she should sing Have Fun Again, Tenderness, Friend to Friend, My Old Piano, which were all from the Diana, 1980 CD. My Old Piano was a huge hit in the UK. It reached #5 on the Pop charts there. She doesn't perform Dirty Looks, Swept Away, Eaten Alive, Muscles, or Let's Go Up. You are right. Her catalog is so huge that she would rarely have to perform the same songs at the majority of her shows. The Everyday is a New Day CD, was really on point as well. Ross went back to her true R&B roots off that one. I don't think the USA was ready for that and was confused on what to do with her music since she was known as the Queen of Soft Pop Ballads. I don't think that she realizes and understands that who come to see her in concert are her true die heart fans, so we are familiar with about 95% if not more, of her entire catalog. The songs that were not commercial success from the charts perspective, we were and are familiar with them, and we liked them, so she needs to consider her fans more and step out of her comfort zone. We are supposed to be so instrumental to her. Don't get me wrong, I love Ross, but she needs to diversify and share with us some of the less popular Gems that did not resonate with commercial radio, but it resonated with us fans. Her catalog is sick. It is ridiculously awesome. I'm glad that I know better. Nevertheless, she's my favorite female artist of all-time. I know we only have her possibly for another year or so in tour. I would like her to pull out all the stops as long as she is physically and mentally capable to her standards to perform. On another note, playing double standard, I do however thinks she needs to rest after 2020 so her body, soul, and mind can recover. The kind of schedule she is keeping is very taxing and that's even for someone in there 30's. ROSS is a warrior. I don't know how she does it. Simply Amazing! WHAT A STAR!

I am not fond of this particular performance because l feel the Background is to high at the Beginning and Diana key is way Low then she's trying to scream over Background?? you can barely hear Diana! Tone it Down in the beginning Background singers!:l notice they Got Lower towards end and ending. Nice to hear A different song than the regular setlist she been using since 2010.

@@AGNETHAFALTSK0G Remember when she was with the Supremes singing My World is Empty and Flo and Mary was drowning Diana out😲 Finally Somebody Lowered the mics of Flo and Mary so we Could Hear Diana Light but Pretty vocals.Diana voice was so Pretty in 1965 on My World..but in a turned up Flo and Mary. Cindy was no threat to Diana. Flo and Mary was when it came to Volume. As proved in More.You could hear Mary wailing and Flo and Diane going Toe to Toe!

You are right, she is definitely singing in a different key; however, after a few lines, she finally gets back to the right key. I believe that's the first time I've heard this happen with her actually being in a different key than the musicians.

This is not an easy song to sing. If you listen to the original studio recording you will note that the verses begin in low key then the register increases in the pre-chorus, and it increases again in the chorus. And, after the bridge, the chorus goes up a whole octave than it was previously sung after each of the verses. The performance sounds a bit off key because Diana is trying to sing the song close to the styling of the original recording, but the band and the backup singers seem to be doing something else. The 'adjustment' you hear is because she hears the dissonance through her in-ear monitor and adjusted her singing to match up with the music and the backup singers. She hasn't performed this song in many years. Maybe they didn't rehearse it enough. Still, its great to hear her sing it again.

Yes, the band is playing the score each musician was given, plus as a collective group, they are paying attention to the conductor (band leader)

Wow go Ms. Ross I just new it was still there deep down she sounds just we've known her to sound I just gonna say if you know anything about singing at all there are times when medically you just have cool your jets some times to avoid damaging the voice . And this is my personal thinking and I don't have to be right but I bet I am , I think Diana's Dr. told her to cool it for a while because Diana's been singing for some sixty years now and when you stop singing or when you're singing this length of time the voice muscles is just like any other muscle it too needs a break so I believe Diana's Dr. Told her to cool it down for a while to and now she been given the green light to sing as she's known for and wow she's attacking these songs again that just me so don't listen to me I'm telling you now I have not talked to anyone about anything . But I do know a lil bit about the voice and important it is not to damage the voice. Sometimes professionally a person may have to completely stop singing all together, sometimes permanently sometimes temporary.
