I have always been fascinated by Diane de Poitiers! Princess Michael of Kent (who is a descendant of Diane) wrote a fascinating biography about her titled "The Serpent and the Moon". Thank you for shedding more light on her!

The power Diane de Poitiers had over HenrI II has always fascinated me. I must say that Catherine de Medici was far more gracious to Diane than Diane was to François's outgoing mistress, Anne de Pisseleu! Or was she? Chenonceau is one hell of a jewel to lose and I've heard that The Chateau of Chaumont was considered unlucky. Thanks for another great video!

Amazing video as always!! The king was actually quite enamored by Diane from and early age and she was his chief mistress until his death. Much to the queens distress, she was given the idyllic Château de Chenonceau (The ladies Palace) which was seized by the envious Dowager Queen Catherine de Medici, however Diane was not threatened by the Queen. He actually wore Diane’s colors during the joust, black and white. Queen Catherine also would not have allowed Diane to visit King Henri on his deathbed. She maintained her youthful appearance with false teeth and wigs much like other nobles of the day. She also dabbled with drinking gold in the final years of her life, scientists exhumed her in 2009, 443 years after her death and found high levels of gold in her hair. I hope you enjoy these fun facts :”)

I have been fascinated by Diane for years particularly for her contribution to the beauty of Chenonceau by adding the breathtaking addition over the River Cher. It's not the largest chateau in the Loire valley area, but it is certainly the most beautiful imo. Thank you for this.

This was such a detailed, informative run down of Diane de Poitiers’ history. Through ancestry I learned I am actually a descendant of hers. She is my 16th great grandmother. It is genuinely amazing to learn where our families originate from and to be able to watch, listen, and read about the history is so great. Thank you!

She was a truly remarkable woman of her time. Very graceful, elegant and athletic for her age. She asked the king to spend more time with his wife. She even took care of the education of the royal children. She was king's confidant and hunting companion. Thank you for sharing about her.

I love this video so much because it really gave me a new perspective of Diane de Poitiers. I knew that she was a mistress but now I wonder was she really a mistress or was she just a very influential friend of Henri II? She was after all a devout Catholic. So many questions about her life but that really is the beauty of the story is it not? I wonder if Madame de Pompadour was influenced by her? Thank you for this interesting video. It was a treat to the mind.

Diane & Catherine were actually related, maternally - despite their mutual rivalry, they worked together when it appeared Henri was getting too serious about another mistress- & she encouraged him to spend time with Catherine - if Henri had annulled his marriage to her (as he’d been advised to in the earlier years of their marriage, where it appeared she might have been barren [she wasn’t, but it was a bit awkward]), she would not likely have had any influence with another wife - those are strong reasons for the pair to show at least nominal support to one another

When you said Diane was made Duchesse de Valentinois I suddenly remembered that none other than Cesare Borgia was made Duc de Valentinois by Louis XII. I wonder how Diane felt sharing the same title that monster had been given? Probably didn't bother her as all she wanted was money. Great post!

Her husband Louis de Breze was known as the ugliest man at court Dianne popularized the collor green among the ladies at court btw Agnes Sorell was known as Dame de Beaute and had a castle known as Chattou de Beaute Agnes popularized the plunging neckline well she actually let one of her breasts show and a lot of ladies started emulating it Dianne herself used a lot of cosmetics to help her whit her looks because she knew how fickle the King's favor was (will you talk about Agnes Sorell at some point)

The court intrigue is truly amazing…but then, when the king had absolute power and could gift whatever he wanted, within reason, to important people in his life; it’s understandable why court “residents” would fall over backwards to be in the king’s (sometimes queen’s) graces.
