A lady who takes the uncomplicated way to plant, I love it. You read so much about planting zinnias, and how complicated folks make it. You just dive in and bam zinnias galore. Never can argue with a fine lady who doesn't mind getting her hands dirty. Your the best/wishes to you.

Diane: A very inexpensive and quick way to find out if your seeds are viable. Plus it works every time you try this method. Seeds will fool you. I had some Rutgers tomato seeds from 1988 that I planted last year and almost every one came up. Nice video as usual! Bernard

Never had any experience with Zinnias until last year. Right in the middle of my tomato row a plant started coming up. I didn't know if it was a weed but it definitely wasn't a Rutgers tomato. I let it go to see what it was. It grew to be taller than my tomatoes and was the most beautiful pinkish/purple Zinnia. I had to look it up to see what it was. It brought in butterflies, bees, hummingbirds and other things that loved them. I am a huge fan of Zinnias now and your video was very inspiring. I will have many more of them next year. I already bought the seeds. ;-)

I absolutely love insects and gardening. My favorite part of summer is the butterflies and the gardening. I couldn't find zinnias in any of the local nurseries for years so I decided that I was going to have to take charge this year. I am growing a tall and a short variety. My short ones are Pinwheel mix which are about 1 foot tall, and Purple Prince which are 3 feet. I started seeds in a jiffy greenhouse and am growing 25 of each variety. Its only been 4 days since I planted the seeds and I've already gotten sprouts in 20 out of 25 Purple Prince pots and my pinwheels are just starting to get roots! I can't wait till they get their first seed leaves. Now I have a question: What suggestions do you have for somebody who does not have any grow lights? Should I use a window and rotate the tray everyday? Any other ideas? Thanks Diane you have a lovely channel and a beautiful garden!

I hope you see this and help me! My little girl (Kindergarten) was learning about plants this year. We live in SC. So they are still in the little cup she brought them home in for mother's day. Ok, they have really grown tall, one is almost a foot. I have to repot? I have NO idea what I am doing. Wasn't born w a green thumb (I could kill a cactus). How do you put them in a pot when they are this tall???

Where did you purchase the orange king lion zinnia seeds from? I LOVE them and would love to try them. I have found though that varieties can vary from each distributor. Love your video!! Going to try out the paper towel method. I think it will be so much fun for my kids!!

I wanted to start from seed and I'm definately going to try the paper towel method. Thank you so much. I don't have a heating mat but I do have a heating pad -- like you put on your body. I don't know if that is sufficient also I don't have grow lights but I do have lamps that I can use. Please let me know if these are sufficient. Thanks again -- you have helped me tremendously!

nappynew I always say use what you have but if you find the light is not enough and you will now but leggy plants .. It doesn't cost much for a shop light and 2 40 watt bulbs, something you can use year to year. good luck!
