I don't recommend using drum sticks of any size on djembes. Djembes are usually made of thin skin. I recommend dunun if you want to use sticks.

From your 35 years of drumming history, what are the tools for checking if the drum lost tension? I've been hesitant to reply too. As two days ago, I’ve been using drumsticks on smaller djembes due to the quick tension loss from my son’s vigorous playing. It’s an unconventional approach, but it’s been a practical solution for us. . This has led to some unexpected sounds, which I’ve documented in a few videos. It’s a personal exploration rather than a challenge to conventional wisdom. If you ever have a moment, I’d be interested in your thoughts on these experiments.
