Okay, first of all, I would like to thank Korey, Martin, Korey G, and Grits for reviewing Diary of a Wimpy Kid 4: The Long Haul. I would like to apologize to the toasties who found this review to be underwhelming. I could care less if the guys hated the movie, but the reason why this review feels so bland, inoffensive and formulaic is because Korey is a grown man who never read the book that this movie is based on. I read the book, but I haven't seen the movie so I couldn't compare it to the book and talk about if I liked the changes in detail. Ever since I was 17 years old, I know the majority of Spillos wanted me to review the 4th Wimpy Kid movie with Korey and talk about how faithful it was to the novel. I'm sorry this hasn't taken place yet. The reason why this hasn't occurred is because this movie was released four days ago for critics and Korey never offered me a chance to review Diary of a Wimpy Kid 4: The Long Haul with him to begin with. Korey, I'm sorry that you and the rest of the guys found little redeeming value with the movie, but, thanks for reviewing the movie as always.

@@icecreamhero2375 its not strange, its called adaptation. Changes are good and necessary b/c book writing and screen writing are VERY different. Strange beast harry Potter series isn't good b/c Rowling wrote the movie like a book. Major changes are needed especially when society climates shift constantly every 10 years. Good example is The Boys being nothing like the books, it's not edgy without purpose and adapted for the current generations

I went to go see DoaWK Long Haul yesterday with my little cousin and I thought it was gonna be really bad, worse than the Zachary Gordon trilogy, but it was kinda good, new cast but same concept and style of the previous films of Greg getting embarrassed and trying to cover it up by becoming popular. The film had me laughing most of the time, especially at Roderick being dumber than the previous films and the scene where the Beardo guy chases Greg on the spinning ride, but yeah... this should have been an animated film (as it should have been), shouldn't have replaced the actors of Roderick, Mom, Dad as they still look the same today, but overall it was ok, but if there's any sequels, it needs to be an animated film as every character seemed silightly nervous or unsure of what they were saying in the film. Plus it's been said it's not a reboot, its a sequel continuation of Dog Days

Diary of a Wimpy Kid 4: The Long Haul is a reboot of the original Diary of a Wimpy Kid trilogy and yet this movie is closer to what I was hoping the first movie would be. Zachary Gordon was a great choice to play Greg Heffley in the first movie, but due to bad writing and directing, Zachary played Greg as an egotistical, hypocritical, and mean middle school student so it was hard for me to see Greg’s caring and helpful side from the novels. Here, Jason Drucker plays Greg Heffey as a kid who is more caring and helpful than he is selfish. Charlie Wright plays Greg’s older brother Rodrick as a teen who’s more caring and less insane and mean. Other than that, Diary of a Wimpy Kid 4: The Long Haul is another heaping helping of everything fans loved about the previous two sequels, this reboot has a great story, charming performances, hilarious slapstick humor, bright directing, fun visuals, and a wonderful message about the value of family and the importance of perseverance. Thanks to author Jeff Kinney for finally writing the screenplay with director David Bowers. However that being said, the novel and the script looses a bit of the originality of the previous three movies because this movie shares some similarities to Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day but the novel and the movie continues to be very enjoyable. 4 out of 5 stars.
