My favorite is the rule book wording for this aspect. Everyone would echo "Simultaneous Divine Blessings!" or "Divine Blessings!" and THEN get to roll the dice. It was great.

I also played this at Geekway, and I was really pleased with the low downtime by rolling dice. I was lucky enough to play this as one of my first games on Thursday, and I shared my enjoyment with everyone that asked about it. Not only are the dice big and chunky and fun to hold, but you get to roll them A LOT throughout the game. I would definitely play this again and again. It was one of the top 5 in the Play & Win that I wanted to play, along with Sagrada (honestly, somewhat disappointed by that one), Aeon's End (phenomenal), Euphoria (which I didn't get to play), and Rhino Hero Super Battle (which I LOVED).

One of my friends mentioned how much he enjoyed Rhino Hero Super Battle--I need to try it! And while I haven't played Aeon's End, I'm really looking forward to the legacy version I backed.

Space Base is somewhat similar although only one person rolls, everyone gets the results based on their base. Instead of being personalized from each person rolling their customized dice, you get stuff as a result of where you set up your base's ships.

Do you think modifiable dice faces is something we will see more of in the future or is it too difficult to manufacture?
@jameystegmaier6 жыл бұрын
I doubt it. As innovative as they are, it's frustrating to pop the pieces in and out. My fingers and fingernails are all torn up from playing yesterday!

That's why you use another face to pop them off

I guess "Roll to the Top" is all about rolling dice every go and all players use the same dice result. Yet everyone still makes different choices as to how to use the dice. It's a quick, easy, fun game.

Roll for the galaxy comes to mind but I'm not sure if it's an exact fit

I think that works! Though players take simultaneous turns in that game.

Seasons is an exact fit i think

Another great result of allowing players to roll dice every turn is that it greatly increases player engagement without any increase to complexity. In general, games that take advantage of players having some investment in every turn are able to justify longer turns. I can't think of another game where each player rolls dice every turn, but for broader examples of this principle, Cosmic Encounter without allies or Catan without getting resources every turn would both be painfully boring for non-main players.

I agree, the resulting player engagement is really high.

No dice, but some smaller examples of getting stuff on other players turns: Getting power in Terra Mystica because they build next to you, in Concordia when someone produces stuff in a region, your buildings there produce too, there are cards in Stone Age where everyone gets something, and you can get bumped and get basically a free action in Hansa Teutonica. I think these are better than just always rolling dice on your opponents turn, because they are interactive, you don't just automatically get it every turn, you have to plan around it. You can also get bumped in Dice Forge and immediately get something. Helpers in Charterstone come to mind too.

I don't like bad luck with dice rolling, but in this game you roll a lot of dice and one particular bad roll won't drag you down. Also you're mostly looking after your own dice, so you won't envy other players for their luck. I played Stone Age recently and did I feel to be constantly dragged down by bad rolls, seeing that the other players seemed to roll a lot better than me.
@jameystegmaier6 жыл бұрын
That's a great point about how it mitigates luck by rolling so often.

Not exactly the same, but in Machi Koro and Villages of Valeria, one player rolls dice every turn but everyone gets resources based on what was rolled and the player's own tableau.
@jameystegmaier6 жыл бұрын
That's true! Though I think it's more fun if you're the one rolling the dice. :)
