The whole roster is getting one of these. It's just taking me longer than I'd like to get them all done.

Great video! Samurai is a character that I don’t personally like playing that much, but I do have tremendous respect for him. I think having that average, easy to play benchmark character is really important, and a lot of games forget about it.

I don't think is that easy I mean it says 3 of 6 difficulty but it's funny because with samurai u can't be greedy with rolls

It's coming. Vampire Lord is next, and the intent is to hit all existing heroes prior to the release of XDT. Glad you enjoyed it!

That makes sense! It's a fantastic game to play casually with friends and has the depth to deliver a really rewarding competitve experiance. Huge fan.

Hey! im a new player about to get into the game for the first time and picked up the season 2 starter. I immediately wanted to main Samurai just because "he looks sick!" hahah. The takeaway from your video has been that hes going to be great for me to start on, but is he worth investing time in to try and get very good with? or will he always sort of pull up short in competitive play. cheers!

There's a lot to your question. Let me try to answer it in parts. First, DT is a very well balanced game. While there are some heroes who feel stronger or weaker, overall every hero has a decent shot at winning every matchup. The most polarized matchups in the game, like Pirate VS Elf, are still only around 55% favored for Pirate. In my opinion. I mention this because I think it's important to not allow the "torunement meta" too much influance over your play choices. Next, I come from a tcg background. And I have always encouraged people to bring the deck they are most comfortable with to the tournament. In my opinion, you'll tend to do better with a deck(hero) that you actually enjoy playing than you will just by playing the "best" thing because that's what everyone is doing. Every hero in DT has strengths and weaknesses. In the case of Samurai, his strength is consistency. He very reliably does what you expect him to do. This comes at the cost of flexibility. He does not have have the same variety of options as other heroes, so he can be a bit predictable. This is not a competitive deal breaker. If you want to pilot Sam in a tourney setting I think you need to focus on your game plan. You know what Sammy wants to do, so how does he get there in each matchup? I'd spend time play testing against the heroes I expect to show up at that event. I'd drill down on learning when the best time for each of my moves is, and get a solid feel for what cards need to be sold in what matches. Samurai doesn't have a "door closer" power. Shadow Theif builds to an end state then kills you with a big ult or straight. Pyro just races you down. Samurai is not a build up (control) hero nor a beatdown race (agro) hero. He's a midrange hero who needs to focus on decent dmg output plus decent dmg prevention. But let's be clear, all of these archetypes have weaknesses. A control player can make one wrong choice out of fifty and lose the game. The agro player can be out of gas and relying on luck by turn 3. Samurai is well rounded in his strengths and weaknesses. If you play to your strengths and know your matchups you can find success in a tourney setting. However, it is also true to say that Sam has some tough matchups where his kit isn't going to solve the problems for you. As a pilot you're going to need to stay calm and make some meaningful choices under pressure. Now, part of the Sammy's kit helps you with that cognitive load. By using consistency as his primary weapon, your choices will tend to be muscle memory. What are your goals in competing? If you want to just collect as many Ws as possible as fast as possible, then looking to the tourney meta could be useful. But if you want to take the hero you think is coolest and collect Ws with that... Well that's awesome. Arguably cooler than being the 1000000th person to win an event with Thor. In summary, I do not think you are wasting your time by focusing on Samurai. Every hero you learn makes you better as a player. Sometimes our goals for a tournament force us to play heroes that aren't our favorite. That's OK. But it's also OK to play your favorite even when it isn't "meta." Hope that helps!

@TheBuildPhase hey thanks for the reply mate! Really great response. I honestly am not even sure how many tournaments I would take part in! I just think about these things when picking up games "in case" I do hahah. So it sounds like samurai is a good starting point, and if I want to stick with him it's not a waste! Cheers for the advice
