One thing I learned about the MTG color philosophy is that, villainy exists in each color, and it's usually when an excess of that color's philosophy exists. Which is why we have characters like Baral, Elesh Norn, and Tibalt, and also why we have good characters like Yahenni

I like how you portray each color from its own perspective. What you've written now read to us comes across very well as if you were playing clerics of each color. Great way of discussing this concept of the MTG color pie. When I think about this and study each color, as well as taking the color pie quiz, I find that the colors that resonate the most with me are White, Blue and Green. I get that we all have aspects of all five in us, but some seem to feel more accurate to how we see ourselves, or how we have behaved in the past. When I do that, I see that my worldview is most like that of White, but that sees a good deal of value in the viewpoints of Blue and Green. I'm fascinated with the curiosity, technology and innovation of Blue as well as with the traditions, natural beauty and interdependent systems of Green. I find the selfishness and greed of Black and the impulsiveness and chaos of Red to be unattractive to me, even though I recognize that everyone has moments when they want to behave more like those colors. I have to admit that Black's point of view is more than a little like the INTJ personality type which is the type that I usually test as. Blue is too and it's almost like Black is the 'dark side' of INTJ while Blue is the 'light side'. INTJs are usually driven to succeed at long-term goals and find the obstacles that get in the way of those goals to be annoying or even infuriating. INTJs also sometimes have a pessimistic and skeptical aspect to them that seems to be epitomized by Black. It also sees other people as either tools or resources who might aid in achieving one's goals, or as obstacles to be avoided or overcome. INTJs usually have little in common with Red's outward expressions of emotion and focus on feelings. INTJs are not impulsive since they usually study and analyze everything as long as possible before taking action. INTJs often ignore the wants and needs of their bodies in favor of what's going on in our minds. We do sometimes wish that we could act on our intuition or gut feelings more like Red does. In those rare, unguarded moments when we feel comfortable or confident enough to set our fears aside, we can be more artistic, romantic and yes, even outwardly emotional than we usually are. We have all of that bottled up inside, encased in our logic-driven, 'robotic' exterior that we use as armor to protect ourselves from possible emotional or physical pain. When I play MTG, I usually choose White, Blue or Green as my main colors. The first deck I bought was a White deck because I liked the way that it fits in with the Lawful Good Cleric that I usually play in roleplaying games.

I resonate with your color choices heavily. After the test I received the judgement of Bant, which definitely coincides with my view of the world. I also have received INFJ in my Myers-Brigg test, and I'm more partial to red than I am to black. Although exploring the color pie and looking at characters like Kaya, I can understand black having it's own role in what makes us human. It's a wonderfully designed system.

@@BoinkadelicJones Thanks for replying! Red has some interesting cards for sure. I've tried playing it using cards borrowed from people I'm playing with. Some of the cards have interesting and fun effects. The philosophy of Black seems to fit the 'dark side' of my personality better. Usually though, when I'm playing games, I prefer to play characters that are more on the 'lawful good' side. I feel a little uneasy playing 'evil' characters.

Single color? Blue for sure. I ended up an engineer so that's right on! DiceTry, great compilation video! Question for you- what would white think of an E-Democracy? By which I mean a society in which everyone has the right to directly vote on most laws and can do so very quickly and easily? On the one hand I can imagine White might view it as "too many voices, not enough certainty". But on the other hand, I can see it appreciating the certitude of everyone agreeing on a course of action and pursuing it as one society.

I think a benevolent white version would like it as it is good for us all to participate but an evil white wouldn't as those are usually dependant on more fascist leadership

I relate to White the most, but mainly on the utmost importance of morality, not on the absence of free will. Speaking of which, I would like to see versions of Boros and Orzhov which emphasize the importance of mixing morality & freedom/autonomy.

Did you cover what a black mana utopia would look like? It almost sounds incoherent when i type it out. Your ability to empathize with such different perspectives is fantastic. A favourite definition of evil is the motivation to benefit from causing suffering and i can see how all the colours could have very evil people expressing an evil motivation with a single colour. Peace is perhaps most easily and quickly achieved by causing terror and conformity. Knowledge from causing suffering is why we have the First Aid knowledge we do. Black mana seems a little obvious. And with impulse, many benefits our impulses might guide us to cause suffering. And if instinct is the impulses of tradition, the same sort of evil as red makes sense but with the veneer of the so-called objectivity of nature. As a neat parallel, my doctoral research dealt in part with the competing motivations in constructive mathematics. It is not a sufficient guide to just want a constructive proof of a mathematic theorem. You also have to decide if you want your mathematics to be computable or extensional [but not both since you would become a classical mathematician.] And depending on these choices you can end up constructing wildly different mathematical structures found no where else.

Black mana utopia is where individual ambition prevails over nature and conformity. It is perhaps an artist's dream land, or an explorer's: an environment where everyone is so self-competent that they do not impede eachother's work, and where everyone is self-sufficient. Like Red this could be a small community like a tribe, or a ship with like-minded friends. Everyone is free to be able to learn from eachother and apply it to their own growth. This would be a Black mana utopia that is more closely aligned to Red. If this "ship" would be able to compete with others and reign supreme over the "seas" (like a pirate ship) then Black's desire for domination would be sated. A Black mana utopia more closely aligned to Blue would be where a select few are able to operate the resources of many; perhaps a classical slaver's paradise. Though perhaps the slaves could be automatons instead, if the people in power would not want to harm the autonomy of their kin. If they do not care regardless, or have a view of discrimination (White), then this society could view some as having the right to have authority over others, thus enslaving those with lesser authority. In that case Black's desire for domination would be sated. This would be a static environment, but with incredible resources to fulfill Black's need to pursue personal ambition.

The main reason is that Cobra Kai is literally about how different philosophies interact with each other. I feel like a color analysis would be great. Love your content, so keep up the great work!!!

Star Trek's Federation sounds like an example of White's utopia, minus the widespread atheism. Synthesizers have largely replaced the need for resources and manual labor, resulting in a huge leisure class that works because they want to, not because they have to.

I absolutely love this video! It gets the question flowing through my mind... What would planes of only one color look like? Like if we were to visit a plane and there were no other colors other than one. They probably wouldn't be perfect, as balance requires all the colors or at least more than one, but it would be cool to visit o.o
