Dick Butkus was the most ferocious player ever to step on a football field. He didn't try to tackle a guy, he tried to bury him. Deacon revolutionized the position of defense end.

Two of my favorite football players when I was growing up... I got to meet Butkus long after he was retired. They were both mean ON the field, but few are/were classier OFF the field...

I grew up loving both of these guys as NFL players. David "Deacon" Jones was awarded outstanding defensive down lineman in both 1967 and 1968 by the NFL players association. Dick Butkus, also an unmatched icon of NFL power who helped shape the stance of defensive importance, makes me appreciate this video even more. One word describes both of these football players: Studs.

I used to watch Deacon Jones and he was an amazing football player and larger than life. Though we miss him, he's now playing football again with the other legends in Football. And being a Lions fan, I used to watch in fascination as Dick Butkus destroy football players on the field. Some of the most devastating hits I've ever seen over the decades belong to Dick Butkus.
