This channel began in 2009 and I've been checking FOR YEARS ... patiently waiting for Dick Contino to be featured ... and now after all these years, this is the 3rd video I've seen. ONE of these 3 videos was public AT FIRST and then changed to UNLISTED !! Why ? I still have the link and view it from time to time. Dick was one of Ed's favorite performers ! MORE Contino please ...

I don't know why all these old Dick Contino videos have started surfacing, but I'm here for it. Keep them coming, please.

Thanks for this..unique (?) accordion jam fest on Ed’s show…I wonder what Bobby Gentry thought? He was an excellent accordion player. Have a great day!

Nothing like a jaunty interpretation of a song about suicide.

Dick appeared 48 times on the show and this channel has featured just a few of his appearances. His first appearance was in 1950 and this performance in 1967 was his final performance. Ed LOVED Dick ...

Slight disconnect between that dude's attitude and the song he's playing.

As an Istrumentalist our song choices are not necessarily based on lyrics. I rarely choose a song because of the lyrics. Look at it this way ... the lyrics are only meaningful if in a language you understand... if not, all you have is the melody. Do you think Jazz players are strictly thinking lyrics when performing a 6 minute improvised version of a 2 minute song ? Dick saw this as a cool melody that he could groove to with his squeeze - box !

I disliked these cornball cover numbers in my youth. Now, I appreciate the skill that goes into them --- but geesh.
