The first time I was truly exposed to a ripping guitar was one evening many years ago walking a long way home from the Buena Park Mall in California. On the way I was passing this building then named the "Retail Clerks Union" and Dick Dale and the DelTones were playing for the local high school crowd. The notes were ringing loud across the boulevard and stopped me dead in my tracks. I was 12 years old, now over 60, and his guitar still gets to me today. Hail to the master of the surf guitar!!
@mikem5978 жыл бұрын
Pat Notneeded Thanks for reminding me of the Retail Clerks. "Back then", my fend and I used to drive to one of three musical hot spots each week end: Retail Clerks, Harmony Park, or the Rendezvous (In Newport Beach). Great surf bands played. Dick Dale, Dave Myers...others. Great times were had by all !

One of a kind. Nobody plays like him. He was willing to feel the pain required to get the sound he wanted out of those piano strings. There are amazing guitar players, but only one Dick Dale. I’m very glad I got to meet him. RIP

I seriously miss him. I saw him 5 times, my favorite. He was a real nice guy too who would talk to his fans after the show, no celebrity ego at all, just a good friendly guy. His wife Lana is a beautiful and good hearted person as well. Thanks for sharing the video with us.

I was a kid in New Zealand in the sixties and my big brother used to throw me a few cents to wax his long board and make sure the girl next door didn't know where he was. these tunes were the sound track to those moments.

I knew he was left-handed but didn't realize his guitar is strung right-handed. I've got a neighbor who is a drummer but also plays a guitar exactly like Mr. Dale. It's amazing to see/hear it in person. Dick Dale...simply fantastic!

Steven Conrad Yes the Zooport Wedge in Balboa gets very big. It has some crazy shorebreak that can, has and will hurt and even kill NOT FOR THE BEGINNER TYPE TO GET WET OFTEN. Great bodysurfing not the best surfing with closeout board snapping barrels but on occasion big waves after surfing the Cali Pipeline/ The Point with the right swell direction though a deep channel can throw double overhead thick square barrels on fast waves with perfect shape. The sand on shore vibrates and is lined up with $$$$ cameras. Good Times and some of maybe the best barrels I ever had. Epic before surfline waking up to the roar and Supplies you check it and it is Amazing and uncrowded. Those days did not get much of a crowd in the water with the big size and THICK square barrels they can hit hard. Back around the time of the best OP PRO the last year they sold beer there. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpSUfICXfbpgp9U 1986 Good times aye Pigs

One of the very few guitar players that play with the bass string at the bottom. Amazing. As a lefty, he must have learned on right handed guitar, and just got used to playing that way. First surf songs I learned on guitar back in 60's were Dick Dale's The Wedge, Miserlou, Surf Beat, and The Victor. Got to meet him once thru my friend, whose brother gave Dick Dale surf lessons.
