so great to see all this again. My dad was Dickie's MD through the 70's and 80's up to his death. They toured all over the world and did many many cabarets and summer seasons together. This brings back such great memories of my childhood. There's no real variety left now, alas..

Thanks you so much for pointing me at this!!! Its so good to see it again. I am awestruck by the faultless timing and ingenious design behind this work.. a real comedy genius. So sad that we have so little record of it.

Yes, the "one for my baby" spoof was hilarious. I remember seeing it again some years ago on BBC so it must still be in existence somewhere in the vaults!

@diggerroo09 Nice to hear from you. I can tell you that Dickie was a MAJOR star in Britain in the early Sixties. Cool, casual and just plain nice.

Wish there was more of his talent on youtube. Saw him live at the double diamond night club in S.Wales. Met him back stage. Hope someone out there finds more vid's and puts them up for all to enjoy. Great Entertainer.

Yeah, the Sixties was wiped for a number of reasons (1) VT was EXPENSIVE (2) the boffins told the technicians recordings would fade (WRONG) and (3) renewing copyright clearance would have been a pain. Thus mostly only kinescopes exist today. Bob's accent was AFFECTED - whereas Dickie's was GENUINE. He spent much of his formative years Stateside, touring with his Dad. When I watched him, as a child - I thought he WAS American!

so much was wiped and lost forever except in the memories of those who watched .

Google "Orbit free downloader" (or any free downloader) - install it in your computer and follow the instructions. With it, you can download ANY KZbin video. Then you can play the file on your computer any time you want - or even convert it's format (try "Any Video Converter" - same as with Orbit) to standard DVD and play on your TV. You're welcome! Regards, Holden (actually, Mike).

So am I! On my dads side of the family but not completely sure of actual status.
@HoldenMcGroyne8113 жыл бұрын
@littlemisslizzielove Fair enough! I'm amazed no-one pulled me up for MISSPELLING his NAME! It's Dickie with an "ie" - not "y" (now corrected). KZbinrs are usually QUICK on matters like those! I always thought Dickie was AMERICAN, when I was young - but of course, he was ENGLISH. He just spent a lot of his time in America with his (English) Dad, during his formative years. His sitcom was a lot like Gary Shandling's was - but TWENTY-FIVE YEARS EARLIER!

so based upon what you told me, if I look at the picture I see when I google "ROSS SISTERS AT LONDON'S WATERLOO STATION" from left to right it would be Vicki, Betsy and Dixie. A really excellent picture of Dixie and Dickie with their children can be seen by googling: Dickie Henderson 15th August 1956. Apparently you are the child of one of the other sisters?

He was a funny guy, I think he was Canadian........His T,V, show with June Lavrey was funny.
@HoldenMcGroyne8110 жыл бұрын
June Laverick. He was actually born in England, of English parents - but he spent a lot of his formative years in America (touring with his Dad - a music hall performer) and adopted the accent. I used to love his early Sixties sitcom - very advanced for its day: Dickie would open the show with a monologue, which would set up the week's plot - then turn and walk into the set behind him, which would then light up - and do the episode, not breaking the fourth wall again. Surreal, even by today's standards...

The Dickie Henderson show ran from 1960 to 1968 on ITV around 116 shows but sadly it looks like they were all wiped, Dickie did tend to speak rather like Bob Monkhouse with a sort of Mid-Atlantic accent, he was very talented but it looks like his sit-comm work is all lost.
@HoldenMcGroyne8112 жыл бұрын
@AmberFudge1 Nope, sorry. This is the ONLY thing I have of Dickie H. He did MANY series eps, in the early sixties. But like most of the sixties, being on VT, they got WIPED. But at least I have the memories...
