You just opened my mind on a class of vintage films that are not in the usual movie archives. Thanks Fran! And about AI suggestions , just like adblock extensions, we need an AIBlock extension...

70s tech vs modern tech sounds interesting. especially if you can find random tech not just every day items.

Fond memories of the old high school shop safety films. They had spinning vortices when things went bad and fleeting (some very) graphic injury shots!

It's hilarious to me that the AI evidently couldn't "take a selfie" to come up with some slop for the thumbnail on "AI: Friend of Foe?" 🤣

It is funny. I think it's definitely misleading that the phrase is "couldn't create the thumbnail" when that is very unlikely to be the real explanation. More likely there are some limitations added to restrict content that people at KZbin/Google don't want to publish which prevented whatever image from being published. In all practicality, there's no reason why it wouldn't be able to create images of that other than that people have restricted the allowed output.

What a great point, that's hilarious

Ranting aside, I find the suggestions tool helpful. You just need to have a good idea in mind first. With your idea, it allows you to test if YT algorithm gonna promote your content and gives you suggestions what aspect of your idea gonna get more traction.

To see the rest of the description text that's cut off, use the developer tools in your browser. On Firefox (which everyone should be…), right click → Inspect. Then in the resulting panel, expand the item highlighted. The full text is shown in the child node. Alternately, clicking the panel takes you to a more fleshed-out version of the "idea", with an outline and suggested titles and such.

All those suggestions that the AI hated look very interesting to me and I'm sure most of your subs.

Beautifully selected film clips, Fran. Oh, and AI has no idea that 'makers' of things often have a store of stuff that represents things that are hard to source, can only be bought bulk, are used only occasionally etc. Thus, there is hoarding, collecting and sourcing.

Hoarding vs Collecting could be an interesting topic for a video but revealing the AI suggestions like this video does is more interesting and unique to this channel.

Considering how over the past month or so the comments I have posted under other people's videos have intermittently DISAPPEARED right after I post them, I would say _YuckTube's_ first[?] foray into A.I. has been 💩.

One of the things I like about Franlab is you don't use the now ubiquitous AI generated illustrations... The old educational films are fun to watch...

I am much more interested in the ideas labeled “low interest” than what the AI thinks is “best.” You are excellent at discussing the drawbacks of the algorithm in your infrequent rants, but that’s not what keeps me coming back; I want to hear about hoarding 1970s gadgets! (Edit: If anything, the “interest” metrics may indicate which ideas the algorithm will push to viewers more aggressively than others)

One obscure thing I like about these old films is that we're told that women were always in the kitchen and that's never truly been the case.

This is a test of the A.I. system. Before long, A.I. will be doing all of the videos and human input will no longer be viable. A.I. is generation hundreds of videos already. It's coming faster than you think.
