I think you'll enjoy it a lot more if you bring back the house curve... with the bass flat from the mains all the way down to 20hz it probably sounds very lean. i use a +12dB gradual rise that starts around 130hz and peaks around 40hz. If you have it flat and then just increase the sub level things will sound muddy but the gradual rise prevents that.
@TerminatorJuice Жыл бұрын
I don't doubt that that is good advice, but I can't go back to having to lower the volume during explosions or peak bass moments because of the large db difference between the subs and my mains. Also I'm not really a fan of tinkering with settings, and/or taking measurements, so I'm in talks with Andrew from home theater engineering about having him calibrate my system the next time he's in the US.
@miscreant1739 Жыл бұрын
@@TerminatorJuice Having a steady and smooth rise like I'm describing doesn't lead to a peaky sound because you need more SPL at lower frequencies to sound equal to less SPL at higher frequencies. If you try to fill a null by dumping a lot of power into it that can definitely lead to a peaky and unpleasant sound in my experience. I can turn up my system pretty loud where the low end bass is over 115dB and it still sounds great. If you're satisfied with what you hear now I can definitely understand not wanting to mess up a good thing - it's always a lot of effort to adjust things. I'm not familiar with Andrew but if you think he can help I'd definitely recommend it. There are also several guys that are willing to help remotely, some probably for free.

@@miscreant1739 I didn't really have any boosts going on with my EQ, because I heard that isn't worth trying to fix a little null that you ears more than likely aren't even going to notice. Also, Andrew is a 20 plus year certified calibrator, and seems like a straight shooter, so I'm going to talk with him and see what he says. I would think most people get or might get better results (& also from reading/listening to many HT Veterans more knowledgeable than I), with the subs in Opposite corners. My two Hsu subs are like that & Slam. One in the right front to the right of my TVs stand, inside my Right Polk RTiA9. The 2nd one is in the rear Left corner under a coffee table. - Hope you’re successful with your results!!
@TerminatorJuice2 жыл бұрын
I tested that with the Sealed subs, but lost the tactile bass that the ported sub provides, so that wasn't going to be worth it to me. So my final configuration is the two sealed subs up front and the ported sub in the rear, and that provided the best overall experience for me.

I’m absolutely the same way regarding optimizing for multiple seats. I know it’s an unpopular opinion, but I don’t host anyone often…I prefer to optimize my sound experience to my MLP with the wife to my right being great also. I don’t need even responses across multiple rows I ran my initial setup w two SB 3000s and loved it. I’ve recently upgrade to two GSG 21 yet to be built 😮

@@audfrknaveen2256 I don't get caught up in tweaking settings, so I only do it when I make a major change or additions to my gear...which doesn't happen very often. I'm not really the type of guy who gets excited about the gear or feel the need to upgrade all the time, so I'll probably take a very long break before I do anything major to my room.

Did you time align the subs with your minidsp before doing EQ? Also I get great results by flattening the sub response out to a frequency double that of the crossover.

How is the bass subjectively now ?? Is it tight and accurate with good transients for music?? Let's say drum beats in music, how punchy and accurate they sound?? And secondly how good is the tactile bass for movies ??

have you thought of putting that PB1000 right behind your seat for nearfield tactile response? i have a monoprice monolith 10 sub and could not get that deep bass i was looking for but once i put the sub nearfield right behind me i got that punch in the chest sound i was looking for. my monolith sub is sitting aprox 6 inches from the back of my couch seat and it feels good. ive read to have the distance between the front of the sub and back of seat no more than the diameter of the woofer driver to get the best response
@TerminatorJuice2 жыл бұрын
I thought about it, but only for about a minute, because it's not practical to have a subwoofer blocking the path to my back room.

By any chance did you try very near field? Like keeping the sub right behind your chair not more than 10-12" distance.

I think you got quite an upgrade there :) but you should be able to get a flatter response if play around with some manual PEQ filters after loading the REW filters. If I understood properly , you modified the subwoofer EQ to avoid the 60hz peak when playing mains+subs. If so, don’t do it cause your are messing the LFE channel response: it won’t be flat. If you don’t have the ability to tame that peak in the front channels via Audyssey or a second MiniDSP, let it be. In my room I have two 12” sealed subs, after level matching and time-alignment, I ran Audyssey and then I ran REW and did PEQ to get a flat response on the subs. I also got a peak in the 80hz region when playing sub+mains but I happily live with it. As per AVS sub calibration post, I boosted the subs by 9 dB, this way I got a nice tactile response never experienced before that left me with a big smile. You could try a second config tab in the minidsp and see how you like it.

Just going to throw this out to you. Not sure if you thought of this yet. I know you said you like ported boxes and I know that's what you got in the back of your room. You also said you wanted to stay under 16 inch high. You can always get the pb1000 and put them on there sides.

Are you running an AVR or separates? Have you considered an AVR or processor with Dirac (if you don’t already have one)? I keep hearing it makes a huge difference.

I have a Yamaha AVR and separate amps for my Atmos speakers. And I don't put much stock into room correction to be honest... But seeing that they are starting to allow you to see the measurements and tweak the results to your personal tastes, I'm way more interesting in the potential with room correction in the future.
