The short answer is no. Many are over there, many restaurants left, i just visited one restaurant that serves alligator. The key is gentrification works well when you own home not so much when you rent. Plenty black and Hispanic folks left near downtown but overall very different. My next video will be manor road.

Your right on Erika. The city is trying to tax me out into the street. I used to know everyone on our block but they couldn't afford to live here any longer. I'm on disability receiving $14,000 a year but right off the top I have to pay over $5000 in taxes. If nothing gets done we will be part of Austin's homeless. I've lived in East Austin for over 40 years. They want us out. Seniors, disabled, low income, have no place to go.

Your family is sitting on a goldmine. Development has and will continue to explode there- That is never a time to sell. They are actually offering a measly amount of what they know it is worth now (thinking you all are ignorant) and only 10th of a percent of current what Will be worth in 20 years. I know of a Mexican family that this very thing happened to. They lived in a tiny decrpit house near downtown Dallas in the late 80s- South Dallas (drug and crime ridden). It still has large areas that are a slum today. However, where that house was located(Harwood st), and is undergoing a huge revamp. There are now lavish condos built. Hence,You have to have a very high income to buy or rent near that particular street now. They were offered I believe 8k in the late 80s. Guess what they eventually sold it for, 10 years ago? Ans: a qtr of million

Great commentary, I see properties like this a lot in Texas . In Texas you can build any type of property in any part of Texas and that’s the disadvantage to me. One side of the neighborhood can look affluent and across the street can look like the hood it seems lol Or a huge skyscraper can be built in the middle of residential properties . The zoning laws are interesting in Texas .

Wow the architecture in Austin is so different than that of Cali. In Cali, the nice houses are basically copies of each other, so much so that they're all the same tan color with the same orange/reddish rooftiles. In the video, I noticed that a lot of the newer construction has big square windows. So weird looking, but I like it!

I respect where you are coming from, but honestly, is it really that easy for a 20 or 30 something to buy a house? Most aren't financially literate at that age. Especially in the east Austin area where the price of these houses are triple the price and harder to stay because the property taxes are tripling in some cases in a short amount of time so the people there are getting priced out because they can't keep up. You also have Code Next which is changing the zoning codes
@beach_boy1141

Charles phillips Gotta disagree and who’s fault is it that someone isn’t financial literate and don’t have their finances in order in their 20’s and 30’s??? I think this is incredible. Allows for integration of a community and a diverse demographic. I grew up a few blocks from here over on Montopolis. It has changed immensely since then, and I am incredibly satisfied with the outcome. Within 15-20 years it went from shoes hangin on wires, folks walkin around at all times of night, and gun shots, to now a revitalized and respectable place. It’s growth is inevitable, and it is a fantastic idea to create multiple properties on a lot, can pay off your mortgage and have some money in your back pocket.

As the area and property values increase, intelligent owners will realize their property has increased in value.
