Def would love to see the shutter angle added in (I have an FX 30- same issue)- but - of all of the things I don't usually change during a shoot is my shutter angle - so a minor plus when they add it (and I am sure it is fixable with another firmware update...) Great monitor that def makes shooting much nicer!

Agreed 100%. I leave my shutter angle at 180° 99.99999% of the time so not being quick to change it isn’t really an issue. It would be good to be able to see that I haven’t accidentally changed it more than anything.

Yes! .........however, I figured out one work-flow thing that's not ideal. On the FX30, yes, the new firmware touch-focus works (even in Wide-focus-area mode).......but, once you touch the screen (whether in tracking or just single-touch-focus).....it puts the camera in manual focus (that's great, b/c that's what we wanted), but you CAN'T put the camera BACK in Auto-focus from the Shinobi ii. Why would I want to do that? Because on my most recent live-events using the FX30, I rely on zone autofocus and face-detect autofocus to stay on my main subject (keeping it in auto-face-focus this way works well for me), but I'll often need to pan the camera over to an audience member and that's where I've previously used my ipad to "touch to focus" to find one-face in a sea of many faces......but I need to quickly pan back to the presenter on stage, and with the ipad, I can just put the FX30 back in autofocus mode from the ipad app.......it cancels the touch-tracking and goes back to looking for ANY face in my zone. Long story short.......it would be great if they included a function to either (1) Cancel the touch-to-focus from the Shinobi (putting the camera back in whatever AF mode it was in before we touched the screen), or (2), let us choose between manual/auto focus from the shinobi ii. Unique use-case I guess, but it's a lot easier from the ipad app to put the camera in manual, touch-to-focus, then quickly put it back in auto focus. But I guess having touch-to-focus on the Shinbi ii is STILL better b/c it doesn't lag like an ipad via a wifi connection. Aaaanyway, thanx Dunna! Saw your video today and downloaded the new firmware. Thats really interesting hearing that it puts it into manual focus mode! I didn't have that going on at all with my fx3, it still stays in AF and it just adds tracking like it would if I touched the actual camera screen. I wonder what's causing that?

@@dunnadidit I guess the other way of looking at it is........there's no way to "cancel" spot-tracking after you "touch to focus" on the shinobi ii. If you want the camera to go back into AFC, you have to click the center button on the camera itself (the little button inside the rear-wheel/dial). There doesn't seem to be a way to cancel that tracking/spot mode from the Shinobi.

This has made me consider an upgrade from my Ninja V I've had for years. I don't use the recording aspect of it, but I do have a cage and sunhood on it that make it very useful. I'll have to see if those two things are also offered for this new Shinobi.

The Monitor + app is very laggy when recording in 60fps. I think might even have noticed a bit in the lower frame rates when recording. I have the paid version and I agree it’s very good but that has been what’s kept me using external monitors like the LH7P from Portkeys and Viltrox 550 Pro.

Nice Video Dunna. Been waiting for this as a new Shinobi II owner too. The shinobi monitor should have a built in feature that displays a box on the touch to focus, which then remains on the chosen subject as the camera moves around, a parallel display box, to the one on the A7S III, that while not the same box, serves the same function. Would this be possible? How? How not?

I think the catch with that is that the camera would have to feed that information out to the monitor in some way anyway. In the way that you’re mentioning it, I suppose it would be via usb with the controls. I don’t know how exactly that would work, but I think it would be easier for the camera manufacturer to allow us to select checkboxes of certain things we want to go out the hdmi, like the focus tracking, maybe the level etc.

What if the no signal was needed? If the monitor used an algorithm to recognize and track an object on the screen, that would occur independently, yet simultaneously with the A7S III tracking? Atomos could then run enough test to ensure that the accuracy is reliable enough to keep the box on the object in parallel to the tracking done by the A7S III. I admit it sounds like a lot of work - but perhaps they could get or buy access to an existing object tracking technology and shape it to fit the purpose, assuming the monitor has the hardware to do these calculations, and understanding the computer power necessary to do them. Perhaps a crazy idea, but it would eliminate the need for a signal from the A7S III and potentially solve the problem. @@dunnadidit

Only if you output it via hdmi, sometimes it's called "clean feed" and you want to turn that off. Depending on your camera, that could black out your screen though (sony problems)

Definitely don't want focus boxes baked in to a video (HDMI/SDI) feed. They should make that data be accessible by their API (via WiFi, Bluetooth, or USB) just like all the other camera control functions.

@ I actually had no problem with AF tracking even before this update on my Z9 but after the update the only thing I can see that has changed is that I have lost my kelvin camera control which is now greyed out for some reason!🤔

@ Update on the Nikon Z9! On the previous 11.02.00 FM the kelvin Camera Control was changeable on screen no matter what WB setting on the camera but on 11.03.00 they changed it so that the WB setting on camera MUST be first set to only Kelvin ! Then it works perfectly! Also as you experienced with shutter angle, it is greyed out but when changing SA on Z9 it is registered to the monitor but in shutter speed and there is no control from the monitor! Another user interface quirk is also that when in RAW settings on the Z9 the native ISO setting starts at ISO 800 and anything lower is indicated as LO 0.3, 0.7, 1.0, 1.3, 1.5, 1.7 and finally LO 2.0 in camera but as of yet this is not translated to the Shinobi II CC, it is registered but yet again in the corresponding ISO and not as indicated on the camera itself! It would be great if Atomos could fix this in the next FW update!👍🏾

Thats good news. Although I do not completely agree with your comment regarding the tracking square on the screen. Sony may not be able to configure which elements are displayed over HDMI but this information should be available via USB. The Monitor & Control app can do this in both modes (wifi and usb). So let's hope that Atomos gets this fixed with the next firmware update, I mean it should be in their interest to deliver the best possible user experience and to show if my object is still tracked or not is a big benefit. So let's cross fingers.

My Shinobi ii will not update the firmware past 10.11. I have gone through the process step-by-step and the unit doesn't seem to even recognize the SD card. I know the card is good as I was able to format it and compy the .BIN files to it from my laptop. I guess I may just have a bad unit. The monitor and menu work fine however, so this isn't a real issue at this point.

This is an AWESOME update!! The one feature that ALL of us Sony shooters have been asking for in a monitor is finally here - and available at a really great price. RE: shutter angle - i keep all of my Sony cameras in Flexible Exposure Mode. It allows me to program a custom button to long press and switch from shutter angle to shutter speed instantly - no menu diving required.

I heard there is a battery drain when using the monitor as a bridge between a V-lock and the camera... Have you experienced this? I mean if you connect the V-lock to the monitor via USB-c then the monitor to the camera, via USB-c.. the battery can provide enough power for both and the internal battery of the FX3 drains slowly .. (I've read this happening even with a Smallrig VB99 Pro) ..

Hmmm maybe I’m misunderstanding but if I’m reading this right, you can’t actually do that at all. There’s only one usb-c port so you can’t go both in and out at the same time. However, if you’re using an NPF battery on the back, and then using that to also power the camera it’s plugged into via usb-c, it will drain the npf battery more quickly for sure. And you have to be careful because, with my fx3, I turn off USB power so it doesn’t drain too quickly, but if I turn off the camera and leave the monitor on by accident, it starts charging the camera.

Honestly, it's such a small monitor that not being 4k never really bothers me. I don't even think that any of the monitors I own or have ever tried are truly 4k output, they all accept 4k input but at 5 or 7 inches, 4k is probably overkill in a lot of cases.

Did you know that Atomos released an update to the first version of the Shinobi in 2022? There were bugs in the update, which caused Atomos to remove it for download. - Okay, everyone makes mistakes. Except that Atoms NEVER released a fix for that buggy update. There have been no updates to the original Shinobi since. We have stopped buying Atomos gear.

@@dunnadidit yes. I absolutely cannot live without seeing the focus box now, after using Monitor+. One of the best features of these Sony's is their AF features. With any real monitor- you just can't really use it. Unless you have your little camera screen out and constantly looking from your screen to your monitor. I've done this for years- always hated it. Now I don't have to. Come on Sony! Fix thisssss
