I think women were convinced they needed to be equal to me in working and bringing in a salary. I now think we were sold a lie. Not that in many cases it doesn't benefit us, because many have gotten burned. Then they had to rely on themselves. I wished I could have stayed home with my babies. My husband worked 60+ hrs a week and I still had to work my 45+ hr a week job. I'm grateful he is working a 40 hr a week job now. Though I still have to work. But we don't live in an area to afford to live on one income. We each work extra jobs as we can to bring in more income. It breaks my Mama heart on the time I missed. But trying to make the best of what we have. We have a roof over our heads, food on the table and gas to get to work. We are blessed. I just felt my Mom sold me a lie (get an education and produce an income). Which I am doing, but I'm not truly fulfilled. Her bad marriage framed that opinion. I can't blame her.

I am a boomer. Born in 1945, 2 weeks after WWII ended. Raised 3 children, worked as R N since age 21. Retired at age 67. Became a nationally Certified Critical Care R N in 1992. Our generation was serious, hard working and God fearing. 18 year olds were tank commanders in Viet Nam! They came home to become Nurse Practitioners and were honorable. I will never believe this generation was the reason for all today’s problems. We were part of building a better America. Our self serving politicians were undermining us behind our backs. Time to vote the criminals out!

Nope, a gradual transferal of wealth to the elire class was planned from the start in 1913 with the charter of the FED, gold confiscation in 1933 made it worse, reason they blaiming the boomers was the cancelation of the gold standard. The dollar still had value in the 70's, so the boomers paycheck bought more. Since then the actual inflation devaluation of the dollar has accelerated exponentially. Todays $1 isn't worth a 1913 cent.

Spot on brother! Also, Nixon's "temporary" suspension of the Gold Standard has led us to the profligate spending that devalues our dollar year after year. The baby boomers are victims of all this, not the perpetrators. I remember in 1968, one dollar of my paper route profits bought me three slices of pizza and a coke. I was born in 1960. My first paying job, I was 11. Once I started getting babysitting money, I had to buy some of my own hygiene products. The day I turned 16, I took my drivers test and my Dad had taken me down and I got my first bank loan/car payment. I worked after school at the local golf resort. I made $1.10 as a waitress. My life has had many challenges. When my son was born, my husband made $2 too much a month for us to qualify for wick. Could not afford formula because he wouldn't nurse. He was an evaporated milk baby. We did not get food stamps and my grocery budget was $100 for the month. We did what we needed to do.

I never told my children to put their education and careers first. I was young when I started having children and I wouldn’t change a thing. People wait so long to have children now that the grandparents are older when they come along and have less energy. I’m 68 with my next granddaugter due in July. My oldest grandson will turn 13 soon and I’m glad I was only in my 50s when he was born. My mother had six children in 10 years from 1956-1966. I am the oldest and mom was 20 years old. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years while dad provided for us and for that I am very thankful. Unfortunately these days most couples can’t even dream of making it on one income. I think the biggest downfall to society is the little ones who never knew the security of at least one good full-time parent to raise them up to at least Kindergarten age. They get indoctrinated early in the system.

Many of the young are turning to a more traditional role. I'm 41, and my husband and I have 10 children. We struggle but we live on 1 income. I think my generation is starting to turn a leaf and I know my oldest and her generation (she's 23) are definitely going traditional.

I did not learn many life skills from my mom. We ate out of cans and she made very little from scratch. It was always boxes or cans. 4 years ago I started learning how to grow a garden, cook from scratch, bake, preserve, can etc. I wanted better for my own family. I read lots of books and watch hours of videos. I have several binders with recipes, notebooks with notes etc so that my daughter will have this information someday. At 4 she helps us do hay, cook and bake with me, work in the garden, do laundry, yard work, p pull weeds, water plants. She can make her own scrambled eggs. She wants and loves to learn so I teach her everything I can. She'll go in her play kitchen and pretend she's doing what I do. I hope this stays with her and she realizes how hard her. Mom and Dad have worked I got tired of weeding. I use fabric weed cloth and I'm going in 4 years of using it. I've found it keeps weeds out, keeps disease down.

At 68 I’ve purchased a pressure canner and learned to can meats and potatoes. I’ve also been dehydrating fruits and veggies and herbs. I have three raised gardens too. It’s never too late to learn. I’m in better shape now than I’ve been in the past few years. Not to boast, but since 2020, I woke up to what I need to be doing and God has me preparing to better myself and be an example for my two kids, eight grandkids and three great grandkids. Thank you Patara for all you share. You motivate me to keep busy and pray, prepare and be peaceful! ❤

1954 here. I started working as a plumbers apprentice during summer vacations when I was 14. Minimum wage was 1.60 an hour, gas was a silver quarter for a gallon, and a hamburger was 20 cents. As a kid I was required to take care of farm animals every day and had inside chores too. I worked long hours for many years. I've never had debt in my life - not even once. If I didn't have the money I didn't buy it - including a house and cars. That's the way my parents raised me Same with the woman I married - 1953. We saved, lived simple, sacrificed, invested. We both have all sorts of practical skills. Don't blame us for this mess.

Our society became soft, we off-shored our manufacturing, over pricing our labor untill foreign labor mahes all our goods, even our medications. We produce nothing but debt, the petro dollar and the foreigners no longer value $$$, as the fear that they will be effectively santioned or bombed for not trading internationally only in the Petro-Dollar. Titus 2: older women are to teach & train younger women. That got sent right off the rails in the 1960s-1970s as "older" women went to spend their waking hours in offices. My own mother (born 1921) was one of those, no longer had time or energy to train me (born 1952) in ANY of the old ways of canning, sewing, etc. Many of us lost an entire generation's knowledge & expertise! Today, I'm an avid canner but had to learn from classes, Extension offices, etc. (LOL, that's probably a good thing when considering what is "safe" today vs what was standard way back when.)

We are boomers raised by hard working parents. We worked saved and paid all bills while raising 2 boys. Taught our boys to work also. My husband told both of them on their 15 th birthday that they had 1 year to save enough money for 1 years car insurance or they could not get their drivers license. They detassled corn, walked beans, served ice cream, and worked for farmers. Both had 1 year insurance money and their drivers license at 16. Next they had to pay for their gas and buy any parts for repairs and were taught how to do maintainence. Dad showed them how to change oil, change tires and check the fluids. They are hard workers today and provide for their family. 25 yr old granddaughter has worked 2 jobs since she was 16 and now putting herself through nursing school. In this family if you wanted something you worked and saved for it. No debt ! 25:21 No time for lazy in this family! ❤❤

I'm 41 and certainly don't blame anyone and get tired of hearing people blame us or past generations. We all did best given information we had and all had our own problems. Past generations had wars and most men left country and women had to step up and work and take care of the kids. We all had either a financial collapse or problems. No one lied to anyone like many claim about college. That was true but they got degrees in particular jobs most degrees today didn't exist 20 or 30 years ago. We could blame those who sold out family land and farms but we don't know what was situation at the time. I know I have worked hard for my 4 sons and future family and legacy. We rebought the farm and relearning the skills and teaching them. It is part of our homeschooling for my youngest son 16. We bought all the old books we can find for future to learn truth from past not new rewritten history. Also hundreds of homesteading and farming books.

MSM and social media have so romanticized the agriculture/livestock experience. In reality: dirt, mud, manure, too much rain, not enough rain, pest control, fencing maintenance, pulling weeds, blisters, sunburn, labor-delivery assistance, first aid, etc. But I bet most of you wouldn't change your lifestyle for all the money in the world! Be proud, knowing that you worked so hard, learned new things, built your homestead, and are now mentoring others. Continue to be the example that we need. I appreciate it. Patara, I'm almost 60 years old, and you know who I blame? ME! When my Daddy was breaking his back working 6 days a week, some evenings for extra money, and 3 gardens in the summer, he didn't have the time to teach me but I did learn some by watching. When my Mama was picking green beans and canning tomatoes until her fingers bled because she had horrible eczema, she didn't have time between babysitting and raising us 3 kids, and boy, do I wish I had all that knowledge that they did right now. But, I too, got books and taught myself how to can in the past 3 years, and although I don't have much room in a townhome for now, I'm planting tomatoes, I bought a small hydroponic system for growing lettuce, and I'm trying to learn something every chance I get. These folks who just love to not take responsibility for their own actions need to pull their big boy/girl britches up, and suck it up.

Once in 1936, to buy a new Chevrolet dually truck, which was financed for 18 months, and then in 1939, when he bought 118 acres for $1,200, and financed $500 for six months. We looked at 33 acres for 13k one time, and he didn't buy it because the timber wouldn't pay for the land. He never had a credit card. So how is it my fault for the current situation, if I never partook of the credit scam? I'm fighting against the latest real estate assessment, while some people in the community are happy with the 138% increase, because they can get a large home equity loan. They didn't get to this point because of past generations.

I was not taught anything growing up. My mom didn't cook let alone do any of the other things. My husband and I have learned how to cook from scratch, can, dehydrate, garden, build things, repair things.... The list just goes on and on I most recently learned how to crochet from a handful of KZbin videos and I've made my first blanket. I no longer have to buy blankets. I know how to quilt. I can make money doing these things as well. We have to teach our children teach our children teach our children teach our children!!😂
