1. When I heard about Dynamite being in English, I asked my 18 y/o daughter what she thought about it. Her response was, "They make Japanese albums for their Japanese fans, right? Why can't they make an English song for their US fans?" This made me adjust my thoughts on the subject drastically. 2. In times of great strife, happy music comes forth to soothe listeners (think Charleston in the Great Depression and Disco in the '70s.) Times are very tough right now and Dynamite certainly fits the bill for happy dance tune. 3. If all it took was an English song to get a #1 then every US artist and all the foreign ones who've recorded in English would have one. BTS have accrued many little victories to reach a point where an English song by them could be pushed over the "Wall". Wonder Girls, anybody? Maybe Jopping? 4. All Dynamite has proven, in my opinion, is that Radio Programmers are blatantly xenophobic. They won't play a Spanish song, land's sake, let alone a Korean one, because their "audience" wouldn't like it. I suspect this has more to do with them than the general public, but what do I know, I'm not an expert. One final thought: there are many great artists who never reached #1 but are well respected, however all of them were English speakers. BTS (being 'foreign') will have to be twice as good to be taken half as seriously. Just a sad fact of the world we live in. I'm more melancholy about the fact that Koreans are taking this song more seriously than all of BTS's Korean songs, even though I understand why it's happening.

😳😭 Meu pensamento exato: Eles fazem álbuns (2 ou 3?) em japonês para os fãs japoneses e não são criticados, mas fazem 1, somente 1 música em inglês e são taxados de vendidos! P.S. Wake Up (Japanese) Dark&Wild jap ver LY: Face Yourself (Japanese) MOTS:7 jap ver MOTS:Journey (Japanese) Entre singles e outras versões de músicas coreanas para o japonês.

I think the reason they decided to sing in English, and sing a song such as Dynamite, is because of the current situation of the world with COVID right now. The song came out because they wanted something to give people during this crazy pandemic.

But thank u for mentioning BTS has evolved and gain momentum confident just to overcome all haters now. And i like you are saying BTS did english song for ARMY in this unprecedented times. And in future its their perogative to do another english as they wishes. They are artists that has eyes for the beauty if a creation. And they are so fair n honest to admit for song writer n producer. Love you saying that BTS pave way to Top 100 Billboard and BTS is D 1st Asians/Korean act to do so after Japan Sukiyaki 1963. BUT NOW IS BTS ERA. THERE IS NO DENIAL. I am so amazed at how big D ARMY support BTS endlessly through their journey to Grammy. To end, thank you for still doting on streaming. Please all army streaming we wishes for Dynamite REPEAKING as BTS is so deserved of it. As BTS evolve, i wish music world evolve as it is. I really love how you present things, and particularly your knowledgeable objectivity here. I am fascinated to learn that BTS made no changes at all to Dynamite - and yes, that's mature, but it's also honest somehow. I often find my favourite songs completely ruined (for me) by the covering singer's determination to make it their own, to staple onto a simply beautiful tune vocal embellishments which add nothing to the emotion and just get in the way. Just vocal gymnastics, because they can. So I was delighted to hear this little nugget about BTS' refusal to attempt to better Dynamite, because it was perfect as is. That's phenomenally rare! As to did they sell out? Well I guess I knew it might be a question, because some people will be looking for an excuse, and I did consider the matter for a second or two. Not for long : the song is exactly what they were looking for - a simple catchy song to cheer people up. No layers of meaning that we expect from BTS (which disappointed me) but it did exactly what we all need. It is unrelentingly determined to be cheerful, and whether you want it or not, it picks you up and carries you along. In my experience of BTS they are before anything artists in service of their music and their message, and their presentation of Dynamite exactly performed that function. I don't care who wrote it : it performed immaculately to meet BTS' need, which was firstly to offer a gift of happiness to ARMY and the world. I also think Dynamite fits perfectly into any potential strategy to break into western markets. BTS will not write music to conform with what they think the west wants, because they have no interest in diluting what they do. But they needed a bridge to break down those barriers which dismiss them, and Dynamite was perfect. I do think there was an element of strategy in the choice, but I don't think that makes it a sell out. How silly that idea is. If it were a simple sell out, they would not have bothered to apply in the MV the layers of meaning that I missed in the song itself - it is incredibly rich in its references and allusions! I believe that the number of people describing themselves as ARMY now has risen exponentially - in large part new ARMY are why Dynamite was No1. Like you I look forward eagerly to the new album. I think I'm pretty confident it will surprise many people in the west, because - it won't be in English; it won't be a clone for Dynamite; and it will be hugely successful, perhaps exceeding the achievement of Dynamite. And American radio will not be able to ignore BTS any more. Fighting! Borahae 💜

Thank you! That's encouraging. 💜 you are right. I think one of the things that people miss is the intention behind the song. this is not a part of their general narrative. BTS ARMY would know that BTS connects their songs. This is an exception, something they did because they wanted to cheer up ARMY and other people. they didn't go out to create a groundbreaking revolutionary ideology. they wanted to create a happy vibe because we're all having a hard time with this covid thing. and they did it perfectly.

You said exactly what I was thinking. And even if they said they would never make an English album, they are young. Your thoughts change as you get older, and they may view it as an opportunity. That doesn't make them a sell out. I'm very happy for BTS. For the many years of hard work and sacrifices that they've made, to see them get this recognition is wonderful. :)

Oh thank you for your so very well thought out position on BTS. Especially the first part on the idea of selling out. Haters can say all they may, the #1 spot speaks for itself. 300 millions views on KZbin alone confirms that the public has spoken. We arent concerned as much for selling out than the joy and fun the song brings. Isnt that why we listen to music in the first place. And yes, now their challenge is to outdo themselves. And given their dedication and sincerity to their art, we have another coming our way. CHEEERS!

Thank you for your insight, that was beautifully put and so true. It is part of the genius of BTS to know this was just the song we needed at this time. And it is part of their courage to do it even knowing the criticisms that would come (as I'm sure they did.) BTS is amazing and I'm happy this song can be a doorway to the rest of their music for new fans.

I am incredibly impressed that straight off the bat, in their week-long feature on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon they performed “Idol” in modern hanboks, outside traditional Korean architecture. “Idol” is a song that is essential Korean. The video and the dance sparked so much interest in Korean culture and language. I am from the Caribbean, with South East Asian roots, and “Idol” has been the most layered education that I have had in Korean traditions with a layer of understanding of pop culture, all wrapped in an energetic manifesto of self-acceptance and self-love. It is one of their most complex, patriotic pieces of art, and they STARTED with that on their international platform. On their second night, they switch gears and sang “Home”.... by no means one of their more westernized songs, but still containing enough words here and there to build a scaffold of comprehension that draws me into the song, and makes me WANT to understand the Korean.... only to be rewarded with the sweetest, happiest, most healing song... As someone who grew up reading and loving classic English literature and poetry, BTS has captured my imagination and made me INTERESTED in Korean culture and art. In the last year of my life, most of the visual art and storytelling that I have consumed has been Korean. I even watch KZbin clips of Korean gameshows while I’m having my tea or taking a break! To call BTS sellouts for singing one song in English is so myopic and one-dimensional that it is laughable. BTS singing a song in English has acted as a bridge, over which they will bring more people into Korean art, culture and tradition. These detractors are so incredibly narrow-minded in their attempts at criticism.... and meanwhile, BTS is doing their thing, responding to every attack with MORE talent and positivity. I greatly appreciate your treatment of the issue and I think that your calm and gentle delivery is so inclusive and approachable!

I really do enjoy your calm, matter-of-fact way of speaking. When the song hit #1 I wondered less about if BTS "sold out," and more if there was any personal twinge of bitterness for them that it wasn't a song they wrote that hit #1. Although, as you say, they are mature people and I'd be willing to bet that instead of being bitter, they might see it as a challenge to improve themselves even further as artists, (I can see Yoongi in particular thinking this way). Being open to continuous growth is a sign of maturity. It's possible no one was more surprised than BTS themselves that it hit #1 since Dynamite wasn't an intense project for them and was instead a little gift to ARMY to boost spirits. But like many things during this time of COVID, Dynamite was that little ray of hope so many of us need when the world is (literally) on fire, (be safe West Coast peeps). People latched onto that ray of positivity like a lifeline and here we are. I will forever lament that I wasn't a part of the long journey that brought BTS to where they are today, but I'm here now and Dynamite may very well have brought in even more people like me. :) Side note: I love your hat.

However, these award giving bodies have a need for them to boost their existence and presence in all media platforms. BTS are taken advantage of. That is the hard fact. I totally agree with you.. as i remember RM once asked about the meaning of their song ON, he told us that ON is song that even though there are lot of life shadows and darkness they encountered and shall going through or maybe will happen as they go along with their life, it is not anymore important and whatever happens they just move on and do whatever they need to do regardless of what other people might think and say. They are grown ups and know what is best not only for them but for the army. I really looked up to them and just being a proud asean. So, dynamite is what they need to do to give hope to most of the people in the entire world suffering from mental diseases and anxiety bc of this covid 19 pandemic. And as we all know those who find ways to help succeeds. How about let us honour those people (big and small) who are doing their best to give hope and love to each and everyone of us and nothing more. If they got the achievements like bbma and grammy or everything they received, well it is just a complimenting way to honour their work bc they never stop making good music and never let us down❤️ whatever they think and say or thrown them hates bc haters are always hate, they will never give a damn. It doesnt make them any sense bc they are the most successful and powerful boy band in the world. Let us just wish them luck and happiness as they go on making us happy. Ofc they will have sleepless nights bc of the presures of beating their own songs but like and as always they have nothing to prove they just doing what they do best w/c is their music and performances. Just a little prayer for the boys and thats it for now🙏😊❤️

Yet another well thought out and well reasoned review. The phrase "sell out" has always been interesting. I find that it is often used to confine a person or thing to boundaries created outside of themselves. BTS are entertainers. They are gifted artists who deal in auditory and visual currencies. They have worked hard to reach a level of success that many people aspire and dream to achieve. I find it interesting that in a Global World where the internet allows us to catch a glimpse of other cultures, that when artists move to embrace cultural diversity in their art form of choice that they are labeled as "see outs" as opposed to ambassadors. The BTS ARMY is global and includes English speaking members. Would BTS be labeled as sell outs if they sung a song in Japanese or Spanish or Taiwanese or any other language? The art form of music is special in that it can be understood no matter what the language. It is the artist that creates the connection with the audience. BTS made the connection with its audience Global Audience as it has in the past, but this time, it used Dynamite which happened to be in English. Dynamite exploded a cultural barrier that allowed BTS to showcase their talent to a new audience, an audience that may not have been afforded the opportunity to be exposed to their music Transcendence is not about selling out, it is about moving beyond boundaries to unexplored potential. This is what BTS accomplished. They always deserved to be in the Billboard Hot 100. Their achievement is a testament to their ability to transcend. I look forward to their continual evolution and growth as artists.

Because only BTS among Artists around the World makes my heart happy and soft. That's why we don't get it why theres a lot of bashers and haters attacking BTS. They should give time to know BTS well and if they do that, they will find themeselves loving BTS and their hatred and jealousy will be vanish. Because its good to be good and happy. im a simple person with simple understanding about everything, so that being said i dont understand why people are trying to analyze and breakdown reasons as to why BTS Dynamite top the charts. I believe the reason is simple: 1. BTS worked hard for it (memorizing english lyrics, mastering choreography and showmanship as always, etc.) 2. ARMYs worked hard for it (streaming non-stop, buying the music, keeping the hype, spreading the music everywhere, etc.) 3. Their company worked hard for it (marketing, making remixes, strategizing, advertizing, choosing the right stations or programs to appear in, etc.) At the end of the day, all of these hardwork can no longer be disregarded and ignored that's why BillBoard HAD to acknowledge it or else their credibility will be greatly questioned AGAIN. Plus when was it ever an issue to sing something in a different language if it helps you achieve your goals? and by goals i mean their purpose of giving a happy, energetic song to people during this tough times. And they said themselves that this song was not planned initially but just came about coz of the pandemic, and that they would not be singing in English for their next songs/album, so again why would people think they sold their original sound just because of this one song. Seriously, majority of human beings are toxic.

I do love your opinion on BTS' Dynamite's criticisms & achievements. What have been hotly debated to date is the differences between "The First to..." & "... Paved the Way..." Now, BTS might not be the FIRST K-Pop Group/Artists to break into the US, the #1 biggest music market in the word, but they've certainly PAVED THE WAY for Korean & even Asian artists to really succeed there now & in the future. Witness the slew of K-Pop Boy & Girl Groups now having performances & their singles/albums break into the US music charts. In the past, big-name K-Pop groups & solo artists have achieved success in the US for 2 decades, but they've been doing so in order for their juniors in the Agency to follow in their footsteps, certainly NOT for other groups from other Agencies. Yet they did NOT succeed very well to pass the baton even within the Agency. BTS is a different story! So yes, BTS is surely in "a league of their own" now through hard work, focus & commitment, achieving everything in a fair & square way. That's why ARMY love & support them so much. We're sure BTS's success with Dynamite is NOT a fluke! They've done it once, they'll do it again in the near future! That's how it's always been with BTS, they've always broken their own records, with ARMY always by their side. Teamwork makes the dream work, borahae💜

Even if BTS were to come back and create an all English album, I still would not consider them sellouts at this stage of the game. They have proven so many times that their albums being in Korean are top sellers in the U.S., U.K. & worldwide. How many times in our own lives have we said we would never do something and then later because of us growing & maturing, we changed our minds? I will support them in whatever they decide as artists, regardless their decisions. They are part of my extended family and I will respect their decisions.

BTS has every right to tailor a song for the US market if they want to. They want to win a Grammy, and to do that, you first have to get the members of the Recording Academy to pay attention to your music. Unlike almost all other music awards, Grammy winners are chosen by professional musicians, not by fans. Up until now, it has been easy for the Recording Academy members to ignore BTS as just another boy band making songs for teenage girls. With Dynamite, BTS has proven that they can top the charts, and their subsequent publicity tour, with multiple live performances, each one on a different set with a different flavor, and multiple mini-concerts that also showcase some of their more serious music, has been pure genius. The only thing I think they could do to improve it is to put song lyric subtitles on the Korean songs in their mini-concerts. Hopefully the Grammy nominating committees are paying attention now. Getting a nomination is the first hurdle, and voting is happening right now for 2021 nominations. Good luck BTS! You deserve it, and we love you!

To answer your question - NO!!!! They did work with the writers and changed lyrics and changed it to exactly how they wanted it to say and sound. This is per the male writer of the song. So it was edited and "produced" by BTS. All the questions you asked are answered in the interview of the songwriter. His name is David Stewart. The interview is on KZbin. Go check it out. A note - there is a female co-writer. But she didn't do the KZbin interview.

BTS accept a lot of songs from different song writers but mostly when they like the songs they actually change some of the lyrics to fit them not just translate the song in Korean example is JungKook euphoria the original composer even admitted that the change lyrics sounded way better in the Korean version than the original writing

I don't think adapting to reality is selling out. One single song that they didn't write on their own doesn't mean they haven't put in a lot of work to perform it. We all grow and change. BTS has grown up and they are beautiful souls. Haters are gonna hate and that will never change. BTS is stronger and better than that.

How can this be a sell out? A lot of artists sing others' composition... Adelle is no less than the singer that she is because she sang a song Bruno Mars wrote. True, they didn't write Dynamite, but they were the original artist who sang and recorded the song. If the song resonate their emotions and the story they want to tell, what is wrong with that? To me, it was a smart move. A lot of people were able to relate because it was an English song. And a lot of fans appreciated that. Now, if they were able to top the chart, without breaking any rules, that is just the icing on the sweetest cake!

I agree but i dont agree that BTS was not part in the creative process. First, tthe decion of BTS as to whether or not it will accept and eventually translate Dynamite in Korean is a huge part in the creative process. Second, the interpretion and execution of the song is a huge part in the creation process. Imagine the amount of hard work that BTS had to put into its interpretation and in the execution process, not to mention the English diction that Dynamite would require mastery by BTS, which most of them could barely speak English. In that way, they are indirectly involved in the creation process. Surely, ARMY would love and push heaven and hell for BTS get major awards at the AMA and Grammys. For the love of ARMY, BTS will do their everything to honor what Army wants for them especially in this trying times. Besides, the very intention of BTS in singing Dynamite was to bring positive energy to their Fans and the whole world as well. Getting a nomination in the Grammys is fortunately incidental. And, so what if it is the ultimate goal if it will make the Army happy?

There will always be haters but they fail to see as what RM said “they are just 7 Korean boys who love performing”. And they are happy performing for Army and for people who care to hear and see them perform. Their songs give positive and happy vibe. And to feel that when it is sung in another language…wow!

Confused. Jimin w/ Tiffany and Com. would get 7 figures easy. After you said ( about paying taxes) if Jimin got $10 million from Tiffany's...... confusion here. There's a tremendous difference between 7 figures, $1+million and $10 million. You also didn't mention how long they may have to work to receive that. ( Only interested in BTS). Also curious why big name magazines would only put a group or members on Korea's edition. BTS , at this point besides the music and awards, having spoken at the UN 3 times, ambassadors for UNICEF, spoken at the White House etc. now receive more interest in the US than say Susan Sarandon, generalized, yet we don't get them on Our cover. We can order it special for maybe $30.-$50. but that makes no sense. Sorry some totally different topics. I wasn't aware of you.
@AsianEntertainmentandCulture

ok... i said "that's 7 figures easy" which meant, "he got paid in millions of dollars". however, $10 M is not confirmed because I never saw his contract. i just ask people i know in the advertising industry. i worked in the advertising industry for more than a decade so, i have developed a network. i usually go conservative when I estimate how much BTS is paid. so if someone tells me they are paid this much, I would peg it lower. contracts are "usually" 1 year. but again, i have never seen Jimin's contract with any of his brands so I wouldn't know for sure. maybe it's a different contract term. also, Jimin is an actual brand endorser not just an ordinary ambassador. his campaigns are aired here in the US and Europe. as for magazine covers, When BTS made it in the West, it wasn't a warm welcome in the industry. you wouldn't believe the insults people in the industry where throwing at them. it was downright disgusting. they were and still are, severely looked down upon because they are a boyband. that doesn't happen with girlgroups. they are more welcoming when it comes to girl groups but boybands are looked down upon. that's why, if i remember correctly, they were featured in teen vogue but not the main vogue. it took a while before the west started welcoming the idea of BTS being "real artists". i would say when they sold out stadiums in minutes, that's when people in the industry started, hmmmm, how shall i put this, entertaining the idea that they were for real. nowadays, BTS members are even busier than they were when they were doing group activities because they have a deadline (military service). so they are actually rejecting many invitations and projects because they don't have the time to do it.

Let me start by saying I am a huge BTS fan ! I respectfully disagree with you calling Dynamite a masterpiece. Dynamite is not up to par with BTS' writing and composing. They have incredible music with incredible choreography . Their videos are works of art. They lowered their standards to hit #1. They are mature in the sense that they are business people and this is a shrewd business move not art. This allows them to win the only award that has eluded them, the Grammy! BTS is a cash machine and everyone affiliated with them knows this. A Billboard #1 and a Grammy win would be an unbelievable amount of money to everyone involved including Korea itself. I live in NYC , the biggest market in the world and the song is rarely played on the radio. Harry Styles is played every 20 minutes. How could Dynamite hit #1? Manipulation perhaps? Now having said that, This does open the door for a Korean Invasion music wise. There are many talented artists not only in Korea but in all of Asia who are not recognized in the US and this will change that. This may also open a conversation of getting them exempt from Military Service. Exemptions have been made for musicians and athletes who have had major success. These are both excellent reasons for having BTS hit #1. Dynamite, Really?

Just to clarify, these are your main points and how i interpreted it: 1) They lowered their standards to hit #1. = *they compromised their disposition and personal conviction to hit #1* 2) They are mature in the sense that they are business people and this is a shrewd business move not art. This allows them to win the only award that has eluded them, the Grammy! = *they are mature business-wise but not artistically or personally?* 3) Harry Styles is played every 20 minutes. How could Dynamite hit #1? Manipulation perhaps? = *They had to cheat to get to number #1* 4) This may also open a conversation of getting them exempt from Military Service. Exemptions have been made for musicians and athletes who have had major success. These are both excellent reasons for having BTS hit #1. = *They will use this as a ground to get military exemption* 5) Dynamite, Really? = *Dynamite doesn't deserve the #1 spot* Am i correct?

I respect your opinion. Art and masterpiece are opinion words, subjective words which are not necessarily related to "like." (The "Mona Lisa" is considered a masterpiece painting to the Italian Renaissance, but it has never been a favorite of mine. I do however respect the artist and work. WAP and Watermelon Sugar are popular songs, but not my preference. We like what we like. ) Harry Styles is also a cash machine. Is Watermelon Sugar manipulated? Yes, music is a business but without a compelling, artistic product, nothing happens even for the most talented well known artists. Kpop has a lot to offer, especially that much of the music is not politically or overtly sexually charged in a time where political correctness and mass appeal must be considered. I would agree that Dynamite does not have the depth of meaning like songs they have written. But, it absolutely meets their intent of a message of "cheer." There's a YT video of them meeting and discussing wanting to send a song of hope and how it had to be the "right" choice - not wallowing in pain, nor disregarding that either. "Stay Gold" was hopeful and showed both those things, but was not a song to move the listener off the couch and do something. In my opinion, I think giving us a song that doesn't contain emotional baggage is a brilliant choice at this time. I personally feel like I've cried a million tears since March and this song does give me a lift. It turned out to be the right thing at the right time. They still took a chance on this choice; there was no guarantee of acceptance. The Dynamite videos are creative. There were choices of theme, color, clothing, set, and so on. Considering that the virus must have greatly limited some of these choices and how many people could safely be involved, the videos are fun and have many Easter Eggs included. You may not like them, but the videos are creative. Limited resources often mean more creativity is implemented. Manipulation - Radio play is only one criteria for BB. (I believe this was changed after PSY's Gangnam Style and BB continues to look at the ways digital media has impacted music exposure.) BB includes Spotify, Apple, Pandora, YT, etc. Military Service - To my knowledge they have never said they didn't want to honor this commitment. At this point the Korean military could not just dump them into an ordinary role for their own safety and military public image. Imagine the public/world outcry if something ugly happened. With or without a Grammy, their contribution to the Korean Economy is considerable and I'm sure is not taken lightly. I believe the Korean government made a large investment in the arts to improve the economy 15 or so years ago. And they are looking at ways to help with music promotion with virtual venues for concerts in the time of Covid in 2021. The idea of valuing music for economics and expanding Korean cultural is not new. I think most musicians dream of a receiving a Grammy. I can see why it is a dream of BTS because they are artists. Saying the song Dynamite was a manipulative choice to win a Grammy and avoid military service is substantial accusation. Yoongi/Suga has stated that they achieved so much more than they ever dreamed and because they are still young, they need to adjust what it means to have a happy, successful life. A constant in their message is wanting to give back with their art. Dynamite, for many of us, Yes!

Dynamite was for the army. They decided they wanted something light and fun with easy choreography so ever one could sing along and dance along. So...I disagree with you. They had no idea this silly little song would go to number 1. They weren't thinking about themselves, but of others suffering during the pandemic. So it is a Masterpiece in the fact it has positively impacted so many people in a happy, satisfying way. I can't get the song out of my head. It makes me happy. I understand what you are saying, but if you look back at the planning stages for this album.... there is a KZbin video of BTS sitting down to plan this album.... because Big Hit decided to give complete control of this album to the guys....from beginning to end. And at the top of their priorities was to do a song to make their army happy during this traumatic pandemic saga. So the fact that they... BTS singers were introduced to this song. ...and they felt it would reach more people in English was Not Big Hit's decision. Again, they were hands off this album. Since the guys couldn't tour ..they wanted to direct their talent to creating since they couldn't perform. BTS could have decided to sing it in Korean, but due to their genius decision to sing it in English ..they were rewarded #1 on Billboard. The boys had no idea this would happen. Didn't you hear them say they cried for hours and hours?????? Come on. Give them some credit! Of course singers are trying to make a profit, but it isn't just BTS!!!! It's ALL music producing companies. A sell-out??????????????????? Noooooooooooooooooooo. Just music Geniuses!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@@AsianEntertainmentandCulture Please forgive me for not answering sooner. Also please understand that I am a BTS fan, let me clarify, 1 - Yes, I believe they did. They have won every award and accolade possible. They have reached heights that no artist(s) have reached. They are undoubtedly on top, however only one thing eludes them, a Grammy. They themselves have stated in interviews that their "next goal" was a Billboard #1 and a Grammy. BTS and Big Hit are big enough to make things happen. As I stated they have "incredible music with incredible choreography" and their videos are "works of art." It is entirely possible that standards were lowered a bit to reach a goal. 2 - Never did I state that they were or are not wise artistically or personally. They are however wise business men. As I said they are a money making machine, both they and Big Hit knows this. This does not negate their talent or conviction in any way. It is possible to be business minded and be extremely talented. Part of this money machine business is the reality shows and concerts that are released with a fee to view. Big Hit (now partially owned by BTS) charges fans for everything. With the world situation and people really needing to be pepped up a free concert or program would be a very nice thank you. In the past month fans have paid for: In the soop, Break the silence documentary, a Dynamite record and cassette tape, Map of the soul one concert, an in theater movie. not to mention t-shirts, hats etc. In my opinion this is a cash machine. There are fans who would love to participate buy can't financially. This is the nature of the business. They are mature business wise and extremely talented artistically. 3 - Again, never did I say the word cheat. Yes Dynamite is a catchy, peppy tune that you cant get out of your head. You can not tell me that it's their best work. Getting them to #1 was handled very well by Bit Hit and all involved. 4 - Regarding military service, Yes, BTS members have stated that they will be happy to served if called. Do you expect them to say something else? I am sure none of them wat to leave the comfortable lifestyle they lead to enter the military. This is absolutely normal. They are also a year apart military service would put BTS out of commission for years. According to Fortune magazine there is proposed legislation in Korea at this moment delaying military service to those who have made "Great Contribution in pop culture" Young men would have the option to postpone service for those who's "Career peeks in their 20"s". Interesting how this is being discussed while BTS is on top. 5 - Does Dynamite deserve the #1 spot? Compared to their complete body of work I would say not. I wrote "Dynamite, Really?" referring to you calling it a "Masterpiece". Spring Day is a masterpiece.

@@rinadamato9132 In the interest of clarity (since others are apparently waiting for this), i pasted my clarification and your response. And then put my response after “my response” YOU SAID: Also please understand that I am a BTS fan ======MY RESPONSE: stating you are a fan of BTS doesn’t give credibility to what you are about to say. If you are confident your opinion is valid, it doesn’t matter whether you are a fan or not. Stating you are a BTS fan or a fan of anything before throwing criticism only makes you defensive, not honest or credible. 1) *they compromised their disposition and personal conviction to hit #1* ⇒ Yes, I believe they did. ======MY RESPONSE: So, just because they stated that their goal was Billboard Hot100 #1 and Grammy, that means they will do anything to reach that goal? Following that logic, does this mean that all the other goals they publicly declared, they also compromised their disposition and personal conviction to get them? So, they were so desperate to get to #1 and get a Grammy that they sold out? Possibility is different from actuality and probability. It is possible I will become the president of the USA. It is possible I will marry Brad Pitt. the probability is lower than zero. However, if that is what you believe, i have 0 interest in changing that. I have learned that people will believe what they want to believe. I was just curious. Thanks for responding. 2) *they are mature business-wise but not artistically or personally?* ⇒ Never did I state that they were or are not wise artistically or personally. They are however wise business men. As I said they are a money making machine, both they and Big Hit knows this. This does not negate their talent or conviction in any way. There are fans who would love to participate buy can't financially. This is the nature of the business. They are mature business wise and extremely talented artistically. ======MY RESPONSE: you did, however, state that they lowered their artistic standards to get to #1. So lowering their artistic standards to get to #1 and possibly win an award, for you, is a sign of artistic and personal maturity? Yes, they are a cash machine. I just want to put it out there, however, that they deserve to get paid for their work. They create a lot of QUALITY content. They should get paid more. That is the basic of economics. You work, you get paid if people want to consume that work. It doesn’t require an advanced business degree. BUT I also just want to put this out there… they give away just as many free contents. I will go out on a limb and say they give the most free contents of all idols. All of their solo albums and songs are free. Vlive, weverse, cover songs… they were the first to broadcast their concerts on youtube for free. They have a free show. They communicate directly with fans for free. So, if you pull back and balance their paid and free contents, it’s justifiable. Not a 50-50 ratio but reasonable. 3) *They had to cheat to get to number #1* ⇒ Again, never did I say the word cheat. Yes Dynamite is a catchy, peppy tune that you cant get out of your head. You can not tell me that it's their best work. Getting them to #1 was handled very well by Bit Hit and all involved. ======MY RESPONSE: You said in your previous statement ‘chart manipulation’. so, manipulating the charts is not cheating? I mean, if that’s your standard… hey… no judgment. Just curious. 4) *They will use this as a ground to get military exemption* ⇒ regarding military service, Yes, BTS members have stated that they will be happy to served if called. ======MY RESPONSE: I do not remember them saying they will “be happy to serve”. I remember them saying, they will serve when called. I thought it was a very clever way of putting it but i expected no less from BTS. So, your assumption that BTS will use BB hot100 to get a military exemption is based on your own deduction and not actual facts, right? Because the fact is that Big Hit, IN WRITING, stated they MAY BE ABLE TO DELAY Jin’s military service to the end of 2021. That is a FACT. That document is public. There is nothing that indicates they intend to get an exemption. They may be intending or wanting to get an exemption but there is no evidence that can prove that. So, anything that says otherwise is an accusation that must be proven. Them discussing the delay of military service for people with great contribution in pop culture is not interesting. It is EXPECTED and APPROPRIATE. BTS’ economic contribution competes with that of Honda. You can pretty much end the discussion there and it will still be valid. If there is any group from Korea that deserves to be considered for an exemption, it is BTS. No, it isn’t ‘interesting’. It is very much valid, overdue, and expected FROM MY PERSPECTIVE. That being said, Koreans are the only ones with the right to decide. I can only have an opinion. 5) *Dynamite doesn't deserve the #1 spot* ⇒ Does Dynamite deserve the #1 spot? Compared to their complete body of work I would say not. I wrote "Dynamite, Really?" referring to you calling it a "Masterpiece". Spring Day is a masterpiece. ======MY RESPONSE: Yes, Dynamite deserves the #1 spot. So does Spring Day, On, Fake Love, Black Swan, Fire, Dope, all Cyphers, The Last, Airplane, Friend, Euphoria, Moon, Singularity, Tear, Idol, Dionysus… actually 75% to 85% of their discography should be #1 in Billboard Hot 100. But the other songs not making it to number doesn’t disqualify Dynamite from it. One of the strengths of BTS is their versatility. They are simply prolific as performers, songwriters, and creative directors. They aren’t exclusive to one genre and Dynamite is a totally different genre from Spring Day.
