@faith2xxx3 жыл бұрын
We also need to be careful of the platforms we use to express ourselves. She knew who Trump was before she accepted the gig, and she probably did so out of the hope that this particular performance would give her more exposure and elevate her career. To me, this is similar to artists in the 80's who decided to boycott South Africa because of apartheid. All money is not good money, and sometimes you need to step back and really think things thru before taking on something you may come to regret later. She should have taken a cue from other black entertainers. She naively believed she could somehow "bring people together," yet ignored the fact the bringing people together is not something Trump is known for. He ran his entire campaign on lies and divisiveness. Should she have been cancelled? Absolutely not. She's a gifted singer. However, what really hurt a lot of Black people was she took on that gig, ignored warnings from others, without recognizing that Trump only wanted her as window dressing to try and erase the fact that he's a full blown bigot. He didn't even acknowledge her. That's what's disappointing. That was a gut punch to her, plus he used her. I hope she will be able to come back strong, but I also hope she's learned her lesson that you can't play with fire.

Let me chime in to say instead of dealing with the fact she took the gig, she blamed black people about not being open. So everyone flipped out on her. She wasn’t canceled… she attacked and people came back at her. Sometimes “celebrities” need to own up to what, why, and how… researchers need to look into the early conversations. Obviously she wanted or needed the money and in her justification she attacked her fan base. They wasn’t having it. So the assumptions need to stop. Feel whatever way but this I saw & read at the time of it happening. We can’t change stories AFTER the fact like “ former dude himself” as if we didn’t see what we saw or hear what we heard. Chrisette Michele should have never performed at that inauguration. Especially when so many other artists passed on the chance because they recognized all money ain't good money. With that being said, I'm over it and while her music career will likely never reach the level of success it previously enjoyed, I'm rooting for her, I'm now happy to support any music she puts out and I still listen to her older music. "A couple of forevers" is one of my favorite songs and it will be played at my wedding (whenever I get married). Also, Kirk Franklin telling her basically that the answer to her problems was to get married was stupid advice especially when the 2 of them were just in court suing each other. I'm not at all surprised their marriage ended in divorce. I wish Chrisette Michele nothing but the best.

Chrisette sings a couple of songs at Donald Trump's inauguration, it derailed her career. Meanwhile Kanye West openly supported Donald Trump, visited the White House wearing a MAGA hat, even gave Trump a cameo role in his music video and it never ruined his career. Kanye never got the backlash that Chrisette Michell did. That doesn't make any sense at all.

Here’s the lesson in this: All money is not good money. Chrisette ‘forgot’ the majority, if not the entirety of her fan base is black. Name a white person who’s a fan…. I’ll wait 🤫. Black people, especially black women are ostracized when they don’t ‘align’ in our community 🤦🏾♀️. She sung when EVEN the white mainstream celebrities turned that down because they knew that would detrimental to their careers in the long run. Kanye has a global fan base. He knew he could recover because he’s internationally known, attached to the kardashians, very popular shoes AND the black community holds a different standard for black women and black men 👎🏾.

I believe the cancellation of Chrisette Michele was completely blown out of proportion. Black folks (specifically black women) had no problem vehemently cancelling this woman out. Up to that point, Chrisstte's record was practically clean. Chrisette had a lovely voice, pleasant attitude and image. That wasn't good enough. She had roughly two years of balls to the walls mainstream gloss and then it just sorta fizzled out. If that was a Beyoncé Carter performance, black would've reacted differently. That I can guarantee. I know she wouldn't have done it, but the key word is *'IF'* she would've done it. Also, her fans stopped supporting her music. The American music market is a very fickle place to be. The first, second and third years are usually great for artists if they have the right promotion. Chrisette's label stopped supporting her for whatever reason. She tried the independent thing and the fans basically disappeared. Americans still need to see artists w/ mainstream gloss in order for them to receive support. The independent route seems like a dead end which is why the fans move on to other mainstream artists. Let's face it, nobody's interested in the now old-fashioned flavor of singing. They want it dumbed down and auto-tuned up. Deep down inside, I believe that every artist(s) has they time to shine. In Chrisette's case, she only had two years of mainstream gloss. Nowadays, Americans want female artists to be more fantasy-based and driven. That means ½ naked, over the top hair & makeup, etcetera. Dare I say, the majority of black women want Megan Thee Stallion to represent them. They don't want Chrisette Michele or Jazmine Sullivan.
@RaquelCGary3 жыл бұрын
So what if that girl sang at the inaugural, Travis Greene, a gospel star also sang with Chrisette at that same event and no one cancelled him.
