The only thing that make me hesitant to start mining at y=6 now is the lava lakes, which will significantly slow down mining. I don't know if it is worth the increased diamond generation

I actually just used the carpet mod to analyze 2 different 512×512 areas between heights 0 and 16 and add them together. And I found, more diamonds at Y=8, with just a 9% different from level Y=10 😅

Xisuma slaving away with the remove datapack to leave just diamond ore... Then proceed to use world edit. Xisuma you derp. You could've just typed: //pos1 -250,0,-250 //pos2 250,256,250 (this will create a 500x256x500 selection) //replace !diamond_ore,deepslate_diamond_ore air and you would've achieved the same thing in about 30 seconds...

It would be funny if the generation of normal diamond ore is unchanged and it's just the addition of the deepslate ore that makes the difference. Because then technically they haven't change the distribution of ores (that were available before)

This change sucks, because before you could always explore caves as you were going above lava, and also being on one of the best layers. Now, if you want to be on the most efficient level, not only will you encounter stupid ass lava rivers underground, but you will also never see any caves since you are too low.

If you have lava pouring above you, place the water on the upper wall so the water source touches the lava. Lava flows slow enough to where you can react fast enough to look right or left and right click a water bucket onto stone.

The one issue not taken into account is lava, which has its "sea level" at y11, which is why a lot of us mine at that level. If you're blindly branch mining at y6, you're going to have lava pour out at you or on top of you every so often.

@@JardsonJean Since the update, diamond distribution has been nerfed to all hell making finding diamonds almost impossible. The reason of this was because there was an error where most of the diamonds you would normally find were to be moved to the deep levels of the world. That being like under Y: 0 and all that. Problem with that is that in bedrock we don't have access to that area yet until we get it at 1.18 coming at the end of this year. TLDR: Diamonds were moved down lower to where we bedrock players can't get access to, making diamonds as rare as...sort like emeralds.

Most people mined at y11 because it was the same level that lava pools would spawn, and those lava pools are usually connected to large cave systems, so and you would run into some deep caves more often.

The calculation that accounts for exposed blocks while mining acts as a low-pass filter of the data, removing high frequency noise or "smoothing out" the data. Because the center of the kernel you filter with isn't in the center, the shift in the data makes sense too.

Great video! I was actually really surprised by the results. I'd love to see a more in-depth look at this. I'm pretty sure I saw Gnembon do this on a large scale with ancient debris using carpet mod and I'm wondering if something similar is possible. One other thing that might make a difference in the results is the fact that, when mining, you tend to mine the entire ore vein, not just where it intersects with the visible area, so in the case of mining at y=6, some of these diamond ore blobs would be cut off by bedrock where the stretch downwards. I'm not sure if this would actually affect mining rates though.

I always thought the game was always like what you've found out in this video. Best to mine at Y5 but do it at Y11 because there isn't too much of a difference and you will be walking above any lava-logged caves in caves rather than into them.

@Xisumavoid, I personally feel this test should be done again. But you replace all blocks below Y17 with Barrier blocks that aren't Diamond related or Lava related. This is because, your score might be true, if you mine at a certain level. But you haven't subtracted minus score for the amount of Lava that one might stumble into. Because I've found that a lot of diamonds on lower levels tend to hide themselves INSIDE lava lakes rather than with mine-able reach.

The clay patch method is viable but there seems to be a small difference on how to obtain diamonds on it now if you go 3 blocks south from clay patch centers in swamps you can find diamonds and 2 blocks north in rivers as well

Mining diamonds at y11 is still better in 1.17 part 1 because you are right above lava and you will still have a lot of caves, where as y5 had almost no caves and goes right into the lava. The stratagies aren't only based on diamonds.

@@kawaiime2077 Because they forgot to change the distribution. Because of that, in newly generated 1.17 chunks diamonds are extremly rare.
