In this video, I examine the Warrens major cases and how they capitalized on their paranormal falsehoods with lucrative book deals, lecture circuits, and eventually a cinematic universe. This is essentially a massive debunking video of the Warrens.

A couple of people have commented on Ed's grooming which I avoided using language it as such due to being scared of the algorithm nicking me and then being frustrated not knowing why KZbin did that. I should have avoided talking about that part of The Warrens life if I wasn't very clear! What Ed did was grooming and sexual assault of a child. This is wrong!

I totally agree and everything was demons despite the fact that their claims contradict the biblical explanation of how demons work and the rules they follow. I met Lorraine a few times over the years and I think she actually believed in what she was doing and he used her and his ability to control her to his advantage. The thing I can’t forgive is the conjuring two a case they were not invited to be part of or took a large part in unlike in the movie. I really felt sorry for Maurice who had been with the family from the beginning and had given everything to help them but Ed tried to convince them that he was a fraud and he is barely in the movie. I hate how by the third film they turned Ed into some sort of action hero despite it being obvious that the real Ed couldn’t have done any of the things he did in the movies.

Omg I know, right? As a kid I heard the Annabelle doll story and it really creeped me out. Then came the time where I actually SAW the doll Lorraine was so terrified of, and it's frickin Raggedy Anne. C'mon, at least pick a creepy Victorian porcelain doll if you want to sell its sinister qualities. Honestly, those two fabulous actors are responsible for the positive image and popularity of the Warrens today. Only Vera Farmiga can make 70s fashion look good! And Patrick Wilson is the dream devoted husband. I adore their on-screen relationship. The real Ed and Lorraine were nowhere near as charismatic or as skilled as the movies portray. I think Lorraine believed in her 'gifts' but also had the kind of odd flaky personality that comes with believing one's own imagination is actionable fact. I think Ed, being Catholic and wanting to be a famous and righteous hero figure, wanted to believe as well, but underneath their wacky folie a deux, they were also grifting a living and getting attention. Conning people can be very lucrative and much less labor intensive as a 9-5 job.

As a Catholic I can confirm that true exorcism is a rarity. My mom was a Eucharistic Minister and she was close to the parish priest. She was always curious about ghosts and such so she asked him. He told her that exorcisms are exceedingly rare and that all other causes of the person's troubles must be eliminated before even considering moving forward with an exorcism. Oh and yeah, you gotta be clergy to perform or assist in an exorcism. The Warrens were absolute frauds.

I use to be a landlord in a very active building and when doubters would move in they would discount what I'd have to say. After 6 months their attitude would do a 180 and the smug doubt would be gone. We as humans have no idea what makes up reality so having an open mind is essential if one wants to have a clue. There has to be a billion ghost stories in the history of mankind so even if you could whittle it down by 90% that would still leave 100 million stories that logic could not explain away. You believe they don't exist you are as blind as those who believe at the drop of a hat. Sorry but no matter how hard you try you can not explain everything away.

@@carolusrex5213 you are correct in what you are saying but it isn’t as simple as that in the case of the Warren’s. Although they worked with that dubious to say the least priest he did not really perform the exorcisms and most were never sanctioned by the church. Ed declared himself a demonologist despite the fact that he was not one and used the title to justify himself qualified to perform them. He was threatened multiple times with excommunication by the church but the priest often took the blame for it and he avoided it. Ed was a master manipulator not only of Lorraine but of the priest himself and he was extremely successful in controlling the entire operation.

Yep, I got some exorcism training from the largest Protestant communion of churches in the US: Same even there. The only time they suggested doing an exorcism for 99.999% of these 'exorcism' cases, was if it was with a health provider to attempt to get someone with an illness to *think* they are being helped. (Usually perform a blessing and then to tell them that they need therapy for their traumas in the aftermath, not to like, perform some battle with some demon or some dumb shit.) Doing things like taking the lords name in vain, or being disrespectful or towards the Church, or denying God/Christ are literally notable signs of 'this being a fake possession/someone wanting attention or who have a mental illness' because that goes against all traditions of what demons are supposed to act like. That's fictional demonic ideas. Its pop culture.

Most of the alleged hauntings investigated by these two scammers have been debunked. Bathsheba Sherman wasn't a "child/baby killer", she wasn't a witch/Satanist or whatever, and she didn't die from hanging, with a broken neck, either. Bathsheba's great-granddaughter has spoken out about the lies told by both the Warren's and by the movie. Bathsheba Sherman was a loving wife and mother. She gave birth to 6 children ( I think) and lost a few due to illness ( not uncommon in those days). She died around the mid 1950's or early 60's, due to her health rapidly declining from the after affects of a massive stroke. With the Amityville case, Lorraine claimed to be in contact with the spirit/ghost of Butch DeFeo! Yep, there is a recording of Lorraine ( both film and audio) "speaking" to the ghost of a VERY MUCH LIVING PERSON!! She even claimed that he had committed "silverside" ( hey, it's KZbin! Gotta think of something 😂) due to him no longer being "possessed". ( Her words). So anytime I hear about Ed and Lorraine Warren being involved in an investigation, I don't believe a word of it!

99% of the reason anyone believes Ed and Lorraine Warren is because of how great Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga play them. They do such a great job that you want to believe. The real Ed and Lorraine have basically 0 charisma and were definitely charlatans, and Ed was definitely very creepy. @@michaelmiradezandband you are partially correct but Lorraine is very misunderstood and gets branded with the same thing as him I personally knew her and she was not the person people think. Ed was abusive to her and extremely controlling of everything she did and said and he got worse after their daughter was born. The problem was that by the time she realised what he was doing she was trapped because they had come to the attention of the media. She was left with no option but to continue doing what he wanted despite the fact she knew that they were conning people into believing lies that he had her rehearse. It’s not well known that the Annabelle doll in the so called museum is not the original one it was replaced after the original got mould in it and started to rot. I only ever met him twice and both times he was very drunk and he was wandering around the room playing with the objects in their and talking about how he had come up with some of the back stories for them. Lorraine was very sweet I know that she truly hated what she was doing and she tried more than once to expose them as frauds but he was not going to let that happen. I corresponded with her until she died and my biggest regret was that I couldn’t go to her funeral because I was in hospital at the time. And as a native i sure as hell dont want land that was stolen to be built upon if it was once a burial ground (or at all but that's besides the point). Also take into consideration that these native burial grounds were protected by ritual and spritual practices and most were also protected against even other tribes from interfering. Its not all about "oh no scary indian people who put curses on the white man" and its more "we as white people know historically how natives used to run their land and i dont wanna mess with all that". Now, that being said, it is used in media grossly and that needs to stop. All burial grounds are sacred, we just take it more seriously.

@@RationalEra There's also the general spectrum of hypnagogic phenomena that often explains ghostly behaviour. I grew up in a house that was purported to be haunted, and the only experiences I had that could fall into that category were things I have come to realise were obvious (and text book) hypnagogic auditory hallucinations and sleep paralysis. If you're not the sort of person who is likely to question what you're seeing or hearing, it's quite easy to see how you might reach for supernatural explanations - especially if you were to come from a religious background that might come with tales of things like demons and ghosts.

I love some good old charlatans as much as the next person, but when I talk to someone who claims the Warrens weren't conmen I kind of want to exit the conversation as fast as possible. As I kid/early teen I used to see ghosts at night as I was lying in bed. I'd see them walking up the stairs to the attic through the doorway and I was terrified. I soon enough learned I was suffering from sleep paralysis. This revelation caused me to look at everything with a skeptical eye and I wish people would do this as well.

I've absolutely bore witness to things I feel are paranormal... that doesn't mean the Warren's are cons. I think the issue is, sometimes we experience things we can't explain. The fact they claim the doll was antique on top of that is purely amateur. As a doll collector, I know a raggedy Ann. That doll at earliest is from the mid 60s. More than likely she’s from the 70s. Which is when the story takes place. Seems like a whole “make it scary” moment. Demons sure are real, but a cheap glass and wood cabinet isn’t going to hold a demon. Regarding the 'ghost' photo from the Amityville house, I also heard that one of the people there at the time had their young son with them, and that was who was captured in the photo. I do not recall the details. Excellent video exposing the truth about these con-artists.

Okay, so, if he had an "affair" with the full consent of his wife, that's not an affair, that's just a different relationship style. That being said, the girl was 15! That is the problem there! That, and portraying themselves as evangelical and providing fuel to that fire for profit while personally not believing or living it. Getting that out of the way, I'm not surprised by any of this, just how little anyone every covers this info. It's so funny how the movies portray them as a perfect trad couple when this shite was the reality. Like, he looks like he runs a pawn shop that't a front for the mob. He looks like I'd need to cover my drink around him.

The problem is they were Catholics who presented themselves as fighting the good battle against evil. So even with consent and let's say hypothetically that the affair started when they were adults it would still be mortal sins in Catholicism (because of premarital sex) which would send them to hell if they never confessed their sins before they died. That's my problem. The lies which would help strengthen the foundations of their religion asserting it as the "true" religion. But they didn't even live out their religion properly to begin with.

25:26 Sadly you're not wrong 😕 All throughout history any woman who was different, intelligent, powerful, rich, went against societal norms, outspoken, etc was always seen as a threat and either their life was taken from them, their name was tarnished, or all of the above (even those tied to them could be punished even women who were just connected to someone bad but did nothing wrong themselves except exist got punished for something they couldn't control) and heartbreakingly even decades, centuries, millenniums, etc after their passing their names are still blackened and the lies are still believed by some people (Joan Of Arc, Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth Bathory, Eleanor Of Aquitaine, Anne Askew, Hatshepsut, etc the list could go on and on) even in ghost horror movies most of the entities are angry, vindictive, and crazy women (FYI i'm not saying men weren't wronged throughout history because they were but most of the time on top of women not having any rights for most of history it was aimed at women even in third world countries it's still happening). While I agree with your takes, some of your arguments need a tinge of touching up. Specifically with Anabelle - the glass is from a steeple and had been blessed. I’m not religious in the slightest, but if we work within the framework of supernatural entities that can be held off using prayers, there’s no reason that wouldn’t work? Also the more ridiculous part of the choking is the way the doll is built - it’s literally a stuffy, it doesn’t have the strength, rigidity or weight to cause minor choking on an adult- it’s simply too soft and malleable. Finally - I think there’s lore as to why it ended up inhabiting the doll and not a person… Idk it by heart, but I know there’s some kinda lore. All of this to say; you’re not wrong, but when arguing on the grounds of religious and spiritual possession, you do have to abide by their rules. Now, does a massively powerful, otherworldly, fallen-angel being repelled by *thoughts and prayer xx* make any sense? No - why tf would that matter to a being beyond our comprehension 💀 BUTTTT according to many religious writings somehow these beings go “:0 ‘oh no, you said a few words, now I gotta go back to hell I guess’ :/“

This was a good episode though I have seen a much more in-depth analysis of Ed and Lorraine’s work under scrutiny this was short and straight to the point. It is important to understand the power of story telling and the narrative in which it is told as it directly can influence your beliefs as evident of the supposed motorcycle crash after challenging Annabelle yet no records exist. This story most definitely influences us to fear and believe Annabelle is real. However it’s equally important to do your own research into claims and not blindly believe everything you hear.
