DC Comics's Superman franchise, based on the character of the same name created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in June 1938, has seen the release of various films since its inception.[1] The character debuted in cinemas in a series of animated shorts beginning in 1941, and then was the protagonist of two movie serials in 1948 and 1950. An independent studio, Lippert Pictures, released the first Superman feature film, Superman and the Mole Men, starring George Reeves, in 1951. In 1973, the film rights to the Superman character were purchased by Ilya Salkind, Alexander Salkind, and Pierre Spengler. After numerous scripts and several years in development, Richard Donner was hired as their director, and he shot two films, Superman (1978) (marketed as Superman: The Movie), and Superman II (1980), at the same time, both starring Christopher Reeve. Donner had already shot eighty percent of Superman II before it was decided to finish shooting the first film. The Salkinds fired Donner after Superman's release and commissioned Richard Lester as the director to finish Superman II. Lester returned to direct Superman III (1983). The Salkinds also produced the related spin-off Supergirl (1984). They then sold the rights to Cannon Films, which produced the poorly reviewed Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987). Ilya Salkind commissioned a fifth Superman script before Warner Bros. acquired the rights entirely in 1993.
Over the course of 11 years, Warner Bros. developed and then cancelled three projects: Tim Burton's Superman Lives, which would have starred Nicolas Cage; Wolfgang Petersen's Batman vs. Superman; and the J. J. Abrams-scripted Superman: Flyby which went between directors Joseph "McG" Nichols and Brett Ratner. In 2004, the studio hired Bryan Singer to take over the films, and released Superman Returns in 2006, starring newcomer Brandon Routh. Donner's director's cut for Superman II was also released that year. Despite positive reviews, Warner Bros. was disappointed with the financial performance of Superman Returns, and canceled Singer's proposed sequel, which would have been released in 2009. The studio nearly started production of a Justice League film with George Miller directing and D. J. Cotrona as Superman for a 2009 release, but it was shelved at the last minute in 2008.
The film series was rebooted in 2013 with Man of Steel, directed by Zack Snyder with Henry Cavill starring as Superman. Man of Steel launched what became known as the DC Extended Universe, a cinematic franchise intended to rival the highly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cavill next appeared as Superman in the DCEU films Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017) (both again directed by Snyder), and in the director's cut of Justice League, Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021); he then made a cameo appearance in the mid-credits scene of Black Adam (2022). The Flash (2023) featured Superman cameos portrayed by Henry Cavill, Nicolas Cage, George Reeves, and Christopher Reeve. Sasha Calle, along with Helen Slater, appeared as Supergirl in the film.
A new film starring the character, titled simply Superman, is scheduled for release in July 2025. Written and directed by James Gunn, and co-produced by Gunn and Peter Safran, it is intended to be the first live-action film of the DC Universe (DCU) media franchise and shared universe. David Corenswet has been cast as Superman for the film.

​@@TheDangerRandyit'll likely be fixed in post-production. You should look up behind the scenes for other superhero movies. Baggy suits allow actors to move around and it's relatively easy to fix up with CGI

I already knew this suit would be in my top 3-5 from the reveal photo but this photo definitely brings it into my top 3 next to Post Crisis Kingdom Come and S&L S3. I've never hated on the too main lines thing and the Kingdom Come logo is my preferred logo. My only real complaint is he doesn't have the New 52 red around the collar. The collar looks a little plane without it.

He had an H on is face and the rest of the word Hatred down the center of his body with the D around his... D. That is until he changed the H to a V for Venture and had the rest of the letters removed (except for the D because that area was too tender). Does this mean Mr. Terrific has a C around his... C?

NOPE❗️ They failed with the design of this suit. But people who are praising it are in denial. After seeing what it looks like close up in better lighting I 100% agree that this looks like a cosplay fan-made costume. The red underwear doesn’t help whatsoever. This ain’t the 1930s. The underwear needs to be left in the past.

My guess is that in the movie this suit is some sort of Kryptonian military uniform and by the end of the movie, Clark gets a much simpler suit made by his mom. Or I'm completely wrong and this is the definitive suit for this Superman.

I couldn’t really comment on Mr Terrific’s costume but seeing how 1:1 it is with their comic counterpart makes me happy… as for the Superman suit, minus the line-work, it’s a near-perfect modernisation of the classic look for me, right down to the underwear & yellow logo on the back.

I don’t mind line work on the suits for the most part. But I’m not a fan of the red trunks. The ‘Superman and Lois’ suit is probably the best the suit has looked. Textured suit but not too many lines, good fit and no trunks. I’ll reserve my full judgment on this new one until I see it in motion in a finished scene though.

It’s BRIGHT again. The colors scream Superman. Not the biggest fan of the lines or the high color (even though it’s pulling from the New 52), but apart from that, it’s above the Cavill suit and a notch below the Reeve suit.

Never understood people with an over obsession with a skin tight suit. Cavil and Roth suits lacked mobility and made them look like an Action figure.The baggy ness actually gives it a golden age feel to Superman . That type of realism Max Fleischer gave Superman wit h the 1940 shorts. Fans just want the most illogical skintight skin literally to only show muscles but let’s be real NONE of these actors will be Jay Cutler or Chris Bumstead in real time - inside the suit.

Refreshing Reeves-esque bright colors, a great emblem that's a mix between Kingdom Come and the old-school Fliescher cartoons (that's where the yellow outline comes from), New 52 collar that's not intrusive and really helps this one standout, no rubber muscle nonsense, nice linework, the grand return of the red trunks, and a PERFECT cape with the yellow insignia. Personally not a huge Superman fan, but I absolutely love this suit personally! It's a perfect blending of his entire legacy into one complete design! 9/10 for me!😁

As a former critic of the Gunn Superman suit my advice to anyone who doesn't like it is you need to give it a chance. Don't focus so much on what you don't like about it. The things the suit gets right are what matters. This is the first honest attempt at getting back to the iconic look of Superman. Brightening the colors, bringing back the red trunks and yellow emblem on the cape. The Gunn suit needs to be given a chance, to be seen in action. It has potential and in time I think you will find it is not as bad as you think it is.

My theory is that this is NOT his actual Superman suit. I think it will be revealed in the movie... This suit is the one his Mom made him and it will get battle damaged causing him to get a Kryptonian inspired suit (hopefully with an Updated S)

The suit looks... fine. A bit too cheap looking, and not in a fun or charming way. The extra line work is dreadful and unnecessary, but the coloring is AWESOME. Overall, I'm mixed on it. It's not boldly different enough like Snyder's and it's not traditional enough like Returns. It's somewhere in between and it doesn't sit right with me for now. And this may be a bit of a hot take, but I absolutely despise that logo. Doesn't look remotely like an S. Looks like a slash. Is this Slashman? I don't think so. I know its from the comics, but it doesn't mean I have to like it. Snyder/Cavil's logo was my favorite because of how much a recognizable S it was, and the proportions of it were dynamic, interesting, and had a good sense of flow to it, like it was organic.

I just want to get this off my chest real quick to me Henry Cavil being cast as Superman was great but the problem with that adaptation of Superman was he was posed as a God and Superman isn't a God, the best adaptation that really show a great Superman are for example, Superman and Lois and Christopher Reeve Superman, now those are what I call being Superman.

Looks like it's loosely modled to his build, especially given the material it looks to be made of and how thick it is in some areas. Given how much effort he put in at the gym, Id have gone for the muscle padding approach they took in MoS. That was the only one of those movies where the suits padding didnt look blatant. It had a more natural and sublte appearance, as though he really were a Kryptonian, and not an actor that would whos muscles would be compressed and look smaller do to the tight fabric. They could still keep the colors other details, but the suit wouldnt mask the efforts snd hours put in at the gym by the actor. Right now, he kinda actually looks bigger in his reporter clothes 😅

I honestly like the baggy-ness. It feels more tangible that way as a "real" suit would most likely be like that as well. They feel to me like having cloth stretch on a Spider-Man suit, they're something I want to see on it especially if they go down the Martha made it for him route. I honestly have no interest in seeing a "perfect" looking suit on screen, I really liked Henry Cavill's suit but I'd be lying if I said that I thought it looked like something you could easily move around in and his overall look didn't scream homegrown Kansas farm boy it felt very...Vogue. This honestly makes him relatable and more how I envision Superman, he's kinda dorky and this honestly helps sell that.
