The 2018 with integrated front cowls and lamp just looks all wrong to me and must be a pig to maintain and adjust if necessary. Oh, and original Fatboys are not comfy. They may look very similar to the Heritage Softail, but the Fatboys fancy pig skin leather seat is much thinner in padding. You'll be lucky to get 50 miles on it when new before a numb arse, and work your way up to 100 miles over a year or so. In the 60k+ miles its done, I've had a rider's seat re-fluffed twice ! The seating position is not the same between the two bikes as the handlebars and grips were set better on the older one to provide more comfort at least for shorter drivers like myself. Also I have the impression that the hand controls on the new bike are farther apart from the grips compared to the old one. I could be wrong but that’s the impression I get. I almost bought a 2019/114 FB . . . . BUT . . . I thought for $27,000 CAD I better fall in love with this thing! So . . . I rented one for a weekend off my local dealer from his demo fleet. Cost me $200 CAD . . . money well spent. First impressions of the 2019: I like the new front headlight design. I hate the fenders . . . especially the rear . . . too short IMHO. I ABSOLUTELY HATE the larger tires . . especially the rear . . . too wide. Takes noticeably more effort in the twisties. Stock HD suspension on the 2019 FB IS STILL CRAP . . . just like all their bikes. I HATE the Throttle By Wire . . . . nothing beats properly set throttle cables. Yes . . . the 114 M8 makes a bit more power than the 103 TC . . . but not the night and day difference I expected . . . and no . . . I am not spending 6000+ to give the 103 more power. If have the urge to go faster, I will ride my 2008 Honda CBF1000 that day and beat almost anything out there and it only cost me $4700 CAD. Yes I have 2 Hondas and a Fatboy. :) So . . . went looking for a nice 2017 or older FB which I like the overall, traditional FB look better anyway. Found a MINT, one-owner 2013 FB Lo with 10,000 miles on it. Had about $4000 CAD in nice accessories on it including V&H Big Long Shots and SE Ventilator Air Cleaner. Bought it for $12,000 CAD ($9000 USD) Cash. Bike included ALL the OEM parts. BONUS! Rode it home 18 miles. HATED the V&H pipes. WAY TOO LOUD! HATED the stock rear suspension. Once home (same day), I took off the V&H pipes and SE Air Cleaner and installed the stock pipes and air filter. AWESOME! Sold those parts for $700 CAD. Next day ordered Progressive Suspension 422C Heavy Duty Rear shocks and Fork Springs which cost about $900 CAD. They arrived a week later and I installed the PS shocks at there highest position. Took it for a ride and WOW! No more bottoming out. LOVE IT! Following weekend we did the PS fork springs and set the steering head bearings. WOW AGAIN! Next Monday, installed a set of Michelin Commander 3s after taking of the CRAP Dunlops. DOUBLE WOW!!!! Now, I love this bike!!!!! I am 5' 7" and it fits me like a glove with stock handlebars and floorboards. It handles very well with no bottoming out. It is quiet and does not kill my ears or piss off the neighbors. I cruises all day long at 70-75 MPH and gets 60+ Miles per Canadian Gallon of gas. Even at 70 MPH it has enough passing power to feel safe when needed. I will do a bit over 100 MPH but it loves 70-75 at under 3000 RPM. What else do I need???? Just my opinion and overall opinion . . . for less than half the price of a new Fatboy . . . I have exactly what I always wanted.

Understand I don’t ride a Fatboy because I can’t afford an Ultra ! I ride a Fatboy because it’s the most beautiful Harley Davidson ever made and it was always my favorite period. This totally changed bike is far closer to the VRod that got killed off, Ironically the Fatboy was killed off as well, only they kept the name and logo. But when I walk around this new bike, it feels more like a VRod, not a Fatboy. The fact that we are even having this conversation don’t vote well for the new VRod, I mean Fatboy, my bad , or rather HD’s Bad.

The new Fatboy don’t measure up. When HD modified the 2012 to a 103 ci and widened the frame to accommodate much wider rubber that was a very nice upgrade that kept the old school styling and look. But the total remake in 2018 is a totally different bike with Fatboy badging. Personally, HD in my opinion made a huge marketing mistake by stealing the Fatboy name and putting it on a totally different bike that in its own merits is a good bike but now has to live up to a pedigree that just is not possible. HD should have given this bike a brand new identity, not one it can never live up to.This marketing blunder will not help sales. If HD wanted to kill of the Fatboy, that’s fine. Just don’t still a non -transferable Identity and history. Ironically, though this total remake is not water cooled, it has more in common with the VRod that was also killed off. In my first initial disappointing walk around, I was feeling VRod, again another marketing mistake by HD.

I don't classify the 2018 as a fatboy. Just cause it's got solid wheels and fat tires and a wider frame don't make it one. I understand things need to evolve but 06,07 were slight changes were ok. It might be pigeon holed but 2018 was a complete revamp and not for the better in my opinion. The terminator movie was when i fell in love with the bike. They should have changed the heritage softtail instead. Since it was similar to the fatboy.

No, HD made a marketing blunder in my opinion. The Fatboy was actually killed off and the name should have been retired as well. This new bike is more reminiscent of the VRod even though it’s not liquid cooled. Say what you want, think what you want. But the fact that some yrs after the release of this remake, everyone won’t stop comparing them. That does not speak well for the remake. Also in what I’ve read, this remake is a absolute MFR to have to work on. Here’s the bottom line, solid wheels do not make this remake a Fatboy. My experience in my initial walk around of the remake was a disappointment. Had it been called a VRod??, it would have been more favorable in my opinion. My assessment? The remake is a poor representative of the Iconic Fatboy we all love, as I said , the fact that we are still having this conversation means it’s a bust and unworthy. Yea, it’s faster, but a Big Yamaha will still eat its lunch, besides it it was all about going fast, I’d be on easier to maintain faster Yamaha. Yes, this is my experience, I’ve got a beautiful 2012 Fatboy Lo, and that big menacing Yamaha that requires much less maintenance both in work and cost. But hey go buy the newby if you like it and earmark a sizable budget to have the thing worked on by techs because as I said it’s a mother to work on. And I disagree I would never take a Milwaukee 8 over a 110 or a 103 for that matter, but that’s just my preference.

I like the old school look and design, currently at the stage of what to choose between a early model Fatboy or a later model with the milwaukee 8 engine that has more grunt, especially on the long hauls of 12 hours or more. Or do i go with a softtail. The full fenders is what attracts me, especially if your riding in wet weather most of the time. I think that what puts me off the latest FatBoy, color choice is minimal.

I'm also in Tallahassee, I run a hot rod / paint shop. Actually used to paint for the Tally Harley store. Anyway, I ride a 1990 Fatboy and love it. Its not my XZ11, but its a great riding OG bike. Love it.

Notice you didn’t mention turning. I have an 01 and really fell in love with the new model (except the headlight, not a fan) until I actually rode the new one. My 01 corners like a gp sport bike compared to the new one. Fat back tire looks great, but destroyed it’s ability to corner. I’ll stick to my 01 thanks.

I have an 2018 FLFB and its a steamroller, as far as handling is concerned I traded in a 2007 FXD so yeah needless to say there was a little bit of a handling difference there was a learning curve so to speak but I found that once I picked a line on my softtail and rode it out it is a very capable handler now does it handle like my FXD did ? no two different animals but I have found a confidence on the Fatboy that belies it size and I think its inaccurate for you to say they have destroyed the bikes handling capabilities.

After riding almost every kind of motorcycle made since I was 11 years old (I'm 70 now and have owned 5 different Harleys and about 40 other bikes) and even professionally racing some I can tell you for certain that a half hour ride tells you nothing about any motorcycle. Vibration of the motorcycle at idle means nothing!!! I prefer riding the older Harleys before they put balancers in the motors to smooth them out. They have a distinct soul...the newer Harleys have much much less because they run so smoothly. They don't really even sound like a real Harley anymore....Not a bad video, but no real substance here.
