I've always said that 'uptown funk' "stole" from 'Jam', i just can't believe it's not brought up more in conversations

Probably because it's MJ, people love to talk about the Billie Jean base line or how he didn't create the moonwalk (he never claimed he did) but when it the other way nothing is said, I genuinely think to people outside music, he rarely gets the credit he deserves

@@robcmore2004 The Billie Jean Bassline thing is also misconstrued. He admitted that he did subconsciously use that bassline from Hall and Oates and he told one of them and they said that they didn't even noticea and love the song regardless.

@STARK0181 that's the thing, al art regardless of its form is inspired by something else to a certain degree. That baseline in Billie Jean, is in fact in a whole load of songs, one of hall and oates was a huge Curtis Mayfield fan and guess who had a song with an extremely similar baseline

Not rip-offs, but all three songs appear to be a homage to the disco era.
