I think most people say that because his music is less appealing audibly. I rarely see anyone say he "lost it" referring to lyrical ability. He was never so hellbent on wordplay before his return in '09. Today, that basically his sole focus, and while it's undeniably impressive, it's also at the sacrifice of making great sounding music. I have no doubt he can still flow like he did in 2002, but he's obviously choosing not to in favor of bending words and wordplay. It's his choice, but I don't disagree with people who notice it and say it's not as replayable or easy on the ears.

But at the same time its intelligent, for me being a long time em fan it makes it replayable just for me to try and understand exactly what he is referencing or trying to paint a picture in words to. I also understand that not everyone wants to listen to music and break it down to try and understand lol. I will disagree with the "its not easy on the ears" but to each their own. people have their own artists or type of music they like and i respect that.

Shakespeare, Byron, Mozart, Oscar Wilde. All people that were controversial as well as loved in their time. Their greatness is still widely acknowledged and studied today. Eminem is that artist of our time. People should appreciate him more. It’s very lucky to be living at the time of one of these greats and being able to witness their work first hand.

Em is definitely a poetic genius. I think there is definitely a level of recognition by people who aren’t just fans of hip hop, but they don’t truly understand, because they don’t dive deep enough into his catalog to really get it. His use of the English language to convey his message is second to none. As you have pointed out many times he can rhyme anything with anything else, and he still makes it all make sense. Someday there will be literature classes studying his lyrics like there are now for Shakespeare, etc.

WTF when you break it down it's insane. Even the whole Cardi B scheme. Nobody would think to rhyme "black widow" with "attracts men though" let alone "capital". Eminem basically has unlocked a way to talk about or say anything and make it rhyme. Most rappers think "okay... Capital.... that rhymes with Impractical.... or compatible.... then I'll put a word at the end of that line to start a new rhyme pattern and switch it up on the next line" or at best will rhyme 2 words per bar. Eminem completely re-designed how raps can be written and actually sound more pleasing to the ear than basic rhymes. It's something a lot of rappers could learn how to use to improve their skills to create songs they never would otherwise. Then you add in accents and lingo into that equation and it's endless. But most just stick with the melodies and emotion behind the song which can absolutely make a great song, but if someone like Drake for instance who is known for rap can't seem to rhyme unless it's a direct rhyme.
