I can’t imagine why anyone would ever want to learn combustion bending. It seems to one of the most destructive abilities, to the USER. You get hit hard on the head, you could risk dying. Everyone we’ve ever seen use this ability has killed themselves with it.

Kuvira has appeared in a couple other Zaofu episodes prior to this. In 3x06 when Team Korra first arrived at Suyin's home, she's one of the Metalbenders practicing and is also on the front page of the newspaper Lin was reading at the end of that episode. In 3x09 she's one of the Metalbenders fighting Zaheer and is later being interrogated by Aiweii

THere were head canons that say, Airbenders of back then can fly, see how the first airbenders in The Beginnings episode of Avatar Wan where they can float using air... However, when airnomads started to take care of Flying Bisons, they permanently attached themselves to the bisons (a bison is a friend for life) and trusted the bisons to fly them instead of flying by themselves. :D

Those Airbenders during the time of the Lion Turtles were just using air current the same way modern Airbenders use tornado to fly. It's not true self-propelled flight aka weightlessness.

What is quite "hard" to watch with this season is that compared to Amon or Unalok which was baddies with "political"'s agenda. They want to reform the world through multiple steps and destroy balance to the world (in Avatar's perspective). But ... in this season, the "political"'s agenda is directly directed to the concept of Avatar. Therefore, it's not a confrontation to save people, a city, a culture. It's a confrontation to save her life. They don't plot, they don't schemes, they are just here to kill the Avatar. I think it's what make me feel so bad for Korra. There is always bad people, but these one want to destroy her, and it's not even because of the choice she made.

First time I saw P'Li implode herself like that, it left me pretty shocked. I thought the Earth Queen's death was going to be the last time this season would shock me, but nope! This was just savage. Su is savage. The Tonraq/Korra vs Zaheer was one of my favorite parts, especially the part where Korra rolled under Tonraq while he simultaneously jumped over her. They were just so in sync and I loved seeing that father-daughter dynamic in the fight. Bolin lavabending was also one of my favorites as well! You can literally see his face going from desperation to acceptance within seconds. He knew death was immediate for all of them yet he accepted it and charged forward. Don't know if you noticed but the way Zaheer is flying around is very similar to how the air bison would fly around. Kinda neat lol! RIP Northern Air Temple...it has been through so sooo much honestly.

13:59 Aang could not fly like Zaheer cause, if you remember Aang's time on lion turtle, avatar Yangchen told Aang that his soul duty is to the world therefor he can not let go of his eartly attachments. Anyways, Aang had avatar state and can fly with it.

My personal opinion is that all avatars can fly. To go into the avatar state (by choice) you have to let go of all things that bind you to the earth (at least temporarily) just like laghimas poem. I consider aang to fly during the avatar finale, yes he’s in an air ball but it’s not like he’s touching any of the sides he’s levitating in the center

Funfact: you guys mention that even Aang doesn't have the hability to fly, one of many reasons is hes attachment to Katara (we can see that in the book 2 finale when Aang find that monk!)

@@SamuelPetrikov I get what you mean. But I don’t think they thought of aang flying as an ability really. They probably saw it as more of the avatar doing crazy avatar stuff😂 things like this is also hard to theorize because the lore of flying airbenders wasn’t created until legend of korra. But even if the flying that aang did wasn’t the same as zaheer, I believe that any avatar could theoretically fly. To fly you have to let go of earthly tethers and in the last airbender when guru patik (not sure how to spell that) was teaching aang to master the avatar state he had to let go of what attaches him to the world (temporarily)

Aang could never fly like Zaheer, no matter how much he meditated simply because he is the avatar and he is attached to everything to the world. He wants to help people, he needs his friends and family to be whole and will always be attached. Zaheer on the other hand can let go of everything. When he lost Pli, he finally had no attachments at all and so unlocked the ability to fly and become wind.

This episode absolutely blows itself out of the water. Our heroes took one step closer: getting Tenzin, "eliminating" one of the four main Red Lotus members, also took two steps back: losing Korra while not even getting their Air Nomads. Team Avatar (& friends) thought they were in control, but in reality Zaheer was always calling the shots. If it wasn't for Kai, Zaheer would've won, he would've accomplished his goal (no spoilers). It's here where my enjoyment for the show fell off, replaced by an obsession that carried me all the way until the series finally & subsequent comics. I don't understand how people waited each week when the show first aired, the desire to continue watching because too great. Luckily it was Friday when I got to this point, so I could binge it until the end-RIP sleep schedule. Meesh, I hope you understand where I'm going with that, & as someone who had watched it week-to-week, would love to hear your experiences. Dee, I hope you enjoy the rest of the series as much as we all did/do. Alright, ciao ciao for now! =^._.^=

I have to give it to Zaheer for tricking Korra and the group with using Ming-Hua water to make fake Airbenders. But smh at Korra and tge gang for thinking Zaheer and the Red Lotus would honor the agreement. I was surprised by the way P'Li (Zaheer) girlfriend dies like damn I didn't see that one coming when I first watch the episode. But not surprised that Zaheer ended up flying. Lol at Dee Super Saiyan. Ya know rewatching this with you guys Korra’s story is so much darker than Aang’s I feel it’s def more mature and for an older audience even though it’s still a cartoon. The deaths, the villains, the trauma, it feels more relatable. Don’t get me wrong, nothing can top avatar the last airbender but dang. The end of this season and the beginning of next hit too close to home for me 😅

What I don't like about the Netflix version of The Last Airbender is, I believe they accidentally nerfed Zaheer's shocking reveal that he can fly by showing us Aang can already fly in the first episode of the live action version. Or maybe he just gliding in the air? If not, I wonder how would they copy the scene with Zaheer flying??

That's not true, they were using an air propulsion technique, just like Wan did. And didn't you notice that THEY HAD CHILDREN and Families with them? Or more easy, compare Zaheer way of flying, the air bisons and the air lion turtle to the air nomads in wan story and you'll notice they were not flying in the same way as Zaheer.

i think that’s a fair question, but i don’t think zaheer is needlessly cruel. he’ll kill for his goal, but he believes he’s working FOR the people completely, so killing the random airbenders when he doesn’t have to would be unnecessary, and he likes air bending too. so he most probably wants airbending to grow and prosper again

@@Bepfy Zaheer sure is able to subterfuge, no doubt about that. But even then a smart person knows to not lie if they don't have to. He could/ should have released part of them (less people around to guard) and keep a few (including Tenzin) as hostages, promising to release them in a few days. Much better than galvanizing everybody against them when their short time ruse blew in their faces.

Zaheer is just as bad as thanos in terms of character motivation does that make him an awesome villain? Yes and no. In the yes side Zaheer puts up of a fight and as far as no in terms of strength and power he’s far from thanos. I know this is somewhat of a character comparison but it’s similar.
