@@lcfflc3887 Yes,though agreed by all parties something feels unethical, or maybe even criminal. If the other guy bidding was a flake (how do we know who he/she..they? was), then it has to negate the whole auction, It may as well have been the original owner bidding it up to the point Jimmy was maxed out. Who was the other bidder? Even if the parties then agreed a contract, it feels like a scam, even if unwittingly (Is that a thing?) Jimmy was pushed to make a quick decision. He should have been given time to think and get advice. Seriously he seems OK about it, but Jeeez I dunno...

I worked in the airline industry at a 145 repair station years ago and have seen many aircraft in various stages of repair/disrepair. The airplane in this video is worth about 20k in scrap despite it's history and the old electronic equipment that still remain. It would cost at least 500k to make it presentable and airworthy again. Other than Elvis' name on the paperwork there isn't much to physically tie him to it. I think he was seriously taken advantage of at the very least.

I agree 100% that it's a parts plane that's about worth your estimate including maybe a few rare parts. Where I disagree is your estimate of $500K to make it presentable AND airworthy. Maybe presentable, meaning painted, stuffed and mounted somewhere, but airworthy? Never. I think the estimates of $5-6M are low and I'll bet $1 the airframe is unrepairable therefore making it a $250K doorstop. 40-year sitting with no PM, rust, rot, and rats. It would have to be torn completely apart, new avionics, new updated engines, new paint/interior, new everything. That sounds like $8-10M to me.

Repaint the outside, add mock ups of the missing engines and gauges, clean interior, frame the Elvis signed ownership document, and add a bed. Then set it up as a Air B & B on a view lot near the ski hills in Denver, the "Mile High State" . The last step is to form the "Mile High Club in Elvis Presley's' Air Plane" club and provide membership certificates to your overnight premium priced guests;-) I'll bet you could get your money back within a couple of years and then sell the A b&b business for a good profit.

@The Cruisin' Crew It will cost more than he paid for it just to paint it.. Probably twice what he paid for it minimum to even make the interior somewhat presentable.. Then probably a few hundred grand in just transportation fees hauling the thing around.. Elvis has been gone for a long time.. His hard-core fans that would actually pay money to spend the night in his jet or go to a museum to see it are past their prime to be nice about it.. This thing is only worth scrap value, and that's why it's been sitting in the desert rotting away for all these years.. There's no scenario where you restore this piece of junk and actually make money from it.. I just I hope this purchase doesn't ruin this man.. That auction house should be ashamed of themselves.. They know exactly what they did..

@@MarkLada Paint jobs for jets of that size go for around 70 grand, but that's for an airworthy paint job. I'm sure it could get done for much cheaper and ok looking if the jet is just a ground based museum piece. The seller (previous owner) had paid almost 500 grand for it, so he lost a big chunk of money on the plane. Jimmy will have a difficult time making his investment back, but who knows, maybe some Elvis collector would want it after a nice cosmetic restauration. In the meantime, Jimmy has amazing content for his channel, maybe he can also sell some scrap parts of the plane without destroying it's general appearance, run a restauration fundraiser, who knows... it may get enough attention from Jimmy's viewers that some museum might want to display it. But yeah, overall still probably a loss for Jimmy. And I agree, the auctioneers seemed shady...

Hopefully the views these videos bring in about this one dulls the pain of that purchase a bit. This is pretty cool, you have to admit! Anything is fixable. All comes down to either money or determination, or a little of both. I've seen worse restored in the automotive world! You could do something like Mikey McBrian (PlaneSavers) did up in Yellowknife with that DC-3 a few years back. People from all over chipped in and got that bird in the air again, and it record time, too! There's hope!! The spirit of Elvis might just help that whole project out a bit. 😉👍😎👍🍻

From what I have read on the interweb, there are no pictures of Elvis and this airplane. He may have bought it but there doesn't seem to be any evidence he ever flew in it. He has pictures of this plane when he owned it and his daughters remember it as well. Can't wait to hear what Jimmy has to say.

I think Elvis bought this plane to for the entourage and crew to ride on. This was not his primary plane as that was the Lisa Marie. You are right there are no records he ever flew on it or even used it. They has some things done to the plane after it was purchased and Elvis was only alive a few months after it was bought. He probably never even was onboard the aircraft.

Elvis never used this plane. If you look at the video, what Jimmy thinks is Elvis's signature is actually Vernon signing Elvis's name by power of attorney. Like the other person said, the Convair 880 was the plane Elvis used. The story I heard was the Lisa Marie was getting a little crowded and he bought the Jetstar because he planned on touring and with all the equipment loaded into the Lisa Marie, there wouldn't have been enough room for all the people, the musicians, the backup singers, the Memphis Mafia... There were A LOT of people involved in his show... It was actually the third plane that he bought.
