I feel frustrated watching FPO because to me it looks like a “participation trophy” type of tournament. Those constant 15 foot air balls over the basket are ridiculous at a professional level.
@LapoftheWorld2 ай бұрын
To be fair, FPO is just now getting to the point where it can be their "only job" though (literally and figuratively for most of the field), so I feel like this will self correct as the game grows. Other than probably Paige and Kristin, how many FPO pros are legit living comfortably and able to devote all of their time to DG practice/fitness/etc? (Missy? Ohn?) You figure eventually, with the money being there and younger generations looking up at current pros, you'll have the FPO equivalent of a Gannon show up who's both a thrower and who's done nothing but practice 40' puts all day every day, and they're going to dominate for a while and create a new "arms race" that'll lift the division as a whole.
@geneticode17412 ай бұрын
@@LapoftheWorld On the other side your case, I know many local players that are great a putting and primarily have a work life - family and play disc golf as a hobby. I totally understand your point though, it's valid.
@LapoftheWorld2 ай бұрын
@@geneticode1741 Definitely, and I think they get to that in the debate with some people looking at the current state of the game and thinking, "maybe I should make a push"...which is exactly what needs to happen. It'll just take someone making the sacrifice to their work/family/financial situation to actually go on tour without a guaranteed big pay-day.
@ClarkPotter2 ай бұрын
@@LapoftheWorldBoth OP and yourself are spot on, IMO. I used to watch FPO some bc Kristin is such a joy to watch with her smooth drives and overall game that's some of the best in disc golf, in either M/FPO. Just butter. It's inspiring and entertaining. Then you have Paige with her patented pirouette salute curtsy putting style that's better than I can imagine being, but that if I were to adopt it my frolf homies would eventually be like, dude... But I eventually cut my watching down to FPO highlights bc I got tired of watching Evalina placing third when she shanks every other 20ft'er routinely. It started feeling too cringe for me to handle. Like, I'd feel embarrassed if I did that with my buddies while drunk, and you're an elite female? Congrats to her for winning for sure, but FPO outside of Kristin just just doesn't seem legit yet. Putting doesn't require strength, just practice, and I can count on one hand how many FPO look like they've done 100k practice putts.

Having your opponent pick your donuts is just as brutal. There could be actual strategy to it too. I mean if you were playing a long course like New London do you have them eat something rich on 6 so by time they hit 9 which is a long open hole in the sun they are feeling it? You could also go for the eat all the jelly, and creme filled donuts first so they are lethargic by time they hit the back 9 though the sugar rush could blow up in your face..

You asked about what we thought of the courses. I was at Worlds this past week. I go to a couple pro tournaments a year. My favorite thing to do is to sit at an iconic hole and watch all the players come through. For example, the bridge hole at Ledgestone, the hole with the moat at the preserve, the island hole at DMC, etc. I didn't feel that there was a really interesting hole that I would want to sit at all day and watch all the players come through. I sat at Hole 7 for a while at Ivy but it was incredibly hot and it was hard to see with all the posters surrounding the hole (which were sponsor requirements I learned).

58:21 Hole Ten: A lot of people called this whole "fluky". Even on this show earlier, I believe, and now you are perfectly breaking down what a player needs to do off the tee to make it NOT fluky. Same on 14. Some of the "flukiness" of these holes is how they are being played and the shot selection used. Hole 14 FPO almost every player had a roll-away off the green because they are just tossing shots up there. MPO had a TON less roll-aways, because players are matching the angle of the hill and selecting shot shapes that were minimizing the roll-away potential.

Seemed like most guys had a 35 foot death putt for par. 14 i think is great and if it wasn’t for those couple spit outs I think the hole was sweet but the spit outs had nothing to do with the hole itself. About Isaac those courses were made for him, very few forehand holes especially on ivy, very angle dependent on your disc landing which is maybe his biggest strength, and almost no low ceilings and he’s one of the highest throwers I’ve seen that doesn’t just use height to throw over stuff
