Such a beautiful display of Jesus’ humanity and willingness to sacrifice his very life for Love.

He did not want to go through the agony in the flesh, but knew he had to in order to fulfil scripture. He was not sadist wanting to go through the pain but had to take the wrath of God in our place for us.

Bob and Ken, I don’t think y’all miss it too often, but on this one you did, and so do many others. And I don’t take the common position either. I stick with the context of the passage to explain it. Mark 14: 34, Jesus says, “My soul is deeply grieved to the point of death”. Y’all left this verse out. He was literally near death right then and there like He said. Satan wanted Jesus to die any other way, and had tried to get that done. By stoning, by being pushed over a cliff, by Herod when He was a baby. Now, in the Garden, He is grieved to the point of dying right there that night, and He prays for that not to happen, so that He can go to the cross and die the way He had said He would. He was saying, “Father, if I die here, You’re going to have to raise me, so I can go die by the Plan tomorrow. In v 35 He prays that the “hour” might pass him, not the cross. Hebrews 5:7 further explains that He was praying to be saved from death and was heard. His prayer was answered, as in Luke 22: 43, an angel comes and strengthens Him (so He would not die there). Praise Him!

The Son of Man was the true temple of God, the Father dwelt in Him. And Jesus was in perfect harmony with the Father (John 1:18-21; 14:7-11). Jesus was fully God and fully man, and it was natural as a man to cherish His body, and try to save it. Ephesians 5:29 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. Hebrews 5:5:10 5 So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him: “You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.” 6 As He also says in another place: “You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek”; 7 who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, 8 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. 9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, 10 called by God as High Priest “according to the order of Melchizedek,”

He knew his criminal activities would result in the cross…and he hoped to avoid that punishment. That’s why in Mark 14:42 he tells his underage disciples to “Get up, let’s go” when the authorities show up to arrest him as a lestes.

Jesus obviously in that very moment wanted to avoid the cross. But he was obedient unto death. We should accept what the text says.

Father Abraham was a Gentile, not a "Jew".

When Jesus was on earth, was he also in heaven? If the answer is No (which it's not), then Jesus was not omnipresent, and therefore not God, while he was on earth. If the answer is Yes (which it is), then Jesus on earth was praying to his own eternal self in heaven, which means Jesus' Father in heaven was none other than Jesus himself. *1 TIMOTHY 3:16 (KJV)* _And without controversy _*_great_*_ is the _*_mystery_*_ of godliness: _*_GOD was manifest in the flesh,_*_ justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory._
