Was there a concept of private property in Ancient India, or all of the land was owned by the King. This is the question I am trying to answer in this video.

1. On the problem of Landownership in Ancient India by G. M. Bongard-Levin
2. Ownership of the Agricultural Land in Ancient India by Lallanji Gopal.

Make a video on the history of Hill States of Himachal Pradesh. Our history is oftentimes connected with Mahabharata. For example the goddess of Kullu - Hidimba is considered to the same Hidimba whome Bheem married during vanavaasa. The kings of Rampur are said to be descendents of Krishna. I often wonder how much truth is there to these claims.

I think it’s important to remind ourselves that Megasthenes’ original work is lost. The fragments which survive are quotations in other works, the most well known being Diodorus who provides the most “complete” account of what we know today. The major downside of this is Diodorus was a careerist who took many liberties in his writings in a time of Ancient Greece when anyone who wrote about ancient India stood to gain a lot of money and fame. Writings about India were very popular and in demand and often contained information which was flat out wrong or made up. While Diodorus was better than some I fear we do not have an accurate account of what megasthenes would have said and if we go by Diodorus, how much of it is accurate or based on first hand experience.

Great video but only one question was this concept of Private property and taxes accepted by all the kings or were there any dynasties that tried to change it and implement the patliputra model all over their kingdom. Also if possible can you share your knowledge regarding the battle formations followed in ancient Indian armies.

I think Megathenese travelled extensively throughout the Empire of Chandragupta Maurya. He visited most of the kingdoms that were under the Mauryan Empire east of Taxila.
