If you see the shanti prastav incident, the war happened only because of duryodhan. As everyone of the kauravas's side accepted lord Krishna's prastav except duryodhan

Actually I m confused too in South India people worship Iravan ( son of Ullupi and Arjun) . It is said that for the war Bali( sacrifice) of the most powerful was required so that Pandavas could win. When Sri Krishna confessed this to Iravan, he said that he would not die unmarried and as no one was ready to marry him, SRI KRISHNA took his Mohini form and married him . And he sacrificed himself and Krishna cried for him like a wife would do.
